  3. I find quite shocking (not only in parts of this topic, just in general) how some fans talk about her looks, her personal life, her boyfriends and even her role as a mother. (And yes, I've been guilty of that, too). While she's doing what she's always done: living her life by HER own standards, not anyone else's. For better or for worse. Let her be...

  5. I fail to see how her intimate relationships are anybody's business. And when we "comment" on something without having all the information, we tend to look foolish. I wouldnt want random people I dont know passing judgment on the boy im dating. Get your own and back off.

  8. WHAT ISN'T RIGHT??!@# How does one know what is right for another person?! Her life isn't a fucking Q-ANON mystery to solve because YOU have issues. You say you read a lot of books... well maybe you should read one about minding your own business and trying to not psychoanalyze someone's life whom you have never met and only receive ANY sort of info through 30 second videos snippets and photographs. (AKA NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION TO MAKE ANY SORT OF ASSUMPTION ABOUT ANYTHING) You are insufferable.

  13. Typically I’d agree with the “her private relationships are her business” and they are. I have personally never had a problem with people discussing her relationships. This is a very specific fan forum and not a general discussion board of celebrities in general. It’s not Instagram Facebook or Twitter where she trends or can be deliberately targeted. It’s not a think piece on an online publication, entertainment section or local rag. It’s hard core fans who have likely followed every minute of her life and career. There IS a differentiation here. Romantic Relationships, whilst I don’t find particularly interesting part of the Madonna brand will always be of interest to the fan base because we know historically they often fall into her professional career, whether it be a musical pairing, a film project, a magazine spread or someone who is featured in her documentaries. Madonna has always invited us into her personal world. Even in recent years her boyfriends have been part of her work and she continues to align herself with them in front of the camera. I would probably say more than any other legit megastar I know. Madonna is a cultural, feminist and gay icon. Choices and alliances in her personal life have a direct correlation to understanding who she is and what she stands for. Her alignment with the gay and black community in particular. I think it’s naive to think otherwise. Her children on the other hand, I have reservations about. They have no choice in the matter. Yes she over exposes them to us but in some way maybe that’s her way of protecting them. I don’t know it’s something I’d like to steer clear on commenting on too much. They too have been politicised in many ways through the media. But I think the kids deserve more respect. Her partners... they’re fair game for commentary in a forum like this for sure. As long as it’s respectful and doesn’t lurk behind walls of misogyny, racism or ageism I’m good.

  15. She’s an amazing mother. I don’t think any one can question that. Do we fall out with our mothers or disagree with their decisions for us when we think we know better.. yes. For someone who never had a mother herself her compassion and investment in her kids in both time and energy is astounding. Yes they are well provided for and have staff but they have her with them all the time. How many of us working class kids had loving caring parents who we simply didn’t get to see very much growing up because they were out working their asses off to put food in our mouths? She educated them, exposes them to art and life and experiences and challenges their opinions and if Rocco takes exception to that or just misses his dad and wants to share his living situation between both of them it’s a) none of my damn business and b) perfectly normal for a young man to want to be around his main role model. His father. Madonna grew up with one parent, why should Rocco? Her kids all seem bloody amazing and so different. Mercy James melts my heart. I’m not sure why or how I quoted you. Sorry.

  17. Yikes, this thread took a disgusting turn. The discussion isn't even about the music anymore, it's basically an excuse to psychoanalyze Madonna's behavior and shame her for her current looks, bad choices on romantic partners or even for her parenting skills. This forum used to be a great alternative to the toxicity of other websites, it's a shame really. I think we all want Madonna to be as happy and successful as possible but some of these comments are just way out of line, she is not our fucking friend. On-topic: I am extremely excited for the biopic era and I hope it turns out to be a resounding success. If the film is released in time for the 40th anniversary of The First Album, I assume there will be Warner re-issues, the soundtrack compilation and possibly a new studio album and tour to profit from the hype. At this point, Madonna is a living legend and deserves to be celebrated as such.

  22. So what ? Should she force herself to be single ? Or should she force herself to stay in a relationship because it could affect her children ? She is a mother but she's a woman too. She has the right to live her life as she wants. As for Rocco, we don't even know why he left her. BTW, he is the only one who had a problem with her. It was probably a period of teenage rebellion. Lourdes seems to really love her mother. She's not living with her (well she's 24) but she's always near at heart.

  24. Absolutely spot on and very, very true. Now when i start talking about M with people (non fans) they immediately talk about her strange plastic face and how ridiculous she looks. And no, those people are not agist because when you mention Jane Fonda or other over 60's female celebrity who didn't abused plastuc procedures those same people are like "What a beautiful woman, she ages really well". I mean, seriously, none sane minded person can think this is right, it' s pure bad taste and trashy, there is nothing classy in those huge pornstar over bloated lips, that over filled face it looks like she has a fat mask over her real face, her eyes (which used to be huge) are now so tight and tiny she looks asian (and not in a good way), and i'm not even talking about the ridiculous Donal Duck fake ass... how could the most classy and intelligent female entertainer became such a plastic joke... i love her to the moon and back, but her platsic procedures are going way over board and she clearly starts to looks like Pete Burns. I mean the woman had a stunning face structure And no way she would have been horrible at 60yo. With just a few subtles touch up here and there she would have look absolutely gorgeous. Instead she ruined her physical to end up looking like that : Absolutely true and realistic. Now i will say it once and for good, like i've never said it before and no matter how much backlash i get for it : if she doesn't stop all her non sense circus including : ridiculous plastic procedures (face, ass etc...), grills on a white 63 woman, dating publicly barely legal boys at 63 (yes i said it) she is finished. Simple as that. At that point, she damaged her grand public perception so much that i think the music don't even comes first anymore. To me she clearly lost her mind. Even her son, for God sake, her own son didn't want to live with her anymore. That says a lot. How many child around you do you know who chose to live with their father instead of their mother? Only those who's mother has serious issues. Do you put yourself in those kids shoes for a minute ? And you have a new step father every 3 years which is younger and younger everytime that the next one is almost your age. You can have the most luxious house of the world and as much money as you want that must be very disturbing. If my mother had acted that way when i was a teen for sure i would have left the house and started going the wrong way. Enough with seeing her as "Intouchable" juste because she is the woman i have all the records since i'm a child and she has made the soundtrack of my life. now start to attack me i am ready !

  31. I believe that we can describe two different categories of artists: the ones who have a 'normal life' and the ones who are intrinsically restless and hunger for life. We can take Antonio Canova as a model for the first category: he was successful, he had his own workshop and he was appreciated by sovereigns. After all he had a normal life, just because he guided his artistic instincts rationally and pragmatically. On the other hand we can take Vincent Van Gogh as an example: as everybody knows, he had a restless life, he lived in lots of cities and he was never satisfied with his life and his art. Artists who belong to the second category need to feel connected with their inner self, with the universe, they need to find the inner sense of their life and they live art viscerally: that's why they feel the necessity of being always challenged by society, by their loved ones and it explains why they travel frequently and try everything. But the most important thing about this kind of artists is that they need to feel loved and appreciated to be able to create something astonishing. Artists who belong to the first category carry out their project no matter how they feel: they want to fulfill the contract and then move on. Said that, I believe that our beloved singer belongs to the second category, so the quality of her projects mirrors how much happy she was when she made them. If it was confirmed she is working with Leonard, I wouldn't be surprised at all, because, before being a producer, he is a friend for her (let's be honest, they had a long term partnership and lyrically their songs are stellar, so it would be reasonable she came back to collaborate with him). In conclusion, I don't give a damn about her relationships: if she's happy and satisfied with her life, her contract and the freedom the label gives her, it's enough for me. (sorry, I'm quite wordy, I know it)

  37. I love Kylie. But sorry, Madonna still sells better than her because she still has an effect on the US market as with the rest of the world. Disco will hardly reach even Madame X's half a million copies. M could take notes on how to churn out albums often like Kylie though, but unfortunately she has like six kids more. As for the man, won't even comment on that. When it comes to the music, men are out of the picture. Try listening to Taylor Swift instead.

