  1. Norris Burroughs was sooo handsome! Burning Up video doesn't do him justice. No wonder he was M's first beau in NY. She told him he looked like Brando:

  5. Review from a friend: As a longtime Madonna fan, I’m very protective of the Queen of Pop. I’ve had many battles with trolls that throw shade at her. When I first heard about this new documentary, I wasn’t sure if I should even watch it because who knows how Madonna really feels about this particular project. With that said, “Madonna and the Breakfast Club” is a very endearing and touching look at Madonna’s early life in New York City and her rise to stardom. It’s a portrayal of a very real young person trying to make something of themself. This film is an extremely positive look at Madonna. It also celebrates the American dream as much as it celebrates Madonna. It would’ve been nice to hear actual clips from songs like “Burning Up”, “Holiday”, “Lucky Star”,”Borderline”, and “Like a Virgin”, but you do hear a clip of “Everybody” and several early demos. You also see a whole lot of pics of Madonna you may have never seen before. This is a very good documentary that I hope Madonna likes as much as I think many of her fans will. Only Madonna can give it her seal of approval but as a huge fan, I’m giving it a big thumbs up!

  6. Madonna needs to open a political tour section with Rescue Me. It is very Madonna 2019. Maybe even the tour opener. It sounds modern still as it sounded out of place among the 80's collection. It is power. It is fire. It is life.

  7. I asked Guy Guido, the staff, they are working on it, but they don't know. They need permission from the Girloy Bros to release all these songs... The snippets in the movie are really too short.

  12. Well, I have to admit that it's not that bad as I expected. I mean it is not a great film but same time not that bad film neither. It just little bit boring. you know, at that time Madonna was so ambitious and so alive like a fire and Scarlett O'hara from novel 'Gone with the wind' but they portray her in this film too much calm. too much calm like Melanie wilkes Not a Scarlett O'hara! So it feels like you're middle of bunch of grandfather's tea time chit chat party at retirement apartment. But I have to say that this is not that bad at all. The most enjoyable part is when Madonna visit their Music video shooting set. She did give to them such a sweet moment. I mean People treat like them nobody then this huge mega pop star suddenly visit them and even kiss them. So people suddenly treat them as somebody. Its like one of movie story. you know. Madonna has such a warm and sweet heart . And the scene about her speech of hall of fame, which she mention about them. That is such a lovely scene. They are so proud of it.

  13. Ok, I admit it. Although we already knew 99% of the story, the movie is still GREAT and you should all watch it. The trailer doesn't do it justice as we rushed to criticize almost everything about it (isn't it the same everytime Madonan puts some new music out there?). We also get to hear longer snippets of those homemade recordings. I loved the line "Do you cry when I cry?". Wonderfully put. The only thing that still bothers me is the cheap wig they made Jamie wear... could have been better, isn't it? Anyway, go watch it right now. You won't regret it

  14. Guy Guido did a wonderful job, this is a must see for every fan. They paid great attention to detail, cool interviews and you could sense that everyone involved has the utmost respect for Madonna. The camera loves Jamie Auld (Madonna) and Calvine Knie (Dan) is such a cutie. Wishing this film the best of success!.

  18. The musical style of HC is very innovative as Madonna experiments different kinds of sound. The album blends with great mastery a wide variety of music styles and tastes, such as R&B, dance-pop, disco, hip-pop and trip-hop. Despite all its producers the album is very cohesive and Pharrell serves some of his best productions ever, like Give It To Me: a song/candy with a juicy disco center surrounded by a crunchy hip-pop shell. Overall each candy tastes differently (“Say which flavor you like and I’ll have it for you”) but they all wisely exposed next to each other and the album progression towards the end is great. Songs like Give It To Me, Beat Goes On, She's Not Me, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You or Miles Away are as experimenting and pioneering as any other Madonna classic.

  20. Actually I enjoy the discussion if there is respect for different opinions There is no point to discuss with you if you are so sure that LAP is the best album and whoever disagree with you must be trolling. Obviously, it is mainly a matter of music taste since music like art is kinda subjective. Nevertheless, if LAP got such great critical acclaim then why it did not win any Grammys? Personally, I tend to ignore the critical acclaim and make my own mind about the quality of an album. No to mention that the people who were thinking of Madonna as just a dull dance diva were totally biased. Dance music can have substance too. Take for instance Papa Don't Preach or Miles Away: great songs to dance to but at the same time very serious lyrics and strong message. Madonna proved to have artistic consistency and substance already with the LAV and TB albums. The cover alone of the LAV album is one of the most iconic in history. The title itself "Like A Virgin" next to "Madonna" is a punch in the eyes for all the closed mind Christian people. It sums up Madonna in a nutshell: the religion controversy and her fearless and seductive sex appeal. Finally, that hairstyle and "Boy Toy" look impacted the lifestyle of millions of people across the Earth who tried to emulate Madonna in the '80s (the well-known Madonna wannabe phenomenon) . You may like the LAP cover, but it did not impacted the Earth as much as the LAV album. After all, it's just some jeans and everyone wear jeans...it looks like Madonna was afraid to show her brunette hairs. I think you are reaching. You can obviously recognize the touch of Timberlake and Timbaland's dark beats and on both Cry Me a River and Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You, but the latter is a ballad with a totally different chorus and melody. Meanwhile, Miles Away and Midnight Fantasy only got a remotely similar chorus, but again it's a reach to claim plagiarism cuz the production and overall melody is totally different.

