  1. This week our hosts Brittany Spanos and Rob Sheffield look at an Eighties dance-floor classic, from one of the all-time biggest pop legends: Madonna’s “Into The Groove.” It wasn’t Madonna’s first single (that was “Everybody”) or her first hit (that would be “Holiday”), but “Into The Groove” is the one that instantly evokes Madonna in her raw, gritty early days. It’s a cheap, fast, in-your-face disco anthem that hits as hard as punk rock, from the hungry young Madonna, aiming to sum up the whole history of dance music in one song. “Into The Groove” is still the song at the heart of her lifelong bond with the club scene and the dance community. It’s the one that where she sings right into your ear: “You can dance, for inspiration.” For this episode Brittany and Rob are joined by one of the most brilliant music writers around, Suzy Exposito, a longtime journalist for Rolling Stone and the L.A. Times. They break down the song’s impact on club culture, including the goth world (the dancing boy in the music video became an iconic goth figure in himself!). They’ll also seek to answer the questions of why we’re all so obsessed with this song? Why does it loom so large over Madonna’s other hits? Why is it the gateway drug that hooks so many generations of Madonna fans? Take a listen to find out! [Hidden Content]

  5. My bet is that Madonna Online are the producers of this Tour Book… just a thought

  6. From Madonnaonline One of the most appreciated and collectible items by Madonna fans is the program from each of her tours. Also known as Tour Book, they are full of photos from the featured era, including never-before-seen photo shoots made exclusively for these items, such as those seen on the Re-Invention Tour, Sticky & Sweet Tour and Rebel Heart Tour programs. As incredible as it may seem, The Celebration Tour was without its Tour Book. But fans' prayers were answered and MOL is pleased to inform you first-hand: with the tour about to be completed, the book will finally be released! A record of photos and facts about Madonna's career over her 40 years and it promises to be quite filling! Will it already be on sale at the final show of the tour here in Rio? Make your bets!

  8. Exactly. The venues outside of the UK and the USA have never heard of “seats”. It’s only standing and running to the front. So the gays have to resort to this type of heterosexual activity.

  11. No, the fans buy it. And most throw it away after the show, because you can't take it on the plane with you (or it's just not worth to pay for the extra luggage). We go to nearby toilets, sometimes in cafés. I'm not sure about the masturbation part, I haven't, it was too cold. We buy food from nearby shops.

  12. I need a legacy code too! Please DM me second if they have a registration. I would be forever grateful, as I never had the chance to see M live in concert before and would love to be the most close to the stage as possible. I was a kid back in 2008 and in 2012 I was still at school in my early teen years, and my parents always said it was a waste of money because I could watch the dvd over and over how many times I wanted, for a very cheaper price, instead of throwing a whole lotta money on the garbage just to see her on stage for 2 hours and never have this moment again. Now that I am grown everything's changed, I can afford my trip to Rio and will finally see my Queen live for the very first time, so if someone can help me I would be really really grateful.

  13. WELL On Celebration I went off to the bathroom many times. You just get someone to hold your spot. Once you’re in the venue though it’s not that easy.

  14. When I was a kid and got my hands on the Like A Virgin Album cassette and heard Love Don’t Live Here Anymore, I knew the b!tch can REALLY sing. Although I was in love with her before already.

  16. Very early on she had Crazy for You and Papa Don't Preach to prove she was a great studio singer. No wonder she was nominated at the Grammys for both. She got to be a technically better singer in the 90s (You'll See, Ray of Light, Evita OST...) but I still think Papa Don't Preach is one of her finnest (and she had a cold!).

  23. I love them but I can totally understand that more than some other choices, the songs are more experimental and vary in genre

  24. During the process of choosing an artist who will be the object of my admiration, there are many aspects that I take into consideration, such as the quality of their musical works, their versatility in different musical genres, their personality, that they have good physical appearance and in especially their voice. That is why I am proud of the quality of the artists I admire, very few indeed, such as Christina Aguilera, Shakira and in this case Madonna whose album, Ray of LIght, is the perfect album to contradict any incredulous who doubts the quality of her voice. That is why it saddens me that with the passage of time, Madonna has neglected this very important aspect in later albums and even more so with the use of autotune. But seeing her sing live on this tour has reactivated my hopes of once again enjoying that wonderful voice that captivated me so much to the point of becoming a fan of her back in 1999. Because as they say, dreaming costs nothing.

  29. I don’t see the point in making a tour book NOW that the tour is over, but since they were right about M in Brazil, let’s wait and see…

  30. Even though I joke about you spoiling the surprises and going against Madonna’s wishes, I still think she removes releases sometimes when she finds out that it’s being leaked. Don’t get me wrong, I love your info leaks on streaming releases, but I’m just saying that Madonna will usually beat the fans in this game when she’s willing to throw punches at us.

  31. I hope the live stream can be captured in the highest Q possible!!!.

  32. I think people will camp at least a week before. We wait for her from the night before even in Europe in winter.

  33. Choppy? It only has one edit in the middle and it’s perfectly done. The beginning starts with the melody, and the end is a simple early fade. It’s one of her best edits for radio, without anything important left out. And personally I prefer the 7’’ version over the album version. The TIC version sounds like the vocals were recorded in the bathroom of a church.

  36. Which one is this? Is it the first time in a Madonna tour?
    1 point
  37. That's nice but in 2024 people do streaming. While physical media has seen resurgence, it's more of a collectable item rather than a functioning one. I mean do you think Taylor Swift fans are seriously asking their parents to get them CD players? You certainly can dislike streaming but shows you really aren't with the times if you think that's not how people consume music nowadays. That's also probably why she will never have a hit again because her fans are very antiquated at this point.

  38. I love her raw vocals from the first album! Still my favorite vocals.

  39. Madonna is a great studio vocalist, she can really adjust her vocals and create a great atmosphere for the song with her vocals alone.

  40. Bob Dylan sings horribly and he was there. When he sings he sounds as if his testicles were being pressed. Lou Reed was a terrible singer too, and what about the New Order singer? However, Madonna is always attacked for her singing. True, she doesn't have a wide vocal range, but neither do have it Minogue or Spears, whose voices are irritating, mediocre and unbearable to listen to to me; what's more, what they lack is expressiveness and emotion, which Madonna has in spades. Or at least had, prior to her ruining vocal lessons, which took away all the fun in her voice. "More" (From Dick Tracy) is a perfect showcase for her singing talent. It's a very difficult song to sing.

  41. What a stupid thread... She showed many times she can sing. One of the answers is " Crazy for you " , wich kicked " we are the world " from the nr 1 spot on the charts.... Revenge 💅

  42. "Like a Virgin" is not that great of a song. Why must her 80's pop era be commonly associated with such a subpar song? "Cherish" is an absolute banger and it's criminal how little attention it gets.

  44. Guys, this is a TikTok trendy, today the young people especially the teenagers are listening to this type of trashy music so don't get surprised if Madonna released this weird remix, remember what Madonna said back in 2004? ? Reinvent Yourself or Die ?

  45. Sorry but the bridge in Who's that Girl is life... and the song went number one. It belonged on IC. She just had so many hits by then. It could have easily been two cds.

  46. I, on the other hand, couldn't care less for Who's That Girl... hahahahaha. I've always liked Causing a Commotion better.