  38. Hi All! Like a lot of fans lately I do not understand her, and I am in a love/hate relationship with her at the moment. But the only thing that it matters to me is to know if she is happy. We do not know that, but if she is happy with all her choices, that's fine with me. We should never forget how many things she has done to entertain us during the last 4 decades, and she is still there. She might not be the best at taking care of her legacy or her social media, but we should never forget how amazing her career has been. Let's try to focus on the topic of this thread, her possible collaboration with Pat. I am not extremely excited about this, as we know that usually her collaborations with previous producers have not been as great as the first one, but maybe with Pat that could be different... who knows? I guess all this time looking back has maybe inspired her to go back to her roots. It will be interesting to hear a collaboration with Pat again, but I would love her to work with other new people, like as someone said, Brian Eno. She just needs to focus on her creativity side and stop trying to sound like the rest of artists and stop all these featurings. But once again, if she happy making that type of music I am happy. I can always revisit other albums and enjoy them. She is an artist and that's her evolution, if I don't like Madame X, I don't have the right to say she is downgrading her art, she is simply evolving into a different type of artist. We are all growing, and she can't please all of us. I just want her to be happy, she deserves it.

  39. If you’ve never had a substantially younger partner I highly recommended it. By 38 the guys my own age came with too much baggage, were stuck in their ways and had bizarrely limited points of view. The right younger partner reinvigorates your belief in love and living and the ability to grow and change. They also tend to be more open to advice. If anyone thinks Madonna is bending to the will of her younger I’d probably dispute that. We know this woman. She doesn’t bend to the will of man. She plays the role sometime but when it comes down to it she’s in control and it doesn’t even mean there’s a power struggle. If anything she might not be challenged on her decisions enough by him. I think being challenged by your partner forms part of a good partnership. I think she just likes trolling us more often than not which is super annoying. I think her new beau seems sweet tbh. The kids seem to like him and he seems chill.

  40. I guess being Madonna's child is safier than living in poverty and abandonment even though she's spied by paparazzi all the time, even though she's travelling all around the globe and dosen't have a normal live, etc. She's a good mother. They are everything to her and she is everything to them. She's giving all her love to them. She has had different lovers, she has the right to date men. And for sure, if they were affected by that she would know it and she'd do something.

