No @Joseebus @MattyMads ...you'll be pleased to hear it's the Dita gold tooth from the erotica days (looks great)...so no lispy grills.

    Debrief:

2nd show for me after the London opener - which was spectacular due to all the unknowns.

Nice to be standing and up close because you get a different dimension entirely --seeing and hearing loads of stuff you wouldn't otherwise. Facial expressions and dancers shouting etc (watching her getting in the zone before ray of light was a moment).

Madge singing to Martin Burgoyne's image had me very choked up (as did that whole segment). Especially since I've just been reading about that phase of her life - he seemed like such a lovely club kid (knew EVERYONE on the downtown scene and had such a tragic end).

This one was a bit special/sad because before Mother Father she told a little story about David's adoption...his mum died in childbirth (?) and he was raised by an 8 yr old sister. Sadly his sister died of AIDS yesterday (same day as gig!). Seeing him on stage looking all vulnerable and responding to her was extremely moving. It was also the anniversary of the Bataclan shooting, so that was poignant also.

Uppers and downers for nuance only - loved every second.

    Uppers:
    * Started early and ended just after midnight - over two hours! (I think it's because she had some tech issues the night before).
    * Crowd was really good (feisty when I went to the loo though - nearly lost my spot!).
    * Really pleased I've had the experience of seated AND floor because you get ALL of the view in seats but none of the mayhem. This is a show you need to see at least twice.
    * Watching an interlude and Madge suddenly shooting out of the stage in her Versace cat suit - all dramatic and only meters away...takes your breath away! :-0
    * She looked amazing and was all smiles - in a great mood.
    * Sounded even better - kept checking if she was actually live as her voice was almost too on point...but her voice momentarily cracked during Like a prayer. Fantastic to hear some bone fide live vocals instead of pre-records and endless tracking.
    * You can tell when she's enjoying herself because she gets all chatty during numbers. It was slightly amusing when she flipped out because the stage was wet during erotica.
    * Went out for a beer - found a Madonna glitter station (lol) - came back all "hiiii!"
    * The erotica/Dita gold tooth was back.
    * Helga plaits during the cowboy bit - looked great. That outfit has grown on me --looks really expensive up close.
    * Fave numbers: Open your heart (so great and old skool!), Like a prayer (best version since blond ambition), La Isla Bonita was nice, Ray of light was just incredible - even better than I remember from the O2. She's giving so much attitude up there. Flicking her hair all over the place etc. Sent me over the edge.

    Downers:
    * Panto ensemble outfits that look more parody than clubby (dancers that is).
    * Strange styling during interludes, a LOT of fabric thrown together fancy dress style - a bit Cher and incoherent in places. The JPG moments more than make up for this though!
    * No clue who the Vogue guest was - anyone?
    * The ending - really extra and fun. She's frankly hilarious and having a REALLY good time up there. However, the dubious choice of song and accompanying outfits look more like a west end tribute show than a high end Madonna gig.
    * Didn't need the Evita interlude.
    * Screaming kids on the Eurostar home this morn.

It really was a momentous occasion. A great retrospective / SO perfect for now and I feel like she gives so much more of herself here than in previous outings.

It was annoying but this debate pales into insignificance when put next to Rebel Heart which is completely unwatchable and cringeworthy.
She really showed a human side on Rebel Heart and it was really accessible to watch live. The DVD however just looks horribly sanitised and over processed/headachey.

Watched the Blaire White video as well, and as usual, she always takes the stance of "I'm not like the other trans, please accept me". She will always default to what the majority of clueless and/or bigoted people think because that's where she gets her views from. She will never, ever say anything that goes against the status quo. Please go through her channel and tell me I'm wrong. She's so painfully insecure that each video screencap is her looking hot while positioning herself against the other person looking their worst. Ironically, no one would give two shits about her if she weren't "trans person against trans ideology", she would simply be a boring white bully of a woman.
Also re-reading the thread, and it's embarrassing how some posters simply parrot learned phrases from Madonna and wield it in this thread without thought or proper context. I mean, I get it, you obviously don't speak English other than Madonna lyrics, we can hardly expect you to express complex thoughts. Madonna's freedom fighting also can't be conflated with this, since she never took a massive dump on the disenfranchised. And again, this has nothing to do with Madonna, and was obviously another misguided Guy Oseary move.
I also want @robder, @deathproof , @thiagosb  and @PlayPause to join me in a liberated commune. I just know you guys are sexy, on top of being smart, you're serving BDE! I'll also be reading "Pedagogy of the Oppressed", thanks for making me read on Paulo Freire!

