  1. I'm sorry but there's nothing groundbreaking in this. I'm totally fine with cosmetic surgery and I'm sure Madonna started doing things to her face back in the late 90's, her body her choice indeed. Also, i'm totally fine with woman of any age exploring their bodies, Grace Jones is 70+ and was topless on her last tour bursting with confidence and defiance. BUT when your face becomes paralyzed, your lip line distorted and your breasts and ass are out of human proportions that's borderline body dysmorphia, It is not groundbreaking to see a woman do that and scream "yaaaas queen". Madonna was a game changer, she was in control of herself and her narrative. It's sad that she took a different road to the women before her but end up in the same place after all...

  2. I’m sorry, I love the woman….as do all of us here. I don’t recognize who this is. Everything that was cool about Madonna is gone nowadays. She has zero confidence and tries SO hard. She looked absolutely absurd tonight. Like an overinflated balloon sex doll. I don’t get who she’s trying to appeal to. She seems so…lost. I feel really sad for her. That divorce and the aftermath ruined her.

  3. I...did not expect so many negative reactions in this thread. I thought the opening sequence was brilliant. The nod to New York City, the classic "$35 dollars and a dream" story and watching all those iconic videos displayed at once in Times Square really put into context everything she has achieved in the past 40 years. It dawned on me that it will never be another megastar like Madonna and once again, it remind me of the sheer magnitude of her legacy. As for the actual appearance, I respect that she took the time out of her day to give MTV some credit. The cheering from the Gen Z crowd - that most definitely wasn't old enough to experience her peak - was almost like a victory lap. They might not know much about her career but they sure know she is a living legend. And there she is, four decades later, still dressed in typical Madonna fashion, only older and more experienced. She's no longer 'like a virgin' but a seasoned industry veteran. Not an ambitious 'lucky star' but an indisputable icon. It made me feel weirdly nostalgic and I'm so grateful to still have her around because the thought of a world without Madonna is sad. Having Cyndi in the same building only added up to the nostalgia, even when admittedly I wasn't old enough to experience the 80s. I expected most fans to recognize the cultural importance of this 40th career anniversary but instead, most comments go from off topic criticism (the quality of her music in the past 10 years) to personal attacks (divorce did a number on her, her lack of confidence, her plastic surgery) and plain offensive assumptions (she is a raging alcoholic or has a drug problem because of her Instagram posts). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we should all be sycophants "Yasss Queen"-ing at her every move move but you know what year is it? It's 2021. Madonna is not longer a chart-topping pop star but a legacy act. She’s one of the few lucky survivors from the MTV era. From now on, physically demanding tours will be more infrequent and her brand will mostly focus on celebrating her past achievements, with only occasional new music for her niche fanbase. I think holding her up to the same standards from 15-20 years ago is not only ridiculous but unfair. Our girl is older now. Of course she will have insecurities as an ageing sex symbol in the limelight but I don’t think she has changed that much on the inside, actually. She's still provocative and polarizing. She still refuses to be what society expects her to be. She's still passionate as ever about her newest projects. And I think that ageing on her own terms will be her last powerful statement. If you think about it, her outfit looks straight out of the Erotica era and her attention-getting ways are no different than the bratty 31 year old woman from Truth Or Dare. But I guess for some fans that behavior doesn’t look as appealing now that Madonna is 63. Too much for society being more open-minded and progressive.

  4. Bitch is still on fire and living her best life, on her own terms, at 63. She's always been this way (except for the Ritchie years, all we all know how that ended up). I mean: Classic M reveal. All the negative comments about her looks, attitude, etc. are getting tiring now. She's not gonna stop. And she's not gonna stop aging. You're not gonna see BAT Madonna, Dita, ROL Madonna, Confessions Madonna or any perfect image of her you have in your mind. That's the past. This is her now, living. If you hate so much what you see, why don't you start looking anywhere else? Let's see where all the haters are at her age. Definitely not opening the VMAs, I guess?

  5. Something else about tonight… Is Madonna starting to have substance issues? For a long time now, she’s been holding a drink in her hand in pics every chance she has, including tonight on her insta. If it’s not a drink, it’s a joint. But at least 50% of her posts nowadays do, if not more. Her speech was…off…tonight. And it’s been something a little noticeable in public events for a while now. She also tripped a teensy bit on stage if you were watching closely. Now, sure, it could be the butt or heels or clothes…but the puffiness in public events and her slight inability to get two sentences out tonight was weird. I don’t know. I’ve gotten the vibe for a while now that a lot of her Instagram behavior may be attributable to that, and tonight she just seemed off. Her expression is regularly glazed and her eyes don’t seem….how should we put this….fully alive. Again, it could just be the nip tuck but I do worry a little bit about her. Tonight just left me a little sad as a fan. Sigh. Sorry to be the downer in the thread. I know I’m in the minority here, and I’m really happy for the fans who loved tonight.