    The Trinity of Pop

Once in a Lifetime: Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince In the Beginning... The waters flowing through the Great Lakes region were magical in the spring and summer of 1958, as the births of Prince, Madonna and Michael Jackson all occurred within a mere two months of each other. Prince Rogers Nelson was born June 7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, followed by Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone on August 16 in Detroit, Michigan, and Michael Joseph Jackson nearly two weeks later on August 29 in Gary, Indiana. Each of these musical innovators would become household names, putting their stamp on pop culture in their own, unique ways. While these artists’ styles and work have been compared and contrasted for decades, what’s often overlooked is the impact their formative years had on their young, developing minds, and ultimately their sense of self and worldview. The precocious trifecta of future megastars grew up in devoutly religious households: Madonna’s family was Roman Catholic; the Jacksons were members of the Jehovah’s Witness faith; and Prince was raised as a Seventh-day Adventist. A foundational religious discipline would easily lend itself to the establishment of a strict and rigorous work ethic later in life. Each of these rising talents would have a pivotal childhood heartbreak, which forced them to grow up quickly and discover creative ways to cope with emotional trauma. At the age of 5, Madonna would lose her mother to breast cancer, never to regain the unconditional love and bond of a maternal figure. And at the age of 6, Michael Jackson would become the lead singer of the Jackson 5, forcing him out of the playground into the working world of show business. Prince’s parents would separate and divorce before he was 10 years old, leaving his family broken and home life scattered. All three entertainers had strained relationships with their fathers, which would inspire some of their future work: In Prince’s movie, Purple Rain, we see his character grappling with a critical and abusive father and in Madonna’s autobiographical single “Oh Father,†she laments: “You can’t hurt me now, I got away from you, I never thought I would.†Baby I’m a Star! Budding stardom was recognized early on for these recording artists. Michael Jackson stepped into entertainment at the age when most kids are making milestones in kindergarten. Led by his father/manager, Michael grew up on the road, in the studio and on the stage. “I am most comfortable on stage than any other place in the world,†he shared in a 1980 interview on the TV program 20/20. Michael recorded his first album with the Jackson 5, Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5, at the age of 11. Being a part of the Motown family at an impressionable age allowed Michael to learn from some of the greats — backstage at the Apollo watching legendary James Brown and Jackie Wilson captivate audiences with their soulful singing and breathtaking choreography, and in the studio quizzing producers on how the recording process works. By the age of 20, Michael would produce 15 more studio albums with the Jackson 5, and later the Jacksons, developing and perfecting his vocal style, dance skills and songwriting abilities, before the release of his smash hit, solo album debut, Off the Wall, at the age of 21. Prince taught himself to play the piano at age 7, the guitar at age 13, and the drums at age 14. And at 14 years old, Prince began performing throughout Minneapolis with a local band called Grand Central. Three years later, Prince would have a masterful dexterity of 27 musical instruments and create his first demo tape of songs that he wrote, produced, performed and arranged himself. This demo would lay the foundation for Prince’s debut album, For You, released two months before his 20th birthday. Madonna began studying dance at age 14. She was a stellar student, graduated high school, and continued her dance education at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 1976. After two years, Madonna moved to the Big Apple, where she studied for a short time with the Alvin Ailey dance troupe and worked as a professional dancer for two years. Madonna added singing to her artistic mix, and began performing as a singer and backup dancer. “I studied very hard on learning how to play guitar, and piano, and drums, everything, and then I started writing music, and I got my own band together, made a demo tape, took it around to the record companies and got my record deal,†said Madonna in a 1983 radio interview with Paris DJ Stephen. Madonna released two disco club hit singles, “Everybody†and “Burning Up/Physical Attraction†before getting a recording contract to produce a full album. Five years after leaving Michigan for New York City, Madonna’s self-titled debut album was released in July1983. She was 24 years old. For all three rising solo artists from the Midwest, with their follow-up albums, they would skyrocket to global fame, define ‘80s pop culture, dominate the MTV music video landscape with their groundbreaking, uniquely stylized fusion of video storytelling through song and dance, break world records, color barriers and forever influence pop artists for generations to come. With Michael Jackson’s sophomore solo album, Thriller, he would enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the Greatest Selling Album of All Time (over 65 million copies sold). Michael would continue to break world records, receiving an additional 30 Guinness World Records, including Most Successful Entertainer of All Time. Madonna would receive the Guinness World Record for the Greatest Selling Female Recording Artist of All Time. Prince would be the only one of the three to receive an Oscar for Best Original Song Score for “Purple Rain.†Prince would tie the record for 12 consecutive years with a Top 10 pop single on the Billboard 100 charts in the U.S. Globally, Prince has sold over 150 million albums, Madonna over 300 million and Michael over 750 million. Working Day and Night The artistic and creative gifts of Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince are innate in their DNA: Michael’s mother, Katherine, was a singer and pianist and his father, Joseph, was a guitarist with his own band, The Falcons, before he began to focus full throttle on developing the talent of his sons. Prince’s mother, Mattie, was a jazz singer and his father, John, was a jazz pianist and songwriter with his own group, The Prince Rogers Nelson Trio. “Prince Rogers Nelson†was a stage name for John Nelson. Prince’s late father said that he had named his son Prince because he wanted the artist to be a musician, like him. And, Madonna’s mother, Madonna Louise Ciccone, was formerly a dancer. However, the epic success of all three icons would have been impossible without a relentless work ethic and a drive for excellence. “Study the greats, and become greater!