Starchild reacted to Alibaba in Madonna: A Rebel Life - is it worth reading?
I initially thought it was well-researched, but there was a great deal of information left out, and it became tedious beyond the Girlie Show. There was too much of a tendency to stick to a bird’s eye view of her career, with little actual deeper research. I understand that she wanted to make it a historical account of Madonna’s life, and while it is lengthy and I am sure it took a great deal of work, there’s something lacking in the end. In the second half of Madonna’s career there is practically no insight beyond a basic timeline of publicly seen performances and interviews. The author spends far too much time recounting the details of each tour (with occasional glaring errors), barely making any effort to contextualize beyond her own personal discovery of Madonna’s work and dryly conveying what she sees, which is of no interest to fans as we have all seen the shows.
The early years are where the book succeeds…It’s a noble effort, but lacks any real depth or style, and the little attention paid to the latter part of Madonna’s career was almost insulting.

Starchild reacted to OceanBlue in RIP Idaho
Just read that Idaho passed away in early April. I'm kinda shocked. I really like many of his remixes and he was quite active forum member here.
His website: https://www.idahodesign.eu/remixes/
An interesting interview: https://holidayshare.blogspot.com/2011/03/exclusive-interview-many-faces-of-idaho.html

Starchild got a reaction from James19709 in George Michael comments on the Britney and Christina kiss
If you're a gay man who criticises George Michael, a symbol of our minority community, then the shame is on you.
You don't have to agree with his lifestyle, but to hold his personal and quite legal sexual interests against him is deplorable.

Your takes are often so off. Stop getting so defensive.
Like George, I proclaim my love for Madonna in the same breath that I might also critique her.
And this coming from the person who constantly criticises Kylie Minogue in her dedicated thread.

Let me remind you that George was self-made and wrote all of those early so-called 'stupid' songs that became smash hits.

The realest. Always.

Exactly.
By the way, George was out to his family and friends years before that cruising incident.

And? Cruising is not necessarily an act of 'desperation'. To think so is kind of homophobic.
There was no shame in George's game.

Firstly, may George, our patron gay saint of pop, rest in eternal peace. I will never stop adoring this talented soul.
Secondly, George was entitled to his opinion, which is more credible than any of ours, given his status as her peer.
Thirdly, as spectacular a pop culture moment as the kiss was, I do get what he meant and he had a point.

Starchild got a reaction from Would You Like To Try in P!NK on Madonna being a "bad ass"!
First of all, could the Xtina stans please STFU with their insidious jealousy towards P!nk because of Xtina's dwindling career?
Thanks for highlighting this supportive quote by P!nk about M. The big P!nk fans in the house know that she's been praising M since the start of her career though.
I've been a big P!nk fan since the first album (though the last few haven't been my faves, admittedly), and her mind and personality are a big part of the appeal.
She often has refreshingly unique perspectives that the average pop star is too simple or inarticulate to express, quite honestly.
By the way, if you venture into the P!nk thread, you'll see a bunch of M references there that I posted a while ago.

@chaosmen1984mk and @Anapuss
Please do not derail this topic into your personal vendettas and drama. Stick to the topic, please and thank you! Also, no one can delete posts except mods/admins, so if something was deleted it was by them not me!
And now back on topic....
I actually got the opposite feeling. I got a more family oriented more focused and insightful P!nk! I do agree her music hasn't evolved much, but it's still fun and catchy.

Starchild reacted to Magic Pussy in P!NK on Madonna being a "bad ass"!
I'm so glad to see this "bad ass" bite from Pink since the last Pink/Madonna internet headlines from her press tour was all about "Madonna doesn't like me" (the Howard Stern interview which was good but the interent ran with that bite) which was just part of a Kelly & Regis morning show set up waay back, not some real beef. I'm not a huge fan of Pink's music (IMO her voice her is better than the majority of her popular material) but I've got respect for her voice and performances, not that she cares!

Starchild reacted to McDonna in P!NK on Madonna being a "bad ass"!
Right on P!nk! Even a lesson to some of the fans. Madonna's has done plethora of "bad ass shit" that set in motion what P!nk and many women who came after Madonna are able to do. It just amazes me the remarkable career Madonna has had, and she's still not a name on the tip of the tongues of our current generation like other artists who came before her and during her time. I'm constantly amazed how people of the last couple of generations know so much about Michael Jackson, Elvis, Prince, yet know so little of Madonna. Yet, some act like they never heard of her until they are presented with a song by her and think, "Oh that was Madonna"?. So strange. Meanwhile, even though P!nk has thought that Madonna doesn't like her, she still defends her! Just another reason why I love P!nk!!! She's a "bad ass" too.

Starchild got a reaction from Alpha in For Inspiration? - Madonna's Inspiration For Her Art
This thread could easily turn into a slippery slope!

Starchild reacted to EgoRod in For Inspiration? - Madonna's Inspiration For Her Art
The Girlie Show got lots of inspiration in the choreo and costumes from musicals:
Vogue was based on the "Small House of Uncle Thomas" from The King and I
I'm going Bananas/isla Bonita part was an homage to Genes Kelly's 'Anchors Aweigh'
BBB/Like a Virgin she wears Marlene Dietrich costume from Morocco and makes a version and take of Falling in Love again from the Blue Angel.
And Justify my love is taken from My Fairs Lady Ascot scene but also borrows choreo from Sweet charity's club scene.

Starchild reacted to TheGoth in Q : Madonna music videos in cinemas ? (35mm)
We worked with Warner and Madonna's publicist to screen the Confessions tour at a cinema for the home release, back in the day. Although not a music video, it was actually pretty cool to see it that way. Can't remember if we also screened Desperately Seeking Susan or anything else. Just too long ago.

This Red dress and shoot was based on Tina Turner's Acid Queen from Tommy:

After Fincher did Vogue without giving credit to Horst, you think Mondino will be more respectful about using Guy Bourdin's work without permission or mention.
I think he said later than it was an homage and blah blah but it was a bit messy to do without attributing.

Who could also forget the inspiration behind Hollywood's MV...photographer Guy Bourdin which led to a lawsuit by his estate

Starchild reacted to Alpha in For Inspiration? - Madonna's Inspiration For Her Art
The inspiration behind Erotica/Sex is so vast but definitely an interesting one is Warhol. The graphic design was done by Fabien Baron who worked at that time for Interview magazine which was Andy's so they shared alot of the same aesthetic and graphics. Even the font used for Erotica's album cover and used in Sex was Warholian...it was actually based off Andy's mother! The album cover also seems to be based on Liza's cover on Interview. The font for Deeper and Deeper even seems to be a nod to Andy's design for the Velvet Undergroud's album.

Starchild reacted to TOpher in How much of a Madonna fan do you consider yourself?
I’m not sure how to answer this lol
total Stan to the day I die from Everybody to Confessions. After that I haven’t really liked anything she’s put out. A few songs here and there but my Madonna obsession ends with Confessions.

Starchild reacted to Alfalfa_HampusFL in How much of a Madonna fan do you consider yourself?
Can not place myself in a scale... been following Madonna for about 40 years... but I am not interested in every aspect of her life... and mostly follow her for the music...
