  1. Alright, so I'm not sure that cheesy would be the word to use. But I do believe she has relaxed certain qualities of who she used to be. But I also think she is in a different part of her career and life. The Super Bowl performance was made to appeal to the audience of the Super Bowl. It was also basically the ONLY promotion she did and therefore I would argue ALOT was riding on it. No room for controversy or political statements. There wasn't time for a story ARC of dark to light, so there was really only a choice to be a smiley performer. As far as features... LMFAO was a bit cringey, but it was also a HUGE song at the time, as was Gangnam Style which she featured later at MSG in NYC. Is that her usual style? No. But with a decline in general public awareness, it inserts herself into the zeitgeist. It also, looking back, creates this magnificent graveyard of artists who have come and gone throughout her unusually long career. There's less than a handful who are still relevant today, I would argue. LMFAO and Cee Lo being some of the deaths along with past collabs like Meshell Ndegeocello, Prince, Britney (No Tea No Shade), Babyface, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland etc. I didn't find "I'm the Queen" thing to be cringey. I thought it to be appropriate at a time when someone was basically doing karaoke versions of her performances and looks (along with other artists as well) and don't get me wrong, I love Gaga. But perhaps it needed to be said. Because then Gaga changed her tune and put on a pink cowboy hat and it hasn't really happened since. I can't really argue with her billboard performance. Im not really sure what that was. I thought Future was amazing!!!! minus the horrible off key singing in Like a Prayer. The look, the choreo... one of her best IMHO. I think when it comes to TV performances.. they are never really her best. She does best on a tour stage when she can ease herself into a show. Hence why I would say she usually starts a show with pre recorded vocals. She needs to receive some validation before she relaxes. She doesn't get to do that in a TV performance. I think Hung Up the EMAs was an exception, but also the crowd looked like a concert too..... so IDK. Now, she's smoking pot often with her new boyfriend, acting like Avril Lavigne with her punk rock pink hair half-assed rock star look, and going maskless to re-enforce her "royal" status. I dont agree with any of this. Whys it gotta be punk because she got pink hair? Everybody got weird colored hair now. And going maskless to re-enforce... girl what? That is called a projection of how you feel. I think she doesn't have the general public behind her as much now, honestly, because there are so many bitches who do what she does now, but better to a certain degree. It's not quite as intellectual, which is where Madonna succeeds now... but I mean to quote herself she's not the best singer, and she's not the best dancer... and she's not as fuckable at 60, which has always been a defining feature of her brand. Guys would literally be scared of her, but still want to fuck her. They would literally not be interested in her music, but still want to see what the she was doing, because they wanted to fuck her. Dont get me wrong.. sometimes she still looks amazing and I can see she's still got it. but it's inevitable she's not going to pull in people like she used to. But she's reached a status that most artists dont reach, and that's the legacy acts. She will have a job until she decides to not have a job. She's up there with Paul McCartney and Tina Turner and Elton John and Billy Joel and Celine Dion ...there's not many others. After a stellar album like Madame X, I don't see how anyone could say she's cheesy. She does have cheesy moments tho. As far as her instagram... I think people read too hard into it. I think she's being herself. Which when you are talking about instagram ...I think that's a rare thing. I appreciate it. I prefer it.

  2. Madonna and Pepsi? I don't think so...

  3. If she had become cheesy she would be very popular. Look at elton John and cher and even gaga, that's what they do basically. The problem with Madonna is that she never does what people expect of her, it does not mean that what she does is good, it's just that she does not behave the way social media imposes to people how to behave. She triggers uneasiness in people. That's the contrary of cheesy.

  4. I don't think Madonna attitude had change much. She's getting older but she has been always a force with hints of narcissism. I think fans read it as cocky, strong woman , don't taking shit from anyone, stubborn. And she still is but now people are judging it because she suppose to turn into some nice grandma. Madonna from the 90s didn't have social media that's why she came out with 'In bed with Madonna' She always wore what she wanted, change her hair, do her own thing. I think right now, we just have a closer, continuous feed of EVERYTHING she does. I wouldn't call any of this cheesy, she had corny moments but that's along her long career no just now. I found it cheesier when she became an English lady, wrote children books and had all of these photos were she looks like Lady Di cousin. Not in a negative way, was a phase, she decided to go through and developed that persona.

  5. She didn't become anything in particular. It seems you just stopped liking her - or liking her as much as you did before. And that's OK, we all change. I agree with you though there was a shift in 2013-2014 when she started looking at her past and referencing herself for the first time. The Super Bowl "happy faces", while she was playing safe, no doubt, have always been there since "Holiday"! Part of her "making people happy" performance face: Super Bowl was a huge celebration so she was playing that game.

  6. one of the most impressive things about her that I admire a lot is that she's constantly thinking out of the box, sometimes it works, sometimes could be confusing but she never let us down and her art down..after MadameX im 100% positive she will always deliver (forms of art, passion about kids and charities, initiatives) until she physically cant anymore <3

  7. I’ve been thinking the same thing. There’s that and also someone else mentioned that it could be the fact that it’s a one off thing. She is a perfectionist and those nerves could be from someone a little anxious that it isn’t a performance they’ve settled into, it’s not a perfectly well tuned tour performance. So many factors. Nerves are a funny thing. A few years ago I was doing a musical, 8 shows a week for 6 months. It got to a point where the show just happened. Go on stage, go off stage. It actually bothered me that I wasn’t just a little bit nervous when I went on stage a few months in. It’s always exciting performing, don’t get me wrong! So you do get comfortable. But when it’s a one time deal then nerves run high, anxiety, you often don’t remember what just happened after the fact - it’s quite surreal. For me it was quite awful watching her fall off those steps at the Brits. I honestly don’t think she was pissed off or mad at that time. I think it terrified her and that entire performance no matter how hard she pushed through it with a smile, she wanted it to end right there. You could see the wheels turning in her head and she frantically thinking ok keep going keep going. And she fucking nailed it. woo! What were we talking about again? Lol

  8. This is no coincidence going up the same day as Madonnas superbowl performance. Also that car was giving me Beautiful Stranger and also Dua Lipa album cover so Maybe we are gonna get a guest appearance from Dua as a mash up with Physical / Blinding by the lights and then Madonna & Missy doing Levitating?

  9. Exactly. Something has definitely changed. I get it that often things can go wrong on live tv, that she doesn’t dance as much as she used to, or that she probably even experienced technical difficulties at Eurovision (at least I’d like to think so). But the accumulation of bad tv moments have been a bit overwhelming, personally. For a woman that claims to be so much of a perfectionist, at this point, even she should realise her performances have been a bit weird and way below her standards. Plus, am I the only one who has felt/noticed that Madonna has become increasingly nervous/uncomfortable on stage? I notice this particularly when she performs in front of “the industry”. Of course, the opposite happens when she performs for her fans. Then she just becomes a complete tyrannical bitch LOL (she would say she’s just being funny and ironic, for sure haha).

  10. She referred to herself as "The Queen" way before MDNA, just watch "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret". It's always done with a wink as far as I can tell but people may take it as they wish. She's been self-referential as far back as "Causing a Commotion", perhaps not as overtly as on Rebel Heart but it's there. Madame X Tour was the most beautiful show and my favourite time seeing her live - she never sounded better, she was vulnerable and more human than I've ever seen her and I feel incredibly lucky I was able to be there. I get that the show wasn't to everyone's liking but there certainly was nothing "cheesy" about it.