†was one of Michael’s many mantras. R&B was an influence for these artists. Both Michael and Prince said that James Brown was one of their inspirations and exemplars — from the command of his band, his trademark original sound, and legendary choreography. And Hitsville U.S.A. struck a major chord with the Material Girl. “Motown is a really big influence with me ‘cause I grew up in Detroit, and I listened to all those old, Motown groups,†said Madonna in a 1983 interview with DJ Stephen on Radio Show. NBA great Kobe Bryant discussed Michael Jackson’s work ethic in a 2016 Jimmy Kimmel Live interview: “He showed me how he composed songs, how he structured them, how he trained, who inspired him...He walked me step by step through things that he learned from [his influences] and how it made him a better entertainer. How he studied the Beatles, how he broke down every single note and felt like there was a certain emotional connection with each chord. It was just fascinating stuff. I thought I was working hard until I met him.†In a 2016 ew.com interview, hit-making producer Jimmy Jam shared the following about Prince’s work ethic: “... He out-talented everyone by so much. In sports, it’d be like Michael Jordan. He walks into the gym and he’s the most talented player; that’s how Prince was. He walked in and he was more talented than everybody...He’d come to rehearsal, work with us, go work with his band, then he’d go to his studio all night and record. The next night he’d come to rehearsal with a tape in his hand and he’d say, ‘This is what I did last night!’ and it’d be something like ‘1999.’†And celeb trainer Nicole Winhoffer told eoline.com in 2014: “Madonna stands as an icon. Her body, work ethic, and persistence is an inspiration to the people.†Express Yourself “It’s my own style. Unique and original. You won’t see it anywhere else.†—Madonna, Paris interview with DJ Stephen on Radio Show (1983) “I strive for originality in my work. And, hopefully it will be perceived that way.†—Prince, first television interview on MTV (1985) “My attitude is if fashion says it’s forbidden, I’m going to do it. In many ways an artist is his work, it’s difficult to separate the two. I think I can be brutally objective about my work as I create it, and if something doesn’t work, I can feel it, but when I turn in a finished album - or song - you can be sure that I’ve given it every ounce of energy and God-given talent that I have.†—Michael Jackson, the autobiography, Moonwalk (1988) The greatest gift that Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson have given to the world is their unique, artistic voice. Their collective ability to masterfully blend music, dance, live performance, music videos, film and fashion to create artistic expressions that resonated across generations and countries is unparalleled. Their influence on our culture is multi-dimensional, transformative and everlasting. The world before Madonna, Prince and Michael was one in which we’d watch artists sing and perform, and we might sing along to their music. When Madonna, Prince and Michael each had their meteoric rise in the ‘80s — and declared they were originals, were going to push boundaries, yet also perform with a level of creativity and innovation never before seen — they created a deeper level of engagement with their audience and the public. In addition to singing their songs, we began to emulate their dance moves and sartorial tastes. Their appeal was contagious, enchanting, universal and international: black, white, young, old, straight or gay, it was a cultural revolution, unlike any other: * Madonna had young girls around the world wearing rubber bracelets, lots of lace, and big hair bows. Michael Jackson created a new look: a signature red leather jacket with black trim — the Thriller jacket — which sold internationally. And, how can we forget that purple became the most popular color on the planet, when Prince’s movie, Purple Rain, was released. * Everyone wanted to perform the Moonwalk, seamlessly and flawlessly, just like Michael Jackson. Who didn’t attempt to do a full split and spin, after watching Prince do it in Purple Rain? Madonna introduced a formerly underground dance style performed at house balls for a mostly gay community, vogueing, to the mainstream. Madonna, Prince and Michael will always be known as trendsetters and tastemakers. Yet, their bodies of work also move people’s spirits and emotions. Emanating from their creative expression are themes of freedom, rebellion, acceptance, inclusion, peace, joy, fun and romance. In their music and videos, they also tackle controversial topics such as race, religion, politics and sexuality. Most of all, we find Madonna, Prince, and Michael likable and relatable, because we see and embrace their humanity, complexities and eccentricities. All three of them are cultural misfits, who never quite fit in, but somehow rose to the top and stayed there. They are our American heroes, the underdogs from Midwestern, working-class families who succeeded, against all odds. Prince was the short guy from Minneapolis who embraced androgyny and, despite his stature, was larger than life. In reality, Michael Jackson was shy, alone, and kept to himself. On stage, Michael Jackson was a breathtaking force — dynamic and otherworldly. Two distinctly different personas — offstage and onstage — within the same man. Madonna fought disappointment and loss from her youth with rebellion. She pushed her past aside, moved forward, always robustly, with a propensity for head-turning, over-the-top attire and behavior. In the imperfect, there lies perfection. Gone Too Soon With the recent loss of Prince, it is hard to imagine that, like Michael Jackson, the new music will be coming from a vault. There will be no more live performances, cameo appearances, philanthropic projects or political statements to be made. That untouchable trifecta of musical titans from the Midwest were all supposed to live forever, if only to continue the soundtrack for an aging Generation X, much like how baby boomers still have the Rolling Stones. While the legacies of Prince and Michael will be timeless, up-and-coming artists will look to them for inspiration; the Purple One and the King of Pop are the ascended masters and reference points. The pain will linger in knowing that the creative environment that allowed these legends to flourish has vanished. The industry has changed along with the way music is produced. Songs aren’t as rich as they used to be. Instruments have been overpowered by synthesizers, samples and beats. Auto-Tune has replaced raw vocals in the studio. New and emerging artists don’t have the freedom or flexibility to be daring and different. There is a marketing and promotional formula that must be followed — people aren’t even buying music like in previous decades, so budgets have dwindled for things like artist development. What will the next generation of pop artists look like? Will the pipeline to a recording contract be dominated by reality TV competitions? Could a young artist, who can play over two dozen musical instruments even fathom getting a record deal or complete creative control? We can never deny that in their heyday Prince, Michael and Madonna, now the surviving member of the trifecta, shoved the envelope and set the bar for trend-setting music makers who came after them. Many may not appreciate or comprehend Madonna’s impact today, but that can’t diminish her influence. What’s next for the queen of reinvention? Whatever is on the horizon, like a prayer, she might just take us there.

