It is odd to release the 16-track version just to streaming two months before it's released in all versions, but... it's not going to get all that much in the way of streams regardless (compared to the younger, more current acts- especially as a remix project). One can't expect this to chart super-high, either, upon release, barring a surprise in its sales showing.

Good t see the Queen doing her thing and enjoying herself at the club. I agree that she does not need do, nor should we expect her to do, the kind of dancing and choreography she once did on future tours. I'm glad she took the sunglasses off.

^Plus, as noted, two of the three entries fared better this time out than prior. And, that just two females have more entries than her (and it's only one more entry). TIC probably remains my "desert-island" album- that's how strong and defining it is.

Like a Prayer is lower than the initial list (331 vs. 237), though The Immaculate Collection and Ray of Light make nice jumps; they were ranked 278 and 363, respectively, on the 2003 list. Doing a quick scan, looks like the Beatles has the most entries (nine), followed by Bob Dylan (8; includes an album with The Band); Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Kanye West follow, with six each, with Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie and Led Zeppelin at five each. Among others with multiple entries, Stevie Wonder, Prince and The Who have four. Among females, Aretha Franklin and Joni Mitchell look to have the most (4), with the following scoring three each: Madonna, Janet Jackson and Fiona Apple. Note: Beyoncé has two solo albums, and one with Destiny's Child. No surprise that her self-titled set and Lemonade were top 100- not necessarily my favorites, though they were very well-received.

It's between LAP and ROL, but I went with LAP. Strong case could be made for either, though.

Did anyone happen to take a screenshot(s) or take count of how many merchandise bundles (including a physical or digital copy of the album) that were available for Madame X upon its release? I know it was a decent number, but since then, we've seen some acts have dozens, and I don't think the MX number was quite that high. Thanks for any info.

The World of Madame X documentary was on Amazon, so she could take that route with the tour itself.

I would have gone with a LAP-era photo, but other than that, good stuff. From what I can see, these are other female music acts who were chosen: Bessie Smith (1923), Billie Holiday (1939), Zenzile Miriam Makeba (1967), Aretha Franklin (1968), Sinead O'Connor (1992), Pussy Riot (2012) and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (2014).

Shouldn't have released MX? What'chu talkin' about? In any event, she could have released the most radio-0friendly accessible music of her career, and it wouldn't have sold much more, if more at all. Happens to the best, and all, of them.

You're welcome, Voguerista. Unless Billboard changes the rules for album redemptions, it should re-enter those charts next week. There have been rumbles that something would change with the start of the new chart year, though not sure if it's Nov.30 or Dec. 7 charts- and it may be merch bundles that are of more concern that album-redemption offers.

I see not much activity in this forum, so I thought I'd post this. Buzz Angle is a precursor to forthcoming U.S. charts- it's not an exact match or anything, but it gives an idea. Thus, MX should re0enter Billboard's Top Current Albums chart (for a 19th week) and perhaps Top Album Sales (for a 10th week). It likely will never re-enter the Billboard 200, as the sales aren't high enough to offset the relatively low amount of streaming. (It would need weekly sales in the range of 6K-7K or so.) Yes, especially from that angle, you cannot grasp the experience that is Madame X.

Unless Madonna reunites with WB, I doubt it will bother to update her certs. Her albums have sold 75m+ in the USA, per a late-2009 Billboard article, so some albums indeed would be eligible for higher certs. Like a Prayer and Ray of Light, I can see both at 5 million. TIC, of course, could be upped. Singles sales/shipments had dropped to 94 million in 1986, down considerably from 1980. Though I have no doubt that "Live to Tell," a new Madonna single that hit No. 1 without availability on any album at that time, didn't ship 500,000-plus. "Material Girl" would also be a gold contender (note that this just pertains to physical, not digital or adding digital, streaming info, to physical, etc.). WB was not the best at certifying product, so we can't go by a title's last cert and what sales it saw thereafter.

If it were forgotten favorites, do you mean hits, or album cuts? She could do something like the Anti-Tour, that the Princess of Pop did.

It's a Billboard survey, thus it's based on the charts. In this instance, week-to-week performance on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts. if it were cultural impact, Madonna would be even higher than 5, and far ahead of other females.

On a five-star scale, I'd say 4.5. On a side note- re-Invention Tour may be the closest to a GH tour since 2001, but it would not be classified as such. No GH tour at that point would have five songs (six, counting a verse of "Intervention)" from American Life, nor would it have "The Beast Within," "Hanky Panky," "Lament," etc. Even "Burning Up," while a classic, wouldn't feature. And even "Deeper and Deeper" may miss the cut, unless there are some medleys.

A strong sophomore effort. It may not have the artistic greatness of albums that followed, but it sure had a huge cultural impact. A note about a non-single (outside if Italian airplay or something to that effect): "Over and Over" remains one of my favorite M songs, period.

I never really ventured to another M forum outside of that (and DotMusic from back in the day hehe) My Madame X Tour article/review article was posted online recently, so I thought I'd share (outside of the regular reviews thread). As Madonna is my favorite act, naturally I'd like to see it do as well as it could in page views/visitor count. As amscity said, the single sleeve clearly stated that LTT was from the forthcoming album. PDP may have kicked off the album in full force, so I could see why some see that as the lead single. So, perhaps neither answer is wrong. As for DADay- M said in an interview with Rick Dees when the song was out that it would be included on her forthcoming album. There as more of a time gap between that single and the album, though so I wouldn't call that the lead single from American Life. A single from the album, sure. Unlike "American Pie," which was simply tacked on to non-U.S. versions of the Music album.

The musical climate isn't a great one for hits compilations these days. Even when an act performs many of the big hits at a big festival/event, the impact can only last so long. The Immaculate Collection used to be a regular presence on the U.S. catalog sales chart. WB should sale-price it regularly to maintain a presence on said chart.