  11. This is interesting. From my point of view, our relationship with the Hollywood world has changed for the worst: singers, actors and actresses are required to be pretty, cute, impeccable and with no strange ideas in their heads and obviously they must be our clowns, who are demanded to please everyone, without disctintion, even if this means they have to hide themselves. Social media gave us the illusion we can influence other lives, we can control the life of celebrities, because, as I wrote above, they are expected to be exactly what we want them to be. This is a form of slavery. Another thing is that we live in a world where everything must be perfect, no one is allowed to make mistakes or people will be ready to judge you and drag you, with no esitation, ferociously. I mean, we can disagree with what we see or listen to, but I've never seen this amount of toxicity about someone or something. It's clear that our society needs a scapegoat where we should be allowed to focus all our frustration on, but today it's too much. The "victim" of this toxic system won't escape this game unless she/he chooses to disappear from the scene (that's why I hate legacies acts, they're the most evident example of the moment when an artist decides to interrupt the game and resigne his/herself to the fate the society has reserved to his/her). This is a form of torture. I could enumerate lots of performances from current starlets that aren't worth the half of what her performances are worth, but people, since 1982, will still focus their fears, their anger on her and other ones. That's the game. But hey, younger generations are better than her: I'll never understand how people can find interesting current mainstream artists, they're the pale copies of who are actually derided because they're too old to offer something meaningful to this silly planet. I don't mean I don't like actual songs, but we can't pretend we have the new MJ or the new Madonna or the new Prince, they're on a league of their own. All this pamphlet didn't mean I like everything she did through her career, but it's a resigned observation of how we approach to other people. P.S Form me her most cheesy moment is her Confessions era: you can't release Confessions on a Dancefloor after American Life, it's a crime. But, you know, you're only a clown in your fans' hands. After she gave the general public what they wanted form her, suddenly she was in the way and people turned their back to her, no matter what she has done in the last 15 years. P.P.S I preferred when social networks didn't exist, when you could see you favorite artist only on the cover of a magazine and you could read their thoughts and inner feelings only in detailed interviews.

  12. Just realised that this performance and the subsequent MDNA Tour were the rare occasion in the last 20 years where she changed her creative team a bit and had fresh ideas. I still think the MDNA Tour is the best thing she's done since the Confessions era.

  13. She's just changed. For better or for worse, we can't blame her for changing. It's what we all do. Sure I wish she was still the Blond Ambition-era Madonna who could do no wrong, but she's not that person anymore. I put most of the changes in her personality down to having children and spending all her time with them, some of it to age and some of it to divorce but we'll never know for sure. I'd rather she be herself even if it's cheesy than pretend to be something she's not.

  14. I absolutely love this performance. At 53 she was killing it! Even after a slip at the back of the bleachers, she recovered with such grace only to flow with command into cartwheels and midair splits...all this in impressively high-heeled boots. We don’t cherish her incredible stamina enough! She’s amazing. I understand why people might be disappointed by her not singing live, but I’ve personally reached a point with Madonna where I have heard her sing live enough to know what she is capable of, and sometimes not capable of. She is an Olympian performer, but she is not an Olympian vocalist. Under the right circumstances, Madonna can sing quite magnificently. When there isn’t a lot of rehearsal, or when it’s a one-off performance, Madonna seems to get quite nervous. While she pulled off her two Oscar performances with mastery, she was clearly nervous as fuck! She’s got incredible courage! She pushes through that and channels it into her physical performance. But sometimes that can, and has gone wrong. We saw what happened at Eurovision. We also saw what she was capable of at the Met Gala. It’s a risk that can’t really be taken when the audience is as big as The SB, or EV for that matter. Madonna is scrutinized for everything. Even as diminished as her fame seems to have become in recent years, Madonna still incurs something intense and visceral in people. This makes her a public punching bag far too often. It’s always been the case. I sometimes wonder if it isn’t on me to recognize that I’m ageist simply because I feel the criticism is worse now than it used to be. It means I see something more fragile in Madonna as an older woman, which is probably not how she wants to be perceived at all! Food for thought. AMAZING! I was thrilled to see this uploaded to her channel!

  16. Nothing is live. There is a studio version of the. Whole set that proofs that everything is prerecorded and later used as playback on stage.

