    Madame X Tour DVD

"cheap" Judging by what leaked in January 2010, you can say the Lisbon show has bad audio mixing, poor directing, boring shots here and there BUT saying the show was 'cheap'... dude, Madonna and 'cheap' could never be in the same sentence

  2. I wanna start off by acknowledging that evolution and change is part of the human psyche, we all change in this world. The question for me is changing towards which direction? MadameX I believe is the best direction Madonna could follow. A truly great, greatly under estimated album, career and personal choice for Madonna. She's more awake, more driven, more outspoken, calm, honest, fearless and maybe content (?!) than she ever was. On a personal level , through ups and downs, Madonna built a loving family, an insane career and money and she evolved as a human- not only her approach and art got more multi layered but she has achieved the power in this world to drive people - a leader from many aspects. MadameX is the manifestation of real thoughts, human thoughts unfiltered and raw. (If Ray of Light was a stage where she started growing as a person, questioning things, finding a path to follow MadameX is running down that road with a clear destination) Lyrically ? I LOVE it ! All of it. Let me add some personal highlights here - I went back to my 17th year, allowed myself to be naive, to be someone I've never been. - Cause your world's such a shame, cause your world's in so much pain. They are so naive They think we are not aware of their crimes. We know, but we are just not ready to act The storm isn't in the air, it's inside of us - Everybody knows they don’t have a chance to get a decent job, to have a normal life. When they talk reforms, it makes me laugh, they pretend to help, it makes me laugh - Not everyone is coming to the future, not everyone is learning from the past - Get that old man, put him in a jail where he can't stop us, where he can't hurt us - And I'll be a woman, if she's raped and her heart is breaking. Wild is the world and lonely is the path. - I'm tired of being far away from home, far from what can help, far from where it's safe - Front line, I won't stand in the back, 'cause you want me to - I guess I'm lost I had to pay the cost. The thing that hurt me most was that I wasn't lost (love this!) -Freedom's what you choose to do with what's been done to you Musically? Love it! It's an album I will listen to start to end, very unique songs for very specific emotions, sonically great and i love the pairing of the old and the new, a lot. She explored and created in a time where a LOT has been done in art. I do adore the abuse of autotune if its done properly, and in this album it is done very good. Visually? Stunning Music videos? All INSANE ! Tour? Not a world wide tour but an amazing tour and concept where you could feal a warmth you couldnt in arenas. Despite the issues, the problems, the malfunctions, the pain Madonna fought her way through of it all to deliver her message, thoughts, fears to us - She admitted feeling so lonely at some time and she really seemed to be. And she found her way again. What Madonna does and expresses in MadameX is something the world is not quite ready for yet and I'm truly hurt that despite trying to build a better world while we have the ability, for earth and for our species, we are so resilient to change and I think this is what Madonna has been doing her whole life and I admire - embracing change. Why do you?

    Why I love MadameX

love reading your thoughts. i share a lot of your thoughts on the album. i wont say it is my favorite album from her, but i even get some enjoyment out of the songs I least like. the more i listen to the album, the more i like it. i will admit upon first listening i wasnt too impressed with the over used vocal effects. for some songs like Future, it works, but other times its not necessary. its like that one word you hear in Ghosttown where you hear the obvious autotune. I am like "why"? it sticks out like a sore thumb and its one of my favorite songs from her ever. what is cool about Madonna is that she doesnt ever do the same album twice. she keeps moving on and evolving. sure she goes back to certain themes and genres, but it still is a step up from before. i know some will disagree but i try to look for what i enjoy from her than what i dont. thats how i am about life. too much shit brings us down as it is, so why look for it in an artist we enjoy?

think of it from the prospective of Madonna. if you were documenting your tour and had enough footage to make a film out of it, and include various performances (much like she did with Truth Or Dare), wouldnt you want the focus be on that documentary? after all, she had something to say with IMGTTYAS whether we liked it or not. i dont find it odd for her to include Lisbon footage since they were documenting the whole tour anyway. not only that, it seemed there were plans to broadcast the Lisbon Show, but it fell short with the network. also, we have heard Madonna wasnt happy with the filming of that show, but it didnt mean she didnt like portions of that show. maybe for a time, we were going to get both the documentary and concert in full. her management had kept promising the actual concert as well. but i can see Madonna wanting to push the documentary over a full concert being it was something different.