  6. I never make negative comments, especially on her body, but I hate this. She was naturally beautiful and now she's a completely different person. Why is she doing this? The filters, the lack of confidence, even the butt implants damaging her legs, why? I'm worried for her, really, she is like a totally different person, I hope she will understand one day, that she never needed surgery or to act "cooler" because she was already unique and beautiful before that. Sorry, just my irrelevant thought.

  7. I'm going to say it before the positivity police arrives and I'll leave: Why does she have to try this hard? Everything looked terribly edited and filtered; might as well do it directly on animation next time... why bother shooting at Time Squares? She couldn't say one sentence without stumble and she literally couldn't walk with those heels... I'm not going to comment on her body because what I find even sadder is that you can't see a trace of confidence in her anymore.

  8. The only reason there’s discourse is because of her seeming lack of confidence. Authentic confidence. That’s essentially what Madonna stood for her entire career. She’s done loads of things and had loads of what could be considered iffy or ugly looks in her career that would have fallen flat had they not been delivered with utter confidence and verve. if she looked like a blow up doll and still had that spunk and grit and confidence everyone would be here for it. Madonna always made the ridiculous sublime through her confidence. That’s all that’s missing, and in its place is this shell of paper thin “bitch queen artist trailblazer werq” facade. Something is 100 off behind the curated image we see. When someone is hiring some one specifically to curate even the “real” portions of her life that we see on insta that’s a little questionable. I mean some of the looks are fierce and I enjoy the playful aspect but…. She’s gone…. And I suppose that’s fine. What I do hope is that the biopic and rerelease schedules will finally canonise her and give her a sense of peace and celebration. Maybe that’s what she needs. Sadly I don’t think it’s in her nature to find total peace… which is the ending I wanted and dreamed of for her. it’s not over yet and another part of me thinks she really is leaning into those fascinating post Hollywood silver screen years. Like those ageing female titans of the Hollywood golden years. I just wish M has the bite, wit and confidence some of those ladies still seemed to have in the golden years interviews. I actually kind of want her to just go and leave peacefully and not worry about pleasing or shocking us… because it does feel like it’s for us now. And I used to like it when I felt she was on her own journey doing it for herself and we were just irrelevant spectators that she loathed. I just want her to be happy and I see it in moments with her kids but there seems like something else is missing. she’s given me so much.. too much, I want her to save some for herself.

  9. Sorry to all the haters, but this is everything. It was a romantic love letter to the company that helped make her who she was, and who she helped become who they are. No one else BUT her should/could have opened the 40th Anniversary year VMAs. She got a standing ovation, she didn't stumble on her words.. she started over because the applause was still going. (and maybe she forgot what year it was because we all lost a damn year) She did a backwards pivot in 10 inch fuck me porn star heels so she made sure not to eat the floor. and then gave the kids what they wanted. Quite possibly the only memorable moment they would see tonight. I for one am more excited than ever of what is to come from her. It's quite obvious she doesn't take life/herself/her career as serious as some of you do. Some are saying she is trying to hard, but I see it as she doesn't give a fuck. Artists are here to disturb your ideas of how things should be.

  12. Exactly - it’s like we aren’t allowed to have an opinion and get called an ageist - I love m and will always but these last few appearances have just left a bad taste in my mouth - clearly she wasn’t comfortable doing this which goes against what she is trying to prove and that it doesn’t matter how old you are you can still be sexy - yes be sexy for your boyfriend but not to a room full of tweens - let’s be honest most of that audience don’t even know who she is - oh just thought cyndi Laupers appearance was so much more classy ?

  16. Sorry, I know she can do whatever she wants, but in my opinion that was all a hot mess, awkward and to me she looked far from comfortable.

  17. HERE IT IS: MADONNA LOOKED AMAZING! WE'RE LUCKY SHE IS STILL HERE! 1) Who else to better open MTV's 40th year than "M" herself, a living legend from the MTV generation and a music legend herself, no doubt! The "M" in MTV other than MJ. 2) That opening video! I saw it on my 40 inch 4K HDTV. That shot of her walking in Times Square and multiple screens of her legendary music videos projected as she's walking. Dude it looked like the beginning of a Marvel superhero movie! 3) When she is introduced and she walks in, STANDING OVATION and screams for the one and only Queen Of Pop! Tonight was a good night for MADONNA. What truly made me happy was the audience's reception towards her even when she stumbled her words a bit. We need to look at the bigger picture and not just her bigass juicy butt. People adore and still love her, just listen to the cheers when she walked in. She looked fucking bomb too so eat it motherfuckers!

  18. That's the point though. She could look phenomenal because she was so beautiful. But she's literally ruined herself, and dressing in outfits like this monstrosity doesn't make her look brilliant for her age, it makes her look sad, no matter how pert her body is or whether she has zero wrinkles. There's nothing authentic about her now. She doesn't look like Madonna, doesn't impress like Madonna and doesn't focus on quality music like Madonna. That's what gets me down with her... even though the latter two issues I feel she could readily rectify if only she wanted to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. I love her!!! That introduction to the show was amazing!!! She is THE ICON !!!

  20. Well, she has certainly changed physically but in many ways, she is still the same. I don't look at her pre-2008 career with rose-colored glasses. As iconic and entertaining as it is, she was absolutely insufferable as a person in Truth Or Dare. Mean, rude and often insensitive. And we still loved her for it. She was a diva. Tongue-in-cheek. Bitch, she's Madonna. If that David Letterman interview happened today, I bet most fans would say she's going senile and losing the plot. Back then, she was a badass standing up for herself. Bitch, she's fucking Madonna. Today, she's being accussed of being obsessed with altering her appearance, desperately trying to remain hot, young and desirable. Again, not surprising coming from the same woman that exposed her body parts on Sex and whose biggest hit is an ode to beauty and glamour. The thing is, her narcissistic traits have always been present in her work and we usually loved her for it. I just think most fans have a problem with her latest incarnations because 1. She is much older now, hence her overt sexuality is deemed "inappropiate" and "embarrasing" 2. She is no longer the commercial force she used to be. The Guy Ritchie years are romanticized because the music was great and she was "aging gracefully" back then, as per society's standards. Well, maybe the divorce did affect her confidence. Or maybe maybe this is who she has been all along before the rise of social media. Who knows. I'm not trying to psychoanalyze Madonna. I just think it's disingenuous to label her latest behavior as "erratic" and comparing her to a literal pedophile when she has always been, eh, a little out there for most people. This was the perfect occasion to celebrate her outstanding longevity and instead, we got yet another thread about her ass. Oh well.

  21. Nerves and crowd noise aside fucking up her speech, It was a pretty good couple of mins of fun. It was supposed to be a surprise but dick fans get ahead of themselves saying they have inside knowledge. 'Shes gonna do a medley' ect, Oh get stuffed. She wasnt even announced as a guest. She showed her ass at the first awards which shocked people so whats she gonna do for this one years later??? People over analyse. She could be f'king dead like the rest of the Icons. We should bow to her not calling her an alcoholic druggy mess. She's been with a walking stick for a year then going out live in those high heels. Fans are fucking cruel. JESUS! Leave the forum, most are being reasonable but some should be ashamed.

  24. I honestly feel like the intelligent, sensitive woman with the confidence in her own ability that we used to witness completely disappeared. Sometimes I really do think the old Madonna vanished at the end of the Sticky and Sweet Tour... because from my perspective it's been in many ways a decline from there. I loved the Rebel Heart era but personality wise and as a 'celeb' she's become stranger and stranger but not in an intriguing way... it's like watching a very slow car crash and wanting someone to press the ejector seat button but for whatever reason she's maintaining the momentum of the decline. It's such a shame. I'll always love her, she's the performer of most of my favourite songs, but I can't/don't understand or warm to much that she says or posts nowadays... I feel like her spirit is lost now. That amazing soul just seems replaced by delusion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. Official photo with Doja from the interview magazine after party: She looks way more herself here than on her IG. I wish Ricardo would tone down the photoshopping just slightly, then it wouldn’t seem like she’s actively trying to pretended she’s something she’s not when we see her in ‘real life’ at events like last night. Because she looks great, she doesn’t need all the softening and face-reshaping. Also I would be very here for a Madonna & Doja collab!

