When several artists come together to make a song, the order in which their names will be placed in the credits is usually decided based on their popularity or significance. That is why the first places will be reserved for the most important and successful artists while the last places will go to those artists of less importance or those who lack global impact.

An example of this is the song Lady Marmalade where Christina Aguilera, PInk, Lil Kim and Maya participated. The first place in the credits was naturally reserved for Christina Aguilera who was the most important and the most successful of that group because of her beautiful and wonderful records. The second place in the credits went to PInk and the last places to the other two singers whose fame, presence and global impact could not be compared to that of Christina Aguilera. This order in the credits, by the way, was respected in all the charts and in all the music channels worldwide.

Having said this, I can't understand what is the justification for putting Madonna in the last place of the credits of this beautiful song. As a fan I find it disrespectful that Madonna is named after Plaiboi CArti as if he were more important or transcendent than her. I don't know if this error was intentional or an inexcusable oversight on the part of The Weeknd, but it makes me angry to see that even on charts, like Billboard for example, they also put Madonna's name in last place, thus detracting from her legacy.

Fortunately there are exceptions such as the case of Dua Lipa or Quavo who had the good sense to put Madonna in second place in the credits of their respective songs. Because the recognition towards a legend like Madonna is shown even in those small details. And it's not just Madonna's fans who appreciate it, because I'm sure that, even if she doesn't express it openly, Madonna herself does too.

If this is actually true, was GMAYL that featured MIA before Nicki Minaj, implying that Nicki lacked global impact? She had blown up the year before with the release of Super Bass, had a spectacular feature on the most acclaimed album of the decade and then went on to become the Queen of Rap. MIA had a huge hit of course with Paper Planes and Bad Girls maybe but she wasn't even the star of GMAYL the way miss Minaj was.

EDIT: MIA is only first on the video title. On her website Nicki is mentioned first. Perhaps they changed it after the release of the video and before the album came out.

I've checked and that bio is uploaded by the artist/team, so not really. If her and/or her press team want to say that there's not much no one can do about it - except for being corrected on social media, etc.

It happened with TLC too. For YEARS all their official bios bragged about them being the biggest selling female group ever, period. And that's not true. They were the biggest selling female group IN the US. Worldwide it was the Spice Girls, of course. Now TLC say it like it is: "we were the biggest selling female group in this country", bla, bla, but it took them years.

In the end it's all hype, so who cares.

Watch it become a K-Pop girl band that none of us will know a single song of that's gonna outsell the Spice Girls in a few years.

Like you, I had never heard them until this while collab came up.  I am pleasantly surprise with what I hear.   Madonna definitely sounds theatrically awesome on "Lick the Light Out".

I stand in your heart/ just next to your lungs/ you smoke too much/ do you want to chase me away?

I'm here/ breathing through your mouth/ seeing with your heart/ loving through your flesh :broken:

  4. OMG the whole song slaps and I want Madonna to scream SAY OUR FUCKING NAMES at me!

Sure she'll be in the video in some form, she's a very important part of the song. Like Nicki Minaj was in the BIM video, on the screen which I thought was a very smart idea. If not, I want a drag queen impersonating a furious Madonna. That would be something to watch!

Don't get me wrong.  I still think Vulgar will makes some waves.  I'm just worried about the "replayable value" and the possibility radio will be less inclined to play it.  Being it leaked, and most of the fans already have it, that will definitely kill the streaming chances.

But like you, I'm glad they made it.  It's a fun and campy song.  I just wish it didn't leak.

Back That Up was out for years. Yes To Heaven by Lana was out for years. So apparently it's how you reintroduce your music to the public. Personally I don't know where to find the whole song yet but it doesn't really matter whether the fans have it when the fans who still care are like two hundred :silly:

As for the radio idk, I live in a non English speaking country where they don't care as much about the lyrical content. Started off my teens listening to Rihanna's S&M on heavy rotation. I think I will be hearing it this one too here :kissy:

  6. Sometimes we gotta have faith in the songs. She could release another Hung Up today and we'd all be worried whether it would get streamed enough. Vulgar is exactly the song I'd expect those two to make. It makes an impact and it's of very replayable value. Even if it doesn't make a single wave in the charts, I'm really happy they made it. I trust it will do good though.