  21. Oh please, LAV is the album that made Madonna the Queen of Pop forever. After that she drastically reinvented both musically and visually with True Blue and by the end of the '80s her legacy and impact was already legendary. Both LAV and True Blue outsold LAP btw

  22. You took the words right out of my mouth - it’s like comparing vogue video to BIM video - and let’s not forget HC has the worst album cover of her entire career too - the only track I like of this album is Devil and the sticky and sweet performance is magical ?

  23. It's hard to explain why I like the Music album. The easy answer would be because of the colours and the cowboy hat. But I have a feeling there's a lot more going on. I think the Music album cover is a validation and a parody of the American West. This idea comes from José I. Prieto-Arranz, who wrote The Semiotics of Performance and Success in Madonna. Thinking of the American West, I think of space. And there's lots of space in the songs on the Music album. Just listen to I Deserve It, with the spacious keyboard, combined with the acoustic guitar. The album cover is shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, who also directed the Don't Tell Me video. The whole western theme was his idea to begin with. Listening to songs like I Deserve It, Don't Tell Me and Gone I do get western vibes. I also like how the western theme totally contradicts songs like Impressive Instant and Runaway Lover, but at the same we have this romantic idea of cowboys as being rebels, which comes back in the song Music ("for the rebel"). And if a cowboy is a rebel, then how rebellious is a cowgirl? All these things make it one of my favourite album covers.

  25. Both albums are very cohesive and got great lyrics but overall HC is more enjoyable to listen to, thanks to his catchy hooks and great beats. LAP opens with the title track, which is just that legendary and timeless and it closes with Act of Contrition, which recalls the title track and all the power of that song. Lap song simply outshines the entire album, with no offence to Express Yourself and Till Death Do Us Part that are still timeless bops. Other songs like Cherish, Dear Jessie and Keep It Together feel very boring in comparison and their beat sounds dated. Love Song feels more like a wasted opportunity than an underrated gem. At least my expectations from two music legends are much higher! The real strength of LAP relies on the beautiful sad lyrics of Promise to try, Spanish Eyes and Oh Father. Great ballads in which she served vocally, although her strongest vocal performance is definitely during the Evita-Rol peak. On the other hand, the lyrics on HC are not that sad, which can be a good thing if you don't wanna be in a sad mood. Songs like Miles Away, She's Not Me, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You and Voices all got very interesting lyrics that show a charismatic attitude and sense of humor. The beat of 4 minutes might sound dated cuz Timbaland already show off with Nelly Furtado, but that song still grabs its own spotlight in the album and gives a different flavor from the Pharell production. Give It To Me it's arguably the best dance track on the album and perfect to lose control on the dancefloor. Overall HC feels like a candy store, with many different candies but all of them very tasty and great for different occasions; while LAP got mainly a sad mood and more songs to skip. Let's compare the albums: 1. Like a Prayer VS Candy Shop 2. Express Yourself VS 4 Minutes 3. Love Song VS Give It 2 Me 4. Till Death Do Us Part VS Heartbeat 5. Promise to Try VS Miles Away 6. Cherish VS She's Not Me 7. Dear Jessie VS Incredible 8. Oh Father VS Beat Goes On 9. Keep It Together VS Dance 2night 10. Spanish Eyes VS Spanish Lesson 11. Act of Contrition VS Devil Wouldn't Recognize You 12 Supernatural VS Voices Lap: 5/12 vs HC: 7/12 winner: HC

  29. Thanks for the topic I just finished listening to the tracks and I was looking for a place to share and confront the early impressions. Orbit certainly took his touch by creating complex sound patterns and a much more electronic vibe to the whole thing. Some songs became more energetic (Sky fits Heaven, Skin, Nothing really matters), instead of the subtle, dreamy and much darker mood these tracks had in the early stages. Her voice consequently had to be adapted to the new sound, with a "louder" and firmer attitude, instead of the whispered, gloomy tone of many of the demos vocals. There certainly is an undeniable change between the pre and post Orbit involvement, at the same time, I agree, the soul of the record was already there. Personally, I like the new dimension these demos are giving to the tracks a lot. It's like discovering the other side of the whole project (the demos often have this straight-to-the-core kind of feeling to me, it's the same for the Erotica tracks). One of the things I miss the most in all her post-Music works is just her expressive whispered voice wich such a delicate, sensual and intriguing vibe was able to lend to songs like Inside of me, Secret garden, Bedtime Story, Swim, I want you. I'm madly happy at the moment actually. The tracks I like the most are Noting really matters, whose arrangement underlines the beauty of the armony and the solidity of the whole composition more than the final production imo, Flirtation Dance, sensual and haunting, Be careful, wich I'd say is better than the released version, Has To Be 1, wich is so dark and intense, inspiring complete different emotions, and You'll Stay, intense and very sophisticated. The two Babyface tracks are both good. I'm more interested in I'll be gone, but just for a matter of personal genre preference, Never love a stranger is a gorgeous track in her style. So, after 4 years without a single new note, all at once we're sharing this, just a month or so before the announcement of the beginning of the new era! And I have to say, every time it's amazing rediscovering the sound of her voice! Thanks again for the sharing, whoever you are