  26. This. I don't get the critics defense....she was at an all time career low around the Grammys 2004 due to American Life and yet came out and stunned at that event oozing with the Madonna confidence we all know and love. She was getting called old and irrelevant back then too. She just didn't care. Your analysis on the last page was spot on. It's not the way she dresses or the looks or her being sexy and needing to act her age or any of it at all...it's that she herself doesn't even seem to fully buy this "reinvention". Like she's playing a character that isn't really true to how she feels or where she is in life right now. And for everyone going after the fans of the Ritchie years suggesting she was "aging gracefully" and in an acceptable way, you seem to forget her boobs on full display during the Britney Kiss or the Hung Up leotard practically showing her cooch. Or the fact that the "mature" Madonna phase started WAY before Guy Ritchie with I'll Remember and Bedtime Stories and Something to Remember and Ray of Light. She still was Madonna back then....and whether or not you agree with me, she felt way more authentic to herself in my opinion than anything that's happened after 2008 and leading up to where we are now.

  30. You go girl! Agree, she doesn't look confident and some proportions seem a bit unnatural, but it is her body, some thing you can control, others you cannot and tight clothes can push things around. For 63 she looks amazing. What I found the most inspiring was the crowd reaction, You could see the awe and respect from her peers as she got a standing ovation walking down the stage. She is a legend, her place in history is cemented.

  31. I think the remarks on her age throughout the later years really broke her and made her feel like she needs to look younger to appeal to general public. I know how toxic any body enhancing surgery is for anybody especially as your body starts to weaken and while it might look good at the moment, that stuff can make you SICK. I just pray for her health and that she decides to wake up and realize how gorgeous she really is and her age shouldn't matter when we talk about her. It's the performances, charisma, energy and her intellect that draws me to her and most of that is gone since the social media era had begun but so spryly comes back at the best of times. I still think she's an icon and beautiful but it shouldn't be the performative beauty that makes her make these choices.

  32. Jesus the fact that it makes a fold in her skin when she turns sideways… It must be so heavy! Like I’m not against her looking how she wants to look, but when she’s put so much effort in to recovery from her hip and knee issues, surely she’s just putting herself at risk for more problems by having that. That’s what’s annoying, is that she’s just going to end up damaging herself, when she’s always been such a stickler for being healthy and doing whatever she can to treat herself and her career right.
    7 points
  33. I’m annoyed the cameras weren’t on her when she took the coat off, that would have been a fun moment! It’s sad to see her lacking confidence in her delivery just reading the lines out though. Once upon a time we’d have felt so at ease with her owning that kind of situation. I know it’s terrible to think but it sort of makes me wish she wouldn’t put herself in these live moments, cause it makes her vulnerable.

  34. I don’t see anything wrong with her hiring Ricardo to photograph or film her for her Instagram. It’s hard to take selfies and make them look good. Everyone complained about the unflattering selfies she used to do on Instagram. It is 100% better and more professional now. Thank God for Ricardo. You are reading a lot into one appearance where she stumbled over a few words on a Teleprompter. I don’t get the idea she is not happy and not at peace. I also find it ironic that the people who constantly complain about her lacking confidence are the same people who are criticizing her 24/7. Who doesn’t lose confidence if you are always being judged and criticized? Some people are reading way too much into it. It’s a fun outrageous appearance at a show like the MTV Video Awards. It’s not a serious event. I saw an article about it in the NY Post and they were fairly positive. Sad state of affairs that fans are harsher than tabloids. Madonna has always been a mixture of confidence and awkwardness which is one of the things that makes her fascinating

  37. I don't want to talk about her look or body or ass. Some say she is always nervous on tv, but come on! It was just two lines and she wasn't able to deliver them properly. "And they said we wouldn't last". I've heard it all before. A reference so old for the old. And actually, Mtv died years ago, so... If this means the Madonna of today is like the Mtv of today...

  38. Just got on and am so surprised by some of the comments. Everyone can have a opinion but If you feel that she went down hill after Hard Candy. Geez Im not sure I would have stuck around. I think she looked incredible and saying she has no confidence and a shell of herself....hmmmm you gotta have confidence to wear something like that. Power to her I say. It takes incredible courage to go on a very youth focused show and steal the attention. Just like she has done from the start. Some things never change.

  39. YouTube comments have been kinder and more loving towards Madonna in recent years, I'm telling you! Read the comments... all LOVE from the "general public" When will a lot of members of this forum who can't focus beyond her looks and her butt do the same and just appreciate? WAKE UP, MADONNA IS STILL HERE AND WILL NOT GIVE ONE FUCK! We love you Madonna! The last of the greatest Living Legends!

  41. Turning 50 and getting divorced from Guy Ritchie damaged her more than I thought. She hasn’t been the same since. a lifetime of constructing a powerful ego that won every award, to slowly decay in front of our eyes…sad. that’s what happens when you spend your life in control, one small slip and it all falls apart.
