  1. This week our hosts Brittany Spanos and Rob Sheffield look at an Eighties dance-floor classic, from one of the all-time biggest pop legends: Madonna’s “Into The Groove.” It wasn’t Madonna’s first single (that was “Everybody”) or her first hit (that would be “Holiday”), but “Into The Groove” is the one that instantly evokes Madonna in her raw, gritty early days. It’s a cheap, fast, in-your-face disco anthem that hits as hard as punk rock, from the hungry young Madonna, aiming to sum up the whole history of dance music in one song. “Into The Groove” is still the song at the heart of her lifelong bond with the club scene and the dance community. It’s the one that where she sings right into your ear: “You can dance, for inspiration.” For this episode Brittany and Rob are joined by one of the most brilliant music writers around, Suzy Exposito, a longtime journalist for Rolling Stone and the L.A. Times. They break down the song’s impact on club culture, including the goth world (the dancing boy in the music video became an iconic goth figure in himself!). They’ll also seek to answer the questions of why we’re all so obsessed with this song? Why does it loom so large over Madonna’s other hits? Why is it the gateway drug that hooks so many generations of Madonna fans? Take a listen to find out! [Hidden Content]

  2. I remember the wait for the Reinvention Tour in Paris 20 years ago, everyone sitten on the grass in front of the arena, it was like Woodstock

  3. Yes, I prefer the standing option. The waiting could be cold and uncomfortable but you create lasting friendships and memories. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

  4. Omg! That little dog is so cute sleeping with Madonna’s peasants!

  6. From Madonnaonline One of the most appreciated and collectible items by Madonna fans is the program from each of her tours. Also known as Tour Book, they are full of photos from the featured era, including never-before-seen photo shoots made exclusively for these items, such as those seen on the Re-Invention Tour, Sticky & Sweet Tour and Rebel Heart Tour programs. As incredible as it may seem, The Celebration Tour was without its Tour Book. But fans' prayers were answered and MOL is pleased to inform you first-hand: with the tour about to be completed, the book will finally be released! A record of photos and facts about Madonna's career over her 40 years and it promises to be quite filling! Will it already be on sale at the final show of the tour here in Rio? Make your bets!

  7. I have waited for her on 3 tours, for now, S&S, Rebel Heart and now on The Celebration tour. Each time I make new friends, have awesome memories and lots of fun. Yes, it's challenging, but it's worth every second of cold (or hot) weather. But I would only do it for M.

  11. My bet is that Madonna Online are the producers of this Tour Book… just a thought

  12. I don’t see the point in making a tour book NOW that the tour is over, but since they were right about M in Brazil, let’s wait and see…

  17. Ran into Monte after the show. He was leaving the venue when we were. He actually has a show tonight at House of Blues. He said that’s why he was in Houston. It was great to see him.

  19. So hard. Tie! Vogue or Express Yourself?

  20. Awesome to hear your experiences. I’ve only seen Madonna in the USA and Canada. And it’s all assigned seating so there are no lines.

  21. I need a high speed electric wheelchair and beat all the people to the front! Plus I get to sit down while waiting for the show and when I starts I can fold it up and start dancing.
    2 points
  22. Because it sucks to be sit at a Madonna concert Seriously I never slept outside for a concert. I usually come at 10 am and I'm at the first or second row.
    2 points
  23. I understand your confusion and humor, but for us, European fans, we don't have a choice. If we want to be close to the front row, we must do this.

  24. if i need to sleep in a fucking plastic tent in the middle of nothing surrounded by homless in a very low class neighborhood, with low class Madonna fans....... eating trash food....... using pu....... pub....... i'm near to vomit........ public toilet......... i feel dirty only typing this horrible words...... well if i need to go through all this shit for a M concert i pretend a private one....... i pretend the bitch sing only for me...... yes...... me...... and nobody else.........the others can always climb onto the roof of the stadium and look the concert from here......

  25. Exactly. The venues outside of the UK and the USA have never heard of “seats”. It’s only standing and running to the front. So the gays have to resort to this type of heterosexual activity.

  26. OH MY GODDDDDDD You sleep in a tent in the middle of the winter?! wow......... crazy........ never see a gay sleep in a tent....... its like animal documentaries..... wow.......... crazy......

  28. Great show but the sound mix where I was sitting left a LOT to be desired... all I could hear was extremely loud pounding bass the entire night and the vocal mix was pretty much all but buried except on the songs without heavy bass.

  29. No, the fans buy it. And most throw it away after the show, because you can't take it on the plane with you (or it's just not worth to pay for the extra luggage). We go to nearby toilets, sometimes in cafés. I'm not sure about the masturbation part, I haven't, it was too cold. We buy food from nearby shops.

  30. I need a legacy code too! Please DM me second if they have a registration. I would be forever grateful, as I never had the chance to see M live in concert before and would love to be the most close to the stage as possible. I was a kid back in 2008 and in 2012 I was still at school in my early teen years, and my parents always said it was a waste of money because I could watch the dvd over and over how many times I wanted, for a very cheaper price, instead of throwing a whole lotta money on the garbage just to see her on stage for 2 hours and never have this moment again. Now that I am grown everything's changed, I can afford my trip to Rio and will finally see my Queen live for the very first time, so if someone can help me I would be really really grateful.

  31. WELL On Celebration I went off to the bathroom many times. You just get someone to hold your spot. Once you’re in the venue though it’s not that easy.

  32. BuggedOut shared it recently with us! Maybe in this thread I think some already have out the link

  33. Another thought is adding it the week of the anniversary it went #1. So many possibilities. Of course, I'm not holding my breath for it, and personally there are other songs of hers with actual remixes I would like to see go up before Live To Tell being we really don't have anything more than a edit and instrumental to add.

  35. True - but perhaps it’s to cash in at the Brazil concert - 2 million people - lots of opportunities to sell stuff.

  36. When I was a kid and got my hands on the Like A Virgin Album cassette and heard Love Don’t Live Here Anymore, I knew the b!tch can REALLY sing. Although I was in love with her before already.

  41. Very early on she had Crazy for You and Papa Don't Preach to prove she was a great studio singer. No wonder she was nominated at the Grammys for both. She got to be a technically better singer in the 90s (You'll See, Ray of Light, Evita OST...) but I still think Papa Don't Preach is one of her finnest (and she had a cold!).

  42. Hey you Gworlls I tried last night and today to order some more merch from madonna.com, each time I get this message: "Shipping not available Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Review your address to ensure it's correct and try again, or select a different address." Is anyone else having this problem?

  43. Yes, me too and most TRULY members as well.

  44. The Q-Sound Mix is actually my favorite version of Live to Tell. I like that the intro is slightly shorter, for my taste the album version drags a bit too much. I don't mind the echoey vocals at all either.

  45. I find it so funny that they chose this song as one of her best songs. I love it, but it's a bit vapid!

  46. I only discovered her during Music era when I was 12-13yo and started to take music much more seriously (the rest is history), so then I went backwards in my personal Madonna journey and very soon realized she is much better singer that media used to say... Ray of Light, Evita, Something to Remember, oh man, was I surprised by her singing abilities

  47. And this performance ofcourse ( and many more) The End...

  48. Guys, this is a TikTok trendy, today the young people especially the teenagers are listening to this type of trashy music so don't get surprised if Madonna released this weird remix, remember what Madonna said back in 2004? ? Reinvent Yourself or Die ?
