  1. Sending love and light and a little prayer to Madonna. Regardless of your positions on this era, it should be understood that we all want the best for our gal.

  2. Boy, this'll be long-winded. Like many fellow New Yorkers, I attend a lot of theater. Broadway, Off-Broadway, Opera, Ballet, etc. Two of my favorite performing arts campuses are Lincoln Center and, well, BAM. When I first heard Madame X, I thought... this isn't a pop album. My friends kept asking how I ranked it, where I would put it alongside her other work. I started to think of it as a musical and it started to make sense. Now, is it Sondheim? No, but it exists on a very different plane -- one that is Theatrical with a capital T. But a quiet, monochromatic kind of theatricality with flashes of color. So, when I heard she was doing a theater tour, I thought - of course. It's intimate, she'll probably augment the mini-documentary in theme and performance when translating to the stage. It'll be very informal. And since it was starting at BAM -- not to be stereotypical of the space -- I knew it would err on the side of minimalism. That's just the flavor there. The night I attended turned out to be the first performance. My husband and I assumed she wouldn't pull her tardy antics since BAM is an entirely union house. Everyone would be making double time should the show run late. Well, that assumption went out the window! But when the show began, save for the two opening numbers (and that outfit eesh), it was everything I had hoped it would be. I didn't expect arena, but I didn't expect the level of movement and the constant ascending and descending those stairs. It made for a great stage picture but I thought - gee, that must be hell. Something about the last tour made me think that she was going to really ease up on movement. Some of the best part of the evenings to me were the Fado section, her chats with the crowd, Frozen. I could have spent 15 more minutes with the Batuka ladies circle. That section was so authentic. Yes she was moving there, but it seemed to come from a very honest, rather than strenuous place (I guess strenuous honesty can be a thing, too). This has a point. I swear. Now, do I think the tickets were outrageously priced? Absolutely. Did I think the late starts are beyond beyond? Absolutely. Do I think the tour schedule is bonkers? Absolutely. But the piece itself - as a piece of theater - it's something I never thought I'd see her do. Madonna alone on stage being Madonna (not Tears of a Clown, thank you very much). And I find it heartbreaking that there was such misguidance and bullshit that have mucked it all up. We had a marvelous time that night, there were rapturous moments. I never went in expecting anything but what the space informed -- or what the title and artwork advertised. Rescue Me, Rain, etc.? She'll sing those again the day Trump is impeached. Don't hold your breath. But I was NOT expecting some of the beautiful stage pictures she gave us. And moments where she dropped the pitch correction and autotuning and gave us her. Unfiltered. I hope she feels better -- but I'm hardly surprised. The schedule is hell! She goes on tour once every four years, no wonder she's spent. But there's something else that has felt off about it. I feel as though she wants to sit with the Batuka ladies (I know, I can't remember their names) and the Fado people, and jam. And I am totally down with that. Madame X fails for me when it tries to be "arena" sized. But when she smiled, it felt sooo right. Ok, maybe that didn't have a point. Whatever, just wanted to chime in.

  4. When I attended the NY show on 9/22 by myself, I did expect her to be late...So, on 9/24 when I saw it with a friend who had also traveled halfway across the country (as I also did) why she goes on so late, as a first-time M concertgoer, he was a little confused with my non-answer... I just said "she always goes on late." When I said the late starts were getting old to a group of other fans we were talking to in the lobby, one of them started making excuses for her, like: "she's the queen! she can do what she wants!" followed by a bitchy "well, any FAN knows by now it'll be a late night." Etc. So after explaining that that show was my 22nd Madonna concert I've attended since Blond Ambition, he just started making more shitty comments and excuses for, as he kept reiterating, "the Queen." I'm 43yrs old, and I've been a fan since 1983 when I was 7yrs old. Obviously I'm not mad at her, because it's just part of the deal at this point for me, but a fan for any length of time has the right to be irritated or angry at this lack of regard for their time; whether they travel across town, across the country, or across an ocean. I wouldn't question anyone's request for a refund if they aren't willing to wait it out till she decides to start her show. MadameX theatre is very much like a Madonna concert in that respect, however she likes to define this show.

  5. I was at the show last night, she was moving with so much grace, strength and precision that if she was in pain; one could NEVER tell. That's our girl, our QUEEN. I also agree with those who said the show may seem less strenuous but in reality; there are a LOT of marks to hit and she moves around the entire stage more so than RHT. I pray she get well soon so we could bid her a proper goodbye from NYC this weekend.

  6. As we all know by now that the Madame X October 7th show has been delayed on a very short notice due to Madonna's knee injury. Nothing else is officially confirmed yet beyond last night being delayed, but let's take time to wish Madonna a speedy recovery. Write her messages on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter under the hashtag #SpeedyRecoveryMadonna and tag her and Guy Oseary (@GuyOseary) in your posts and stories. Let's lift her spirit up with our words at least. She's a hard-working woman, a legendary performer, a superhero and like a Lara Croft of the music industry, yes but she's a human being too and she gets tired, hurt, disappointed, injured and heartbroken like all of us do, perhaps even more given the stress of always being under the magnifying glass of the world. Feel free to tag other users as well so we can all spread the word. I'm @RinoTheBouncer on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and Facebook so feel free to mention me and let's keep the message going.

  7. When one spends more time posting negativity or passive aggressive trolling about an artist 24/7, it's possibly time to find a healthier hobby, one that brings you actual joy. There are plenty of artists in whom I've lost interest, and I just don't follow or post about them on their forums any more. Strange use of one's time. The way some are posting, you'd think you're getting a personal cut of Madonna's tour income.

  9. I read an interesting comment once that apparently when you're wearing an eyepatch, you lose almost all of your depth perception. It's quite the act of bravery that she tackles those stairs night after night.

  12. I feel sad for all the fans who received the bad news on such short notice! Wasn't it like 1-2 hours before 8:30 yesterday? Awful I blame Live Nation and her management and most importantly herself for saying yes to such ridiculous itinerary. 3 shows in a row? When was the last time Madonna did that? 30 years ago when she was younger? She wasn't physically able to make it at 32... what made them feel she would resist the same rhythm at 61? When we got the announcement of this tour we already knew she would play a handful of shows on major cities across the US and Europe. Then we realised the tickets were expensive af and, undoutbedly, many people thought it twice before purchasing the tickets. Of course most of us did because we know she's so worth it when it comes to live concerts. However, Oseary and company saw that fans would pay anything to see Madonna front row, hence those ridiculous VIP packages and one night at a supposedly 5 stars hotel... Oh and don't forget the carrots! THEY GOT GREEDY. They started filling all the free days after seeing that some theatres were soon to become sold out... Again, how many theatres did? Cause I doubt the whole tour was sold out immediately. I'd say it still hasn't, except for a few dates in Paris and Lisbon. I feel sorry for Madonna's injury and I appreciate every day that she's still making great music and has the energy to put on such big shows. But I cannot defend their lack of common sense anymore. Sure, they are testing the waters with this new format, things might fuck up sometimes... but after decades in the business, she should know better. More than anyone before saying yes to everything Oseary and company offer her.

  13. However it happened, it can't be fun to use those stairs when one's knee is out of commission.

  14. the stairs should have got the chop after eurovision ...that said i am not certain she injured herself on the stairs i dont think its something to do with joints i think she has banged her knee on something or fell...she seems to be obsessed with stairs and when i seen all the stairs on a clip from the tour moving with her on them i thought oh no what if she fell down them or tripped and fell off them and also the way she lands from her splitz in the circle during human nature ..this could be possibly where she has hurt herself :( shes just trying to put on a great show in a small theatre but she needs to limit herself and slow down and limit these dates ..there are too many

  15. Anyone who's read even a few of my posts knows that I don't endlessly praise or ignore reality, and I even disliked most of the Madame X album itself. I didn't go on 24/7 about it for months though. I suggest you'll be a lot happier if you focus on the things you enjoy about her, if there are any, and ignore the rest. Life's too short to spend being miserable. The tour is my favorite part of any Madonna era. Is any of it perfect? No, but she's still amazing as a live performer IMO. I disliked a lot of MDNA also, but I loved the tour. This isn't a very commercial album or era, it's very polarizing, but most of the tour's success is from repeat fan purchases once they've actually seen one show. If she wanted to appeal to a broader audience, she knows how to do that, but she doesn't care about that so why should we? Madonna's hardly going to the poorhouse on the perceived lack of success of one musical era.

  16. i dont care less if its not sold out totally and there are available seats ......youre obsessed with them lol im not obsessed with madonnas stats ..she is the biggest selling female artist ever ..i think she still remains the highest grossing solo touring artist ever ..i will be ok with these FACTS AND FIGURES ...

