In late 2019, American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift came in dispute with her former record label, Big Machine Records, its founder Scott Borchetta, who sold it to Scooter Braun without Taylor's knowledge, over the ownership of the masters of her first six studio albums. 

Swift alleged that the label blocked her from using her music for the 2019 American Music Awards performance and her documentary Miss Americana (2020), while Big Machine released Live from Clear Channel Stripped 2008 (2020), an unreleased work by Swift, without her approval. Swift announced she would re-record the six albums and own the new masters herself.

oooooh this is exiciting, since I vaguely remember reading somewhere a while back that the "Now That's What I Call Music" compliations have never been allowed to include Madonna for rights reasons and I believe they kept her from getting a UK number 1 in the UK when True Blue was released though I may have that wrong. @Frankusually these compilations only include radio edits x

 In the 80s there was a rival brand called Hits, and a lot of the tracks from the rival companies - Sony, BMG and Warners - wouldn't clear for Now. We were never able to access Madonna, for example.
