I think after the last few years of turmoil Kylies brand of escapism pop was just the ticket actually. The DISCO project doesn’t wash away any of the problems we face as a world community but it was great to switch off for 54 minutes. Clubbing and dancing and friends and family and even strangers have been out of the picture for the best part of a year. Escapism in other humans and the dancefloor has been sorely missed. Kylie was just the frivolous ticket for me personally and while I agree there’s absent references to the historical importance of Disco, sometimes holding a book on the dancefloor gets in the way of my boogie shoes and double hand claps.
Im a good woke boy but sometimes the basic white gay jumps out... and that’s permissible too.

This website and the concept of dynamic ranges and the story of the loudness wars SHOULD be taught in ALL schools! Mandatory education starting at age 5.

I think the Daily Mail headline is clickbait-y and I don't think she's "blaming" Madonna at all. What I took from this was that she wanted to be like Madonna when she was a popstar because she looked up to her so much, but the difference was Billie was a teenager (15 when she started). This lead to her being oversexualized by the industry before she was even 18, and she's spoken in lengths about having traumatic experiences behind the scenes during those times. She's not blaming Madonna for that.
She clearly doesn't having a problem expressing her sexuality as an adult, i.e. Secret Diary of a Call Girl, but it's different when record execs were pushing her, a teenage girl at the time, to be more sexual.

This is a terrible experience trying to pick ONE of these songs as a favorite. I ended up with Express Yourself, though it was a rough one.

I died. I had a friend with DSL, which was very rare around our area at the time, she downloaded it for kicks expecting it to be some joke or just random musings, but neither of us expected this. It was a genius moment, really.

And every time a download would stop, it was anywhere between 95-98% complete. By the time you could get connected again you'd reach a bandwidth quota for the day. Infuriating. I remember calling a few people I knew on our ISP and asking if they'd mind not being on the internet for about 45 minutes while a 3.5mb RealAudio file attempted to download. Most of the time it would take days and countless attempts for one three minute song to successfully complete. MP3s were a different nightmare. Quality be damned, there wasn't time for that....

OMG those old connections, with your telephone number, so slow. They stopped everytime and you had to start the download all over again.
Like when you had to buy the concert tickets in person. I went to the National Bank to buy the BAT ones.
Those times you still had to find out the lyrics on your own. It was so hard fir me to understand some lines of Supernatural. No to mention Did you do it..
And it was not easy to find those leaked files, at least not for me.
    Seems like another world.

As I said already when we first heard the snippets, those demos are great, and they push us to re-evaluate Pat Leonard's contribution. If you listen to Frozen, the magic was already there. The final version is way better - better sounds, better new lyrics - but still the demo shows a new direction for Madonna. Same for Sky fits heaven. IMO Be careful is a lot more interesting, with its verses, than the dull released duet. Orbit has the merit of producing a very cohesive album with a great, modern sound, but he found a really solid base to work on.
But that's how it should always be and that's what is missed in the last albums: Madonna writing songs with great musicians (she writes interesting lyrics and they provide great melodies, and doesn't just choose material written for her by 10 writers) and then chooses one great producer to blend everything in a unique album and a unique sound.

Yes. There's an spontaneity to them, but then I think any demo from any artist has those same qualities. In Madonnaa's case, her demos are sometimes better than the final versions. And let's not forget that Into the groove IS a demo that was ultimately released.
Which is great about demos is that they bring the possibility of contrast, so both versions can be appreciated differently. We are inclined, I don't know really why, to favour the demos. Maybe is it because we think they're more "real"? Or more "indie"?
IMO, Nothing really matters is melodically better as much as No subtitute for love. Be careful is great. I wouldn't be too sure about the other tracks. She seems uncertain of which  direction to take. It's jazzy sometimes.
Thanks a lot for sharing this.