  44. I can't believe no one ever told her how shitty his musical arrangements are. I mean she came from Stuart Price to him. Has she never realized how karaoke-ish most of his tour arrangements sound? Tears of a clown was particularly bad with her singing over the album versions of songs (including vocals). The only good tour arrangement he has cerated was Vogue in 2008, the rest were uninspired mash ups or versions with cheep drum loops.

  45. In my opinion she is already finished. She will not stop with the surgery, she is in a spiral of irreversible self-degradation, the sign of a sick mind. She is her worst enemy. She doesn't care if she is no longer successful, she naively sees it as a sign that her art has become radicalized and that she no longer works for the masses. I am art as complex as it is. She is all alone in her bubble around her gravitates opportunists who enjoy the luxury she offers them in the window and who dance around her to give her the illusion that her life is a party

  46. Hope it will not be only movie related. I suspect she didn't appreciate the way Interscope tried to change her music in favor of something which could catch younger generations (I'm 21 and I hate most of the current music) and pushed her to be someone she isn't: her music is commercial but not banal. That could explain why, since Madame X project, she decided to come back to her old collaborators and Pat Leonard is on the list. Since it's quite certain her comeback to Warner, I pray she'll release a classic Madonna album, maybe with Orbit (it would be a dream), Leonard himself or Brian Eno, Rick Nowels and so on. I believe she still has an ace up in her sleeve. P.S. It's my first post here. I want to apologize in advance 'cause English is not my first language.

  48. The way the woman has used this song to edge me repeatedly for years on so many occasions. I never understand why this song is so neglected. It’s epic, it’s ballsy, it’s a journey, a mood. It has her best lyrics of any song she’s ever written and most other songs and contains her best power vocal, a husky verse and the best ad libs of her career. Plus a choir. It also broke billboard chart history and was played way before it was released. How has it been so neglected?