    Anyway...
I've seen the entire special, and will be commenting only on it, without delving into Chappelle's previous statements. I'm hoping any trans/ally person will help me out if I'm missing bigger parts of the story.
First of all, you can clearly tell Dave Chappelle is an old school comedian, in the sense that his time is over. Comedy has evolved, and he has refused to do so. I found myself chuckling a couple of times during the hour, but not more than that. He's clearly an eloquent and extremely charming guy, with a lot of lived experience and solidarity with his people, as he should, since the Black community is still so clearly disenfranchised two centuries after slavery was "abolished". The thing that's painfully obvious can be summarized by the following meme.
Look, I don't think he thinks he's doing transphobic things. He's clearly described his experience with Daphne, the lovely trans comedian, who was his friend. Unfortunately, it all seemed disrespectful in the sense that he used her as a shield, or, dare I say it, the "I'm not racist, I have black friends" defense. Her death was, again, used as a weapon against the nasty trans, who drove her to kill herself, just for standing up for him. You don't get to say "I'm team TERF" and "Gender is a fact" and "Transitioning is just like blackface" and "Their pussies are just pretend", while in the same breath proclaiming "I'm not saying trans women aren't women" and supporting them using the bathrooms of their gender. The best interpretation could be that it's mixed messaging, and the worst is that it's pure transphobia, because those first four statements are indeed very transphobic, and mean you're pretty deeply familiar with the anti-trans movement and their ideology. I completely understand why some trans people took offence with it. It's not dog whistles, it's completely blatant. It's also definitely not comedic.
The worst part is thinking that J.K. Rowling, DaBaby and Kevin Hart were being punched down on. It will literally never be true, because the fact they've reached the 1% of the 1% means they have more privilege than any other woman or black person that you know. Not to mention trans people, who are often forced into prostitution since nobody else wants to hire them. Can you imagine that happening to you? Can you empathize?
As I said, the Daphne story is the ugly filpside of the times we live in and people having to vent their rage against their oppression somewhere, not even picking their targets properly. Regular people shouldn't have their livelihoods destroyed because of wrong statements. But putting her plight against the "poor Kevin Hart couldn't host the Oscars" and somehow making that feel all the same just felt crass, felt wrong, felt disrespectful. I just hope he keeps his promise and helps her daughter when she's older.
So yeah, that was my two cents. My new friend @robder posted this very good video on trans people and comedy yesterday, and it nails the discussion so well. Especially since it's in line with Dave Chappelle said about Daphne too, that talking about herself and her own lived experience is where her true comedic talent shined through. So, in memory of Daphne, please watch this. And realize that, yes, Dave Chappelle might not be transphobic, but he definitely said very, very transphobic things.

I agree with most points here...other than "I don't think David Chapelle is transphobic."
I get what's meant by this, but it's important to deconstruct what transphobia means, along with the forms it can present in.
It doesn't necessarily need to mean direct anger/abuse/insults...
Transphobia is fear of the trans agenda and what it represents. Indirect transphobia includes spouting comments that cause harm, even without the express/surface intent to do so.
I've experienced indirect homophobia millions of times in the form of tiny micro-aggressions. An example could be, "I LOVE the gays but i don't think they should be able to marry in churches simply because religion states that this kind of union should be between man and woman." (etc yawn).
David Chapelle is transphobic. But this doesn't necessarily mean he needs to be a social pariah - it just means he needs challenging; publicly, loudly and repeatedly.

I don't see a wider conversation about cancel culture though.
I see the trans community + allies critiquing a viewpoint.
The distraction technique of the alt-right is and always has been to cry 'cancel culture'.
Many of these influencer types are behaving like absolute melts, unable to engage in any kind of reasoned discourse. "Thin skin" being one such example.

    It's all about Contrapoints.
I'm far too old to give a shit about influencers - but I'm completely hooked on her vids.
I loved her previous analysis of the term, "facts don't care about feelings"...She also navigates conversations around biology really well. Pure brilliance and one of the only reasons to love the digital age.

Great question....and there are no shoulds.
...but this is a community that needs allies.
Plus the exclusionary conversations around trans people (privileged people discussing what rights you should have in the next room etc) mirror the 90s era of homophobia almost exactly.
DC shouldn't be cancelled - indeed, he hasn't and will probably never be cancelled. Neither have trans people got 'thin skin' as he puts it. The trans narrative is one of survival...you have to be pretty hardcore to deal with that! He does however need to be publicly challenged (and repeatedly).
There's nothing more annoying than successful people with HUGE fan bases and 100,000's of followers on social media complaining about being cancelled (JK Rowling for one).
It's also lazy "comedy" because he's not talking about lived experience. This is a great youtube on the subject (just replace Ricky Gervais with David Chapelle):
Madonna may be a trans ally and staunch supporter of gay and women's rights but she's been fairly quiet around trans politics.
I'd love to hear her speak up - whilst allowing Dave Chapelle to fail. Dialogue is important after all!...and he's got it very wrong on this occasion.

I suspect this was prior to hearing this specific wave of terf comments.
Plus he's quite sycophantic and evangelical about Madonna in the cut - she probably loved that!

    Nonsense.
Again - levelling transphobia at someone doesn't have to mean they're a malevolent human.
It just means that in his island universe of opinion, Chapelle doesn't feel trans rights are human rights. Terf isn't an insult either - it's just a literal translation of a type of modern feminism that excludes the trans identity.
Vulnerability and empathy are entirely separate traits that can coexist. They don't serve to invalidate this claim.