  17. Some of you get really defensive since. Madonna is a product, a brand. We are discussing a brand. if you don’t like discussion on the workings of said brand, don’t join a forum. oh and believe me, me and digital freak aren’t the same person. Separate sides of the Atlantic I’m afraid. nice guy, (guy?), intelligent, strong minded. Quite respect the chap for his persistence in speaking about what he believes, but we aren’t the same person. so yeah, theory dead. I was a member of Tribe since 2007 but requested my account disabling in July of this year due to growing tired of sycophants, and other members growing tired of my opinions, lmao.

  18. Well considering she's cancelled show after show in New York City, it seems pretty fair to discuss it here.

  19. Certainly some tickets will sell, but there's no way on God's green earth will they sell bucketloads, not without massive reductions... I mean, sense would surely be to cancel a few shows and move concert-goers into the empty seats on other shows? It's quite telling just how much people (and not just the GP) are willing to pay looking at how the cheap seats have all gone.

  20. Well this health issue could be a reason for her lateness each night...

  21. Madonna has been wearing tape on her knee/calf since rehearsals, if I'm not mistaken. Tape is typically used to avoid damage, which leads me to think that there was already something that was a potential issue and it appears that she's going too hard every night and it finally started giving her real problems. I think it's very sad for both Madonna and her fans because M doesn't like to let her fans down and the limited cities for this tour is making almost everyone travel and in many cases very long distances. I've seen a lot of pictures of the Madonna set being taken down and moved, which I find odd if she truly plans to resume her time in NY on 10/10 - it doesn't make a lot of sense to take down the set if she's supposed to resume in 2 days time. I have tickets for the 16th in Chicago, and I'm getting very nervous about this. The only other date I would be able to attend would be the 17th as I must leave Chicago on the morning of the 18th. I think Madonna is pushing herself entirely too hard. For RHT she usually had 1 or 2 days between dates, but with MX she's going full throttle for days on end and those stairs are probably killing her knee. I think these mini residencies of upwards and beyond 2 weeks in some cities with little rest periods built in was a mistake because she's not giving her body any rest. Yes, Madonna is in amazing shape for 61, but she's still 61. While she's never had age be an issue it's like she's starting to have the issues most people have in their 40s and we all know that the knees start to give us trouble by then if we've been active, and boy(toy) has she been active! My best guess is that M has either over stretched her meniscus or she could have a mild case of tendinitis or bursitis. Either way, she may have to seriously look at her dates for Los Angeles and Miami as those are the only other cities in the US that are going to be strenuous. London and especially Paris may also prove problematic. I'm sure Madonna is worried sick about this.

  22. The whole situation is very very sad. First of all, for M and her health. Let's pray it's not that bad... Then for all the fans who are missing shows. If the last NY shows are cancelled they better say it now...

  23. Let's all hope she'll get better soon!!!!.

  24. Yea 3 days is not long at all - hopefully the injury is only minor in nature and not ligament related - as that can take months to recover from!

  25. I felt the same way earlier today... I burst into tears reading on social media about Madonna and a "knee issue." Many of us fans have gotten so used to the athletic, almost super human Madonna that when I hear rare news like this, I get so overwhelmed and I cry. Madonna is getting older by the day, and like any human being, wear and tear starts showing up. Bone density is not the same as age comes and muscle atrophy occurs. I hope Madonna will be okay! Praying so hard! Of course it's frustrating for those who had tickets for tonight and traveled for her... BUT a genuine Madonna fan will give her a break in a heartbeat upon hearing news like this and not even complain or be mad. Madonna is HUMAN. She needs rest. I'm so worried it may be aggravated or becomes a serious issue, but let's hope not and let's pray she recovers cause she works so hard! The most hardworking woman in music! Madonna is human and needs rest for as long as she needs, but she is strong, resilient, and not a quitter! Long live Madame X!

  26. All my respect in this moment, she gave us all, always in these 37 years. I just hope she's going to overcome it succesfully and not taking this knee problem with her during the whole tour And I really pray for them to record one of the next shows as soon as it's possible. We need to have a trace of this gorgeous and intimate experience!

  27. It will be filmed in Lisbon again. The director will sue her for not fulfilling the contract and everything will be kept in store so we've got something extra to bitch about for years to come. The raw unedited footage with questioanable audio will leak in 2029 in .avi.

