  1. The infamous relationship between the Gen Z and the old '80s stars...My nightmare. I'm a member of the generation that Don McLean could describe as a generation lost in space/with no time left to start again, the small generation of people who were born in 1998-1999, often forgotten by society. I mean, we're different from people who were born in the '90s, but we're also different from who was born in the '00s: we're eternally hanging between the past and the present, between Madonna and Britney Spears, it's not an easy life ?. But what's interesting about us is that lots of us are fans of old rock band and old popstars (one of my best friends was an avid fan of Kiss and Led Zeppelin, since we still were at the elementary school, around 2005-2006, several of my classmates at the high school are fans of Red Hot Chili Peppers), mainly because we grew up listening to the radio and our parents' CDs. When I was 6, in 2005, every single time my uncle turned the radio on, it played only Hung Up or Like a Virgin (I'm not kidding) and I always shot questions at my mother about the singer: I was a little fan of her although I wasn't aware of it. Internet gave us the big opportunity to improve our knowledge about music and I remember that the first times I used YouTube I liked watching old performances of Beatles, ABBA, Madonna and so on. Lots of my classmates instead became interested in current music. What I want to say is that we, as a generation, have been deeply influenced by our parents' tastes about music: when she was a young lady, my mother listened to Paul Young, Enya, Madonna (at least up to 1989), Tracy Chapman and I absorbed all of these things from her. It's obvious that all of us, when we grew up, decided to go into what was more interesting for us: lots of people chose current music, other people, like me, decided to go into the '80s-'90s, but we all have the same musical background, mainly '60s-'90s, and we're not afraid to show the world we like old but gold music. Lots of members of younger generations are instead frightened to seem to be out of fashion if they listen to old good music: they think they are required to be always on the cut of the edge and this problematic aspect affects their music tastes: they don't listen to old music not because they don't like it, simply because they label it as old and for them being old is not admissible (when I was attending my final year at the high school, at the bus stop lots of kids, around 14-15 years old, looked at me as if I was an ancient member of the society). I'm very scared by this situation and confused. But, there is good news. One of my dearest friends last year told me that for her exam about ethnomusicology at the university she had to study a whole book about our beloved singer, a book where her videos, her songs were analyzed and dissected, along with her social impact. Then she said me that one of the question of the exam was about the Justify My Love video: I can assure you that when she mentioned that video all the other girls that were with us at the gym started to scream because they knew the song (they're around my age, 20-22). Her impact is not in doubt, her name is already written on the pages of the history of music, nothing will erase it. The coming years will clarify her status as a benchmark and pioneer, not just in music but also in social issues, and they will help us to understand the significance of her works in these troubled years. You're not a legend if you can't catch younger fans with your older songs. That's what she did with me and I'll be forever grateful to be able to share this crazy trip we call life with her music.

  6. Itd be great if, with each digital re-release, they'd include a brand new 2020/2021 remix. Im hoping we get digital releases of the Unconscious in The Jungle remix of Bedtime Story or some more obscure, promo-only remix like the DJ Premier mix of Dont Tell Me.

  7. No it is only allowed to trash and put down Madonna here and hip hop & RnB. Havn't you read the thread ? It should be renamed though since it is no longer about (fake) new album rumours but about ex fans who can't let go.

  9. I'm not even kidding, i can't cope with that. If someone, who is over, let's say 15 yo tells me he doesn't know who Madonna is i would litterally be psychologically broken, like i've just been sent in outer space, for real. Like my whole world has just collapse.

  15. To put things in perspective: a ballad is about 50 bpm a mid tempo song like Secret 100 bpm Folklore album songs range from 75-152 bpm Frozen has great danceable mid tempo remixes. Dance music doesn’t mean only cha cha gay circuit “house” music.

  16. Your coworkers live in a very myopic world. I know classic musicians and their music well and it isn't because I grew up during those times. To not know Patsy Cline, Donna Summer, Elvis or the Beatles is unthinkable. Your coworkers are not very well rounded.

  17. Loads of interesting comments kind of agree with all of them. Yeah I would guess too that Mike Dean worked on mixing of all the tracks, it is her best engineered album since Confessions and some really great production the baselines are so strong and which I guess is a sign Mike Dean had his hand on much of it and was really noticeable on the live show as the Madame X tracks literally made the room vibrate through their baselines. It's so much better than Rebel Heart production wise you can tell alot more care and attention to detail has been put into the mixing but am also a bit ored with the songs centred around beats and baselines leaning it towards a more hip hop type sound but is much more sophisticated production and better recorded and mixed than Rebel Heart and agree the vocoder effect I know she said she likes to sound robotic on purpose but it does make her vocals sound shaky and too shrill in parts. I don't think she has sounded as lush and wam sounding vocally since the work she recorded for the Music sessions with William Orbit - perhaps the recoding and mixing techniques used were different plus the style of music was different. Am not sure we need another album with the Mike Dean sound would be interesting how Madame X would have sounded if Mirwais has been the executive producer and how he envisaged the final version of the songs sounding

  21. I don't actually have anything relevant to add to this thread, but I just love how Medellín divides fans. I hated it on the first listen, then I loved it. I still love it, but at the same time I hate it. I don't know how to explain it.

