  1. All I can think of while rewatