  1. No @Joseebus @MattyMads ...you'll be pleased to hear it's the Dita gold tooth from the erotica days (looks great)...so no lispy grills.
  2. Debrief: 2nd show for me after the London opener - which was spectacular due to all the unknowns. Nice to be standing and up close because you get a different dimension entirely --seeing and hearing loads of stuff you wouldn't otherwise. Facial expressions and dancers shouting etc (watching her getting in the zone before ray of light was a moment). Madge singing to Martin Burgoyne's image had me very choked up (as did that whole segment). Especially since I've just been reading about that phase of her life - he seemed like such a lovely club kid (knew EVERYONE on the downtown scene and had such a tragic end). This one was a bit special/sad because before Mother Father she told a little story about David's adoption...his mum died in childbirth (?) and he was raised by an 8 yr old sister. Sadly his sister died of AIDS yesterday (same day as gig!). Seeing him on stage looking all vulnerable and responding to her was extremely moving. It was also the anniversary of the Bataclan shooting, so that was poignant also. Uppers and downers for nuance only - loved every second. Uppers: * Started early and ended just after midnight - over two hours! (I think it's because she had some tech issues the night before). * Crowd was really good (feisty when I went to the loo though - nearly lost my spot!). * Really pleased I've had the experience of seated AND floor because you get ALL of the view in seats but none of the mayhem. This is a show you need to see at least twice. * Watching an interlude and Madge suddenly shooting out of the stage in her Versace cat suit - all dramatic and only meters away...takes your breath away! :-0 * She looked amazing and was all smiles - in a great mood. * Sounded even better - kept checking if she was actually live as her voice was almost too on point...but her voice momentarily cracked during Like a prayer. Fantastic to hear some bone fide live vocals instead of pre-records and endless tracking. * You can tell when she's enjoying herself because she gets all chatty during numbers. It was slightly amusing when she flipped out because the stage was wet during erotica. * Went out for a beer - found a Madonna glitter station (lol) - came back all "hiiii!" * The erotica/Dita gold tooth was back. * Helga plaits during the cowboy bit - looked great. That outfit has grown on me --looks really expensive up close. * Fave numbers: Open your heart (so great and old skool!), Like a prayer (best version since blond ambition), La Isla Bonita was nice, Ray of light was just incredible - even better than I remember from the O2. She's giving so much attitude up there. Flicking her hair all over the place etc. Sent me over the edge. Downers: * Panto ensemble outfits that look more parody than clubby (dancers that is). * Strange styling during interludes, a LOT of fabric thrown together fancy dress style - a bit Cher and incoherent in places. The JPG moments more than make up for this though! * No clue who the Vogue guest was - anyone? * The ending - really extra and fun. She's frankly hilarious and having a REALLY good time up there. However, the dubious choice of song and accompanying outfits look more like a west end tribute show than a high end Madonna gig. * Didn't need the Evita interlude. * Screaming kids on the Eurostar home this morn. It really was a momentous occasion. A great retrospective / SO perfect for now and I feel like she gives so much more of herself here than in previous outings.
  3. Hello all - can a kind soul upload this rejected script for me? I fancy a read. Thanks!
  4. Nonsense. Again - levelling transphobia at someone doesn't have to mean they're a malevolent human. It just means that in his island universe of opinion, Chapelle doesn't feel trans rights are human rights. Terf isn't an insult either - it's just a literal translation of a type of modern feminism that excludes the trans identity. Vulnerability and empathy are entirely separate traits that can coexist. They don't serve to invalidate this claim.
  5. I suspect this was prior to hearing this specific wave of terf comments. Plus he's quite sycophantic and evangelical about Madonna in the cut - she probably loved that!
  6. It's all about Contrapoints. I'm far too old to give a shit about influencers - but I'm completely hooked on her vids. I loved her previous analysis of the term, "facts don't care about feelings"...She also navigates conversations around biology really well. Pure brilliance and one of the only reasons to love the digital age.
  7. I don't see a wider conversation about cancel culture though. I see the trans community + allies critiquing a viewpoint. The distraction technique of the alt-right is and always has been to cry 'cancel culture'. Many of these influencer types are behaving like absolute melts, unable to engage in any kind of reasoned discourse. "Thin skin" being one such example.