  17. Okay so NOW that we're all talking about it, and I'm sure there's been a thread about it way back, how would y'all change it? Different songs, more songs, different opening...? What's the tea? Personally I think Music was too long, but I LOVED how well Party Rock went with it. I think that should have opened with the song Music as a mashup, giving more room for other inclusions. Get rid of the Open Your Heart/EY part. MDNA tour's Papa Don't Preach was probably shorter lol. Personally I would have loved to hear Into the Groove or close with Hung Up or Holiday (as per usual Madonna fashion). Opening with Vogue I think was perfect.

  18. everyone to their opinion but i dont think shes changed at all. i have absolutely luved the last eras. superbowl was definitely not cheesy to me. Stars just arent on a pedestal like they used to be. fame can be achieved with a tik tok video. She has done things in the 80s. 90s, 2000's as well that didnt go over too well. Its just they fade with time. She always stays true to herself whether people like it or not.

  25. I saw it twice and enjoyed it so much. Felt like I was seeing a show on the scale of Blond Ambition. My friend came with me to the Edinburgh show and was wowed by the show. The record was a misfire but the tour was stunning.

  26. The only bad thing from MDNA Tour, was the actul record. The show was amazing and saved it. I also think, that with years, I like the show more than before!

  27. I can understand your feelings, I think the same. Lately I'm more worried when a performance of her is announced, than excited. She did good things in the last 10 years though. Superbowl, All the Rebel Heart promo performances (including the Brits one), and also Billboard with Maluma.

  29. Her entire Instagram profile Madame X Tour beer moments, interludes and the majority of the Fado club section and the staging as a whole Her single artworks, especially from MDNA and onwards, and the atrocious PhotoShop job for Madame X standard (black hair) and the guitar black hair deluxe edition. Her tardiness at tours and acting like it’s some cool joke that everyone should be okay with The way she humiliates fans numerous times during Madame X Tour, especially The atrocious pricing of her recent low quality items from a glorified tour book for $225 to a $5 straw hat sold for $400 to the child scribbling paintings for $2000.

  30. The problem is Madonna’s standards for quality nowadays are a far cry from her perfectionism during Ray of Light, so it’s not like any of these delays are to ensure the perfection of the work or a brilliant vision or anything..

  31. The only thing pre-recorded about Gaga's was the intro I think, otherwise fully live. I think J-Lo and Shakira were both pre-recorded vocals.

  32. If that’s true, it would be the best decision she’s ever made. We survived the mediocrity of everyone she collaborated with and not even on songs as good as their catalogues, let alone here, so perhaps if The Weeknd thing is real, it would at least be her first collaboration with one artist worth something and actually knows something about putting on a show, a music video and a hood song.

  34. When I saw it that night, I was very let down by the lipsynch. Rewatching it today, I appreciate the magic of the performance: the incredible sets and themes, the lights and projections, the perfect setlist, the choreographies, the guests, the glamourous look and makeup.

  39. The weed stuff kinda humanized her for me. We have all heard the stories of her smoking weed and doing drugs in the early 80's, but she was always against it when asked. I found this to be one of the most authentic posts she's done in a long time.

  41. The first one for me was when she was on Letterman in 94 and she was going to read her Top 10 and then wouldn't. She'd clearly prepared it and was ready to do it - and then backed-down, felt she wasn't in control of the situation. I'm not sure she knew if she was "cool" or just being crass and making an ass of herself. The next cringey moment for me was when she was telling the audience at the Bedtime Story Pajama Party to shut up so she could read them the storybook she brought. Why would a group club full of young people want to sit quietly while this old lady read them a story book? It's those little disconnects.. made the whole thing lame. I think Rosie once told Arsenio or someone that Madonna's parties always sucked because she'd want to play word games or some sort of game .. but she'd be serious and everyone else was like, "what?"..

  44. Her management is so out of touch with reality that they think a theater tour with zero promo from streams will still generate good sales if they spend 2 more years until they release it. They need to put it on Netflix or release it on BluRay like yesterday if they want it to get some success and relevancy.
