I don't see a thread for the election and I feel so helpless and I had a strong feeling but this is the age of not being able to reason with people.

Anyway this is from JK Rowling's twitter. She is responding to someone telling her to basically not give the trolls any attention. This is her response:

"Ramon, I know you mean well, but tonight of all nights I'm going to say it. Ignoring spite, and hate, and bullying, doesn't work."

If you think the day intolerance was validated for decades to come is not a sad day, then you're in the wrong forum and fandom.

I was so unnerved Monday through Thursday and on Tuesday night when a little after the beginning results came in I felt real panic for my country. I can't believe that some can't see how bad this is for the United States.

I truly believe because I have heard of and heard people say they will never have a woman for President. The closer to any sort of power a woman gets the bigger the witch hunt. I don't why that's so in the United States.

It's bad for the whole world tbh. The far-right will keep rising in more and more territories. Maybe the bubble of complacency bursting will finally wake people up? but I already see people downplaying the implications of this, "maybe Trump won't be so bad".... stupidity is humanity's biggest enemy...

Now u see why M would tell ignorant little girls to stay off her instagram when they suggest she stay out of politics. It makes no sense. Politics is in her (M)DNA.

I think the point of ridiculing and insulting people for their ignorance is over. It clearly isn't working and it gives ignorant people more ammo to be hateful. Politics is not about yelling into an echo chamber. I think that's the biggest lesson to take away from all of this.

it's a sad day.

It was. When it became clear that Trump was gonna win, I started crying. I'm still numbed & disturbed by what had happened. For those who think I'm being overly dramatic, well, you're probably white, straight or just someone who has never known what it's like to live in fear because you're different, because you're gay and because you have different skin color. You've probably never been bullied, verbally abused, assaulted because you're gay. I have. You've probably never been told that you don't belong in this country & you need to get the fuck out & go back to where you belong. I have. If you have never experienced that, you will never know & understand what it's like to grow up in America living in fear because you're different.

I felt like all the progress & equality that so many have fought & even sacrificed their lives for have been wiped out in that moment. For what I see in Trump are all the bullies I'd encountered. For those consumed with hatred for Hillary & those who support Trump & those who are ok with this, you have no idea what's coming. Things are going to take a nasty turn for women, the LGBT community,  the handicapped, people of different color, the Muslims ...

As a gay man, an Asian & an immigrant, I'm not ok with this for Trump's all about making America straight & white.

What I'm feeling now is like I've just woken up & I ended back in 1936.

I understand what you mean. And I'm not trying to beat this dead dog with a stick. I was just pointing out, that even though you said it in a much nicer tone, you basically said the same thing to this guy because he didn't share the same belief.

"Maybe this isn't the place for you." is just a pleasant way of saying "i wish ignorant people would stay away".

P.S. i still love u   / hope I'm not coming off like a dick.

Hillary Clinton’s Popular Vote Victory Keeps Growing

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/hillary-clinton-popular-vote-victory_us_5827a2c5e4b02d21bbc91bbc

Hillary Clinton not only won the popular vote in Tuesday’s election. It is now clear that she won it by a margin larger than two candidates who went on to win the presidency.

David Leonhardt, a columnist for The New York Times, noted on Friday that with a 1.7-percentage-point popular vote lead over Donald Trump,Clinton will have a larger margin of victory than Richard Nixon had over Hubert Humphrey in 1968 or John F. Kennedy had over Nixon in 1960. (Her edge is also larger than Al Gore’s popular vote victory over George W. Bush in 2000, though he too was stymied by an electoral college loss.)

In raw numbers, that amounts to an edge of roughly 1.8 million votes as of Saturday.

Votes are still being counted, however, with the outstanding ballots overwhelmingly concentrated in Democratic bastions like California, Washington state and New York.

The Times’ Nate Cohn estimated on Saturday that there were a total of 7 million votes left to be counted nationwide. As of Thursday, more than 4 million votes had yet to be counted in California alone.

That means that Clinton’s lead will almost certainly grow in the coming days, as it has since election night.

A larger popular vote lead will not change the electoral college math and thus the election’s fundamental outcome.

But it comes as welcome news for progressives eager to cast aspersions on President-elect Trump’s political mandate ― and gives fodder to a nascent campaign to abolish the electoral college, which has defied the will of the voters twice in the past two decades.