With more sophisticated melodies and hooks this album would be one of her best. There’s just something missing. I don’t know if it’s her voice that doesn’t bring the chorus home anymore or whether it’s a considered effort to lean away from hooks and singalong choruses. the project is so ambitious and beautifully delivered. We really were spoiled. She posted the God Control video today In honour of Pride and the Pulse nightclub shootings. I wonder if she has been holding back the remixes for pride month?

  8. Hi guys! Now that we are officially in a Madonna drought and also self isolating because of coronavirus I have decided to launch my Madonna YouTube channel. Each week I will be covering a new era in a little 5-10 minute documentary starting with the Madonna era in 1983. So far I have edited a segment for each era in the 80's and it includes everything from albums, tours, films etc. There are 22 segments for the 80's in total and of course I hope to do the rest in time. The idea of this page is to share her history with casual and new fans and also of course for us long term fans to enjoy a trip down memory lane. It will feature lots of interviews, rare clips, interviews with other people involved in her projects etc. I hope you all enjoy it! And thank you to everyone on this forum who have shared videos over the years as a lot of the content has come from here and I couldn't have done it without you. Sorry that I probably can't credit you all individually as that would involve knowing who each video came from and its kind of impossible. But thank you! Before I launch it I am trying to get more followers and have made a little trailer which covers her entire career in a 1 minute clip. Hope nobody has an anxiety attack watching it! EDIT: I will be posting full episodes on Vimeo

  9. One of the best concerts I have ever seen in my life was when U2 toured the Joshua Tree album back in 2017 they did all the hits plus the whole Johsua Tree album live. Joshua Tree is an iconic album and hearing all live was one of the best experiences ever. It got me wondering though, i'd love to see Madonna do something like that for one of her big albums like Like a Prayer or Ray of Light or something. When people go to gigs, apart from die-hard fans, most people want to hear the hits. I think if Madonna did this it would be a huge success she's not exactly short on hits, she could do a Best Of set and still have hits left over. I don't think she ever will do something like that but it'll be cool if she did i think tickets would sell like hot-cakes.

  10. I'm sure Madonna today is proud she created Madame X. Before everything else, her job is music and her expression through it. So so many things happening this year serve as real life videos to what she is saying on this record. And it wasn't even prophetic. It's about things that have been going on and are still going on and now people are realising a little better. And it's good to be an artist on Twitter and criticize abuse of power and all the shit that's going wrong in the world, it's good to be an artist out on the streets protesting. But all of it can be done by all of us. It requires some different kind of courage to dedicate an important piece of your work to conveying important messages. Especially from artists not directly affected. Records after all stay there in time, waiting for us to discover them. I spent last year vibing and dancing to Madame X and I am spending this year finding consolation there. I hope people who need it more than I can find it on Madame X as well. People who had rejected it when life was easier.

  12. I discovered these amazing videos yesterday and I take so much pleasure watching it ! Hope at the end (in a long time) we can have a (very) long form of it all. How good it is ! I've had never seen the images of her dancing with Martin Burgoyne in the first episode ! Where are they from ? I had also never seen the interview on the tv show where she sings Borderline ! The tube ? Thanks thanks thanks.

  13. I am pretty sure Madonna was only signed through Sire, a subsidiary of WB. I think she went to Europe because the dance music scene was stronger and the sort of image Madonna had fit in more with that scene. The UK press were quite nice to her in the early days. Seymour or Michael Roseblatt knew Rusty Egan as well and he was big enough in the UK to give Madonna some clout when he mixed Everybody for that market. Which Madonna hated and had no qualms telling him. When she did a promo trip to the UK in Feb 83, she refused to perform his version and later told him she hated it and he was a shit producer/remixer. I think in terms of the Lucky Star album. From what I have heard, Madonna was being pushed to be more like Pat Benatar and that album cover seems more like something she or Cyndi Lauper (who was not well known at this point) might have done. Rock/Pop was still a thing in 82-83, but was also dying out in the US. This might explain why they went with Burning Up as the second single and why this track was eventually scrapped in Europe/UK. Madonna stated in interviews in 83 that she wanted a more raw sound, more rough and street (one of the reasons she was unhappy with Reggie Lucas' more polished production) I'd go along with the idea that Madonna hated the cover and Rosenblatt agreed. Michael doesn't get enough credit with pushing Madonna mainstream and working hard on helping her to build her career. The album cover we got is more in line with Madonna's image. Madonna herself said the reason Dance music artists were failing bac then was because they didn't have the image to back up or compliment the music. She saw, even in 83 with MTV in its infancy, that image was important. So I would go with the idea that she managed to convince Rosenblatt and Stein to scrap the original concept.