  22. *triggered* Because we have eyes. We have videos of Madonna+her kids+dozens of locals dancing/cheering together. Almost nobody's wearing a mask or distancing, and Madonna's basically making herself the spokesperson of non-distancing by posting such videos to her millions of followers. Because I know first-hand what the local guidelines are in Malawi, and that ain't it. Maybe you don't. Google is your best friend, it's probably all there. Check it out. Indeed they are. And she and her team are absolutely not following the national protocol. They didn't in England, they didn't in the US, and again in Malawi. She's clearly making a point of defiance via her many videos, month after month. And now she's doing this with the blessing of the local officials - who are just too happy to have Malawi making headlines all over the world just because of her presence there. They are only too aware that 90% of the world hadn't even heard the word "Malawi" before Madonna put it on the media-map 15 years ago. According to you, there isn't any. I'm sure that according to Madonna, there's no reason for drama either. She was lucky not to be one who's had a child under respiratory equipment, lost a parent or a partner to Covid. She's not the one who's going to heal or mourn the people who might be infected with Covid by her very presence or that of her team members during her post-colonial parties in Malawi. She's arrived with a party of +25 people in Lilongwe (flights from the US, the UK) all of them tested with PCR tests post-flight, yet none of them was quarantined, all of them immediately in close contact with locals after their PCR tests. If you have any medical knowledge or expertise, you'd realize how mental that is, especially when travelling from the US to Africa these days. Then again, I doubt your specialty is virology or epidemiology, otherwise you wouldn't be defending your diva this way. "We don't know" - oh yes, we do. Even if it hadn't been months of fuck-ups on her part through her posts on SM. Even if it had JUST been that one Malawi video she posted... that's enough to call her an irresponsible moron when it comes to that pandemic. But that's very far from being her first strike. Oh and your "you should read books"-tirade is incredibly out of place and smug. You assume I haven't (and I won't even waste my time defending my credits, that's completely irrelevant here), while I assume that people like you, who despite being shown evidence and having all the cards in hands to make an informed and factual opinion on this matter, decide to go "we don't know", are tepid and neutral. Not all opinions are valid. And at least mine wasn't insulting towards you. Facts are : there are protocols in place all over the world. Madonna's making a point in defying them over and over again, and showing her stand via her social media. I'm making a point calling her an irresponsable idiot on this. Her decisions regarding Covid - or what she's decided to showcase about it at least - make her an irresponsable idiot on this matter. I'm all for her doing whatever she wants with her kids, her demented fake bottom, her career, her boyfriends, whatever, that's her life - but the constant defiance against medical corpus via social media is just gross and makes her an entitled, rich idiot. In the end, after 10 months of this crap, it's just exhausting to keep having these conversations with people who aren't informed, who will defend their idol no matter what, and who certainly haven't been touched by Covid themselves. Get back to me to defend Madonna's no-mask-policy when you'll have seen dozens of people of all ages die from Covid like I did, and then we'll talk. Maybe you'll be a little less protective of her and a little bit more angry at irresponsible people like her.

  23. The Girlie Show. One of her BEST live performances in terms of staging and choreography. Her performance shows both her skill as a dancer and how strong her body was. Also musically, The Girlie Show remains my favourite 'live' band, it's amazing how they re-created the MAW remix with live instruments, completely giving it another vibe. Totally mesmerising.

    Madame X Tour DVD

Her management is so out of touch with reality that they think a theater tour with zero promo from streams will still generate good sales if they spend 2 more years until they release it. They need to put it on Netflix or release it on BluRay like yesterday if they want it to get some success and relevancy.

    Madame X Production

Not regarding the production but medellin. I also wonder why she thought it was necessary to autotune the shit out of her live vocals when shes just talking the lines. “i took a pill and had a dream“ It makes her sound very shaky I think.

  39. Another thing people are forgetting is she is not merely going there for fun and a vacation. She is checking on her charity. People are allowed to travel for work.

  40. She couldn’t totally be against following protocols and totally defiant when one of her videos shows her being tested for it before going to the New Years Eve party I always wear masks but I wonder how effective they are. There are plenty of people who wear them but still get infected. The problem is most people don’t wear them properly. People take them on and off without washing their hands. I have heard the argument that they give you a false sense of security. Where I live people wear them all the time, but the Covid infection rate keeps increasing. I think there needs to be a balance between being safe and keeping people prisoners in their houses all the time. I always wear masks and don’t go to big parties, but I do go to restaurants eating outside. I know some people say I am irresponsible for doing that, but I would go crazy if I couldn’t leave my house There is a lot of shaming of people even when they follow rules because people aren’t staying home 24/7. We were told that if you stay home and wear masks life will go back to normal but it doesn’t seem to be working. The only thing that will get things back to normal is when enough people get the vaccine.

  41. Its obvious Madonna should be wearing and promoting mask use and not just doing the bare min when forced to, not sure if she is anti from the trump like mask is sign of weakness ego side or from the narcissist you must see my face in promo side, suspect the former.

  42. I have never been a fan of remixes of ballads and slower songs. They never really work. I don’t understand why people are so eager for her to abandon dance music?

  43. No it isn't. We're just witnessing white/rich privilege and Madonna being a complete idiot once again, without any shame whatsoever. She's so far gone she clearly doesn't realize what an irresponsible fool she has become.

Totally. I’m not even sure Rebel Heart got mastered. I agree with everything you said. I think the album sounds great, but vocals could stand to move back and let the instrumentation shine. maybe the Madame X Tour will sound a bit more balanced.

  47. When Beat Goes On exists I never understand the fascination with this song. It’s hella basic. Beat Goes in had a chance of being a genuine hit especially with the Kanye and Pharell feature at the time. make it make sense. Even when the Backdrop video had been filmed for the tour. Warners were high on ket at that time.