“Popular” is currently on pace for a Top 50 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 - Her first entry since 2015's "Bitch I'm Madonna"!

Please keep streaming and buy the song if you want it to go Top 40 :)

So happy for her return to the chart.

But idk, was expecting it to end up kinda higher after all the buzz. Anyway, a longer lifespan on the charts is more important than a big first week firework. Let's hope for the latter. We'll see over time.

Faz Gostoso really was the single that got away.  Could have been the next la isla Bonita the way it’s streams were up

Madonna has always known how to transform any song she decides to cover. Faz Gostoso was straight up fire 🔥 And I don't think it represents the album less than Crave does. But I understand why she would push for her originals. Even though the excuse about running out of cash for a Faz Gostoso music video has always baffled me.

Is Vulgar even trending on TikTok?

To answer your question, from what I can see, Sam's verse has been used in just 300 videos and Madonna's in 229. That's still very few. By contrast, Back That Up has been used as a sound for almost 27,5 thousand videos, La Isla Bonita 206k and Frozen Remix along with Material Girl a staggering 1,2-1,3M videos. But it's still too early I guess. Once it's been properly released we'll definitely see bigger numbers.

None of the singles she’s released since 2015 had any hit potential . Some were honestly the worst things she’s ever done (eg Material Gworrrl)

A Super Mario movie song charted on Billboard with a chorus saying Peaches peaches peaches peaches peaches. Taylor Swift sent a 10 minute song to number one. So what is even hit potential anymore?

Madonna released only one album's singles since 2015 and it wasn't supposed to be very commercial. The other singles were reworks of something. Have Rihanna release Crave and Beyoncé release IDSIF in 2019. Bam you got two hit potentials.

  11. I believe it's unfair to call Madonna's latest music of lower quality, hence the lack of interest from the public. Every kind of shit is charting today, especially in the US. Madonna is making as good a music as every main pop girl but she gotta try extra hard and create something phenomenal to even raise one eyebrow from the GP.

Poor single choices maybe, poor promotion too but please she makes beautiful music that no one wants an old woman make.

Whist I enjoy both tracks there will be blood if any of her bonfide hits get set aside on tour for Frozen On Fire, Material Gworl, Hung UOT, Vulgar, Popular or BTUTTB.

The first three could be used as mash ups with their originals, so they wouldn't need to hog an entire slot on their own. And maybe a new song as an interlude.

I hope Skyrock, the biggest and most famous urban french radio will play it. They play The Weeknd so we'll see if they play it. I had and argument with them when "4 minutes" has been released, cause they refused to play it while they were playing everything about Timbaland and Timberlake. I called them and asked why and they said it's because she was 50yo, and i replied that they were playing the last collabs of Michael Jackson with Akon and that he was also 50 yo, and they didn't know what to say. Some fans websites reported about my phone call to Skyrock and soon after they started to play Give it 2 me ! Little victory ! Will i have to call them again this time ?! We'll see ! Although this time i do not have the argument that they play any other 64yo singer 😂

Myléne Farmer whom I like to label as the French Madonna is 61, isn't she? It would be criminal if they didn't play her now due to age. She is very prolific and still makes good music. Hope you won't have to make any calls this time!

I think it’s ok - I would have liked more vocals from her maybe some back vocals but just one verse feels like a wasted opportunity imo - I don’t know who the others singer is - I’m guessing some rapper but he sounded crap

You realize that besides the first chorus she is singing along the Weeknd on every other one, right? So luckily it's not just that one verse. I needed more of her own vocals too though