  17. She posted the whole God Control video today on her insta today in support and memory of the pride Pulse a nightclub shooting. I wonder if she has also been purposely holding the God Control remixes back specifically for Pride Month? Unlikely but just a thought. Maybe it feels too opportunistic?

Yesterday I rewatched the first half of RIT DVD. I have to admit it doesn't look good, in a certain way I understand why M didn't want to release it. It's much different than IMGTTYAS. Is it the shots? The editing? The lights? Can someone explain what is wrong in it?

  24. That's exactly it. Madonna did not like the Edo Bertoglio cover (that looked a lot like what he did for another singer Cristina who passed away this year). In his book "Siren Song", Seymour Stein says that Madonna asked the art direction at Warner to not go with this cover and told Martin it was a decision made by the label Another version came from Michael Rosenblatt who was in charge of Madonna at the time, he thought she was not blonde enough on the pics. Warner US had no interest in Madonna at that time. She was in fact signed under WEA the european branch of Warner so she had no real support and hence why she did so much promo in Europe for Holiday. Warner started getting interested when Borderline exploded and the album sales went up. It's all in Seymour Stein's book.

  25. So you have to go back to 1982. This girl from the clubs was putting out a new sound so she only got signed for 3 singles initially (im sure someone more involved in her story may know the details) and when those 3 singles were successful she was then offered a new contract with a full album or maybe 2 and then they released her first album that contained those singles that had come out the previous year. I wouldnt look at it as they plonked the album with no lead single but more like, they created a lot of excitement for her debut album by essentially releasing 3 lead singles. Its almost like weve gone back to that formula nowadays. Several "songs" come out before an album with the hopes that one will catch on with the GP and be officially known as the lead single. So many artists do this now but for some reason Katy Perry comes to mind.....how many songs has she dropped in the past 6 months hoping for one to catch to then announce her brand new album?

  26. Lucky Star did get released as the 3rd single in U.K. as “full length version” and “edit” and got the gorgeous sunglasses cover in color. But it flopped while Holiday was getting a lot of traction. I still haven’t managed to get my hands on the 7” which is extremely rare and expensive. The flop of LS is the reason why Holiday never got a video. They were afraid to invest more money before they had proof her music will sell. After she promoted the song on every relevant TV show and the album was a hit they quickly shot back to back videos for Borderline and Lucky Star.

  27. I'd love if she did one for Erotica considering she gets so much slack for her age now and if she did Erotica in full it would be a massive F.U to people saying cause she's getting older it doesn't mean she still can't be sexy.

  28. I have the Burning Up 7" from the Netherlands who announces the forthcoming album "Lucky Star". Although the real cover is much more iconic, I'd love if the original title had been kept!

  29. Ah man as a fan in the UK her number 2's were torture. So many and so many number 3's too #2 Holiday Borderline Crazy For You Live To Tell Hanky Panky (nearly number 1 is insane to me) Justify My Love Ray Of Light Beautiful Stranger American Life Hollywood Me Against The Music #3 Like A Virgin Material Girl Cherish Rescue Me This Used To Be My Playground Erotica Dont Cry For Me Argentina Die Another Day Celebration For me I'd probably go with Holiday because it was kept off the number 1 spot here by Madonna herself with Into The Groove so it was robbed by it's own sister. Plus it really does deserve it and would give her a number 1 from all her first six albums (including WTG soundtrack and I'm Breathless)

  31. I think systemic racial injustice and deaths at the hands of law enforcement are more disgusting but hey, as long as you're happy . “For years now I have heard the word "Wait!" It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This "Wait" has almost always meant "Never." We must come to see, with one of our distinguished jurists, that "justice too long delayed is justice denied.” Martin Luther King Jr.

  32. I get the whole don’t like looking back mantra that she has - I mean who likes looking back at old home movies and pics of ourselves in our prime ? It’s actually quite depressing ? but she knows that most fans now are the ones that have followed her since the early days and we get very nostalgic about her early and loved eras especially blond ambition and for me - the true blue who’s that girl era - I don’t see this kind of tour ever happening and due to the disaster of the last tour and her body is telling her to slow down , I just don’t see her ever touring again to be honest ?