  28. I'm not a 90 years old that has to be in bed by 8pm so it's not a freaking tragedy if I'm staying out late for ONE night to enjoy a Madonna show, I treat this like a real huge party, as it's not every day that I afford to see her. I know there is a possibility she will be late and so I plan accordingly.

  29. So I finally saw the Madame X show last night. As titled, the show shares the journey and experiences of Madame X as well as the current state of the world we live in. Before I comment further on the show, I must say I absolutely love the pre show live music by the 4 member band, which performed several Madonna tracks - Secret, DTM, WTG, LAV. They sound brilliant. Seeing the show live - which is visually stunning - I can understand the songs selected for the setlist. Note: Don’t worry. I’m not gonna go through each performance in the setlist. She started the show literally with a bang - God Control. Then she performed Dark Ballet which ended with her being put into a round box space. It then seamlessly flowed in to Human Nature with her executing gorgeous choreography ala the Human Nature video. Those who thought her previous tours were too political might find offense in the first section alone which she throws in your face strong poignant political commentary. No one should take away our human rights and our right to live. We will not be silenced. We will speak and fight for our rights. Her PDP performance shows her stand against those trying to overthrow Roe Vs Wade and her fight for equal rights for women. She ended the section fittingly with American Life - “nothing is what it seems”. Side note: that AL bass is LIFE. The second section is exactly as she introduced to us - her life and new music inspiration and appreciation in Lisbon. Beginning with Fado music. This section is a massive hit if you love the Mx album and a sore miss if you’re not a fan of the album. That said, I find this section the most broadway-esque if that makes sense. The last section for me is about being freedom fighters craving for a brighter future despite obstacles and hardened people who want to take away our democracy. And she ended the show fading out with “We Will Rise” as she disappeared into the main exit of the theater behind the audience with her performers. To sum up, this is a dream show for me in that it is an intimate, highly choreographed yet spontaneous, visually stunning and artistic theatrical performance. Is it perfect? No. But its imperfections make it perfect for me if that makes any sense. Bitches, I absolutely love the show!

  30. There are loads of people that have waited days in the cold to see her. Or travelled across continents. Or spent thousands on her. I don’t know what ticket you had but some people would probably question your mentality for paying the price you did for a ticket. Or for discussing her on forums day in day out. Its really a personal choice what you think she’s worth or how much time/money you want to dedicate. I do find it strange that people defend her so blindly, it is hard to defend these late starts as she really has no excuse. I doubt they truly mean what they’re saying and are just blinded by their fandom. As I’ve said I’m not personally effected by it but I do empathize with casual fans especially because if I went to see some other show and it started that late I’d be very irritated and impatient. I am just glad this show isn’t general admission because that would be tedious not being able to leave your spot.

What would really help the tour now in the UK is ONE major UK performance. Xmas season is coming up, performances are available everywhere.

  33. This is the New York City thread, not the speculation about consolidation of future tour dates thread, last time I checked.

  34. Sure, because it makes so much sense to cancel the guaranteed sold out NYC shows (the most expensive tickets and city on the entire tour) and "move them" to Chicago nearly 3 weeks later. The logic or lack of it is mind-boggling. The injury is hardly undisclosed. She's said it on multiple Instagram posts since tour rehearsals. She said on opening night that she had an injury. She said at one subsequent NYC show in the first 2 weeks that she didn't take enough ibuprofen that night. Her knee is obviously more and more heavily taped throughout each show. But sure, she's making stuff up because Madame X likes to refund money for no reason that is already paid for and guaranteed.

  36. Sending warm thoughts and positive healing energy to our strong, resilient, and super human but human trooper Queen, Madame X! Rest up mama... we don't care how long you need to but as long as you recover, rest, and stay healthy! That's the most important thing for us fans! Get well soon Madonna!

  37. Really feeling for her, must be terrible to have to cancel, especially at this short notice. Just hoping it doesn’t become a recurring problem for her throughout the whole tour, the unpredictability of your show going ahead or not will drive me insane! Especially as it’s now such a long tour. Maybe the dates should have all been more spread out (one night on, one night off)

  38. This isn't true either. She's as active physically and more so than MDNA and RHT, it's just less aerobics, but there are tons and tons of stairs, which are really harsh on the knees. She doesn't sit all that much except for the changing/speeches and a little bit of the fado section. She's always moving.