  8. I agree with most points here...other than "I don't think David Chapelle is transphobic." I get what's meant by this, but it's important to deconstruct what transphobia means, along with the forms it can present in. It doesn't necessarily need to mean direct anger/abuse/insults... Transphobia is fear of the trans agenda and what it represents. Indirect transphobia includes spouting comments that cause harm, even without the express/surface intent to do so. I've experienced indirect homophobia millions of times in the form of tiny micro-aggressions. An example could be, "I LOVE the gays but i don't think they should be able to marry in churches simply because religion states that this kind of union should be between man and woman." (etc yawn). David Chapelle is transphobic. But this doesn't necessarily mean he needs to be a social pariah - it just means he needs challenging; publicly, loudly and repeatedly.
  9. Great question....and there are no shoulds. ...but this is a community that needs allies. Plus the exclusionary conversations around trans people (privileged people discussing what rights you should have in the next room etc) mirror the 90s era of homophobia almost exactly. DC shouldn't be cancelled - indeed, he hasn't and will probably never be cancelled. Neither have trans people got 'thin skin' as he puts it. The trans narrative is one of survival...you have to be pretty hardcore to deal with that! He does however need to be publicly challenged (and repeatedly). There's nothing more annoying than successful people with HUGE fan bases and 100,000's of followers on social media complaining about being cancelled (JK Rowling for one). It's also lazy "comedy" because he's not talking about lived experience. This is a great youtube on the subject (just replace Ricky Gervais with David Chapelle): Madonna may be a trans ally and staunch supporter of gay and women's rights but she's been fairly quiet around trans politics. I'd love to hear her speak up - whilst allowing Dave Chapelle to fail. Dialogue is important after all!...and he's got it very wrong on this occasion.
  10. I attended - three times. The show was amazing in person - loved it every time. The autotune however? Unforgivable/cheap/crap sounding...Robot sounds create distance - especially during community numbers like Batuka. I want raw vocals.
  11. I can't believe I only just got around to seeing it! It's a 6.5 out of 10 from me. I liked it! It's a grower - got MUCH better as it went on. Huge disappointment at first. I watched Bjork at the Albert Hall this week and the simplicity of it made me feel like I'd been to an intimate gig. It allowed me to focus on the subtleties of the performance. There's something about all the overlays/effects of Madame X that make me feel like I'm millions of miles away from the show. Constant prescribed camera angles take away any kind of agency in how you want to view things. I felt like one of those poor foie gras ducks. Also - I normally get annoyed with her documentary segments but this needed it because there was SO much to talk about. No backstage footage??! So we never hear about her early curfews, injury problems and Covid shutdown. Massive missed opportunity imo. Negatives:That pirate panto costume and the fact that she comes out autotuned (unforgivable - even if it is a stylistic choice).I found God Control completely unwatchable due to the edit (my eyes actually hurt) and Dark Ballet was just plain weird (not in a good way). Sometimes she appears to be lip syncing the autotune which made me feel ridiculously far away from the experience. The footage is often from a different night than the vocal you're actually hearing. Thankfully this improves after the opener. Positives:Human nature was beautiful - I'd love to have seen it. The muted jazz trumpet works beautifully and the shadow puppets are ace. She manages to look gorgeous and the spoken word segments, whilst clumsily patchworked from loads of nights (losing intimacy), are quite funny. Batuka vocoder creates distance ruining the community feel of the song. Killers who are partying is my fave of the night - and of the film (and the album). The simplicity is great and I love the composition. Crazy vocals sound nice and it's nice to be reminded of the brilliance of Medellin (such at atmospheric number). The laboured breathing during the Rescue Me part takes on a new meaning with Covid (!). Come Alive looks incredible on the screen but the vocals are held back and anything but live. I love the version of future and the finale works well - I forgot how beautiful that Versace dress was! She nailed it in places and I'm pleased the warmth of the Fado bit translated to the screen. My two penneth!
  12. Oh no! That's actually really sad. No ones fault really, but autism is a really misunderstood condition. Small changes in routine (especially removal of essential items like watches) without pre-established rules can be agonising. What looks like aggression is a genuine inability to understand the situation. Hope he was ok and someone came forward to reset the boundaries and settle his mind.
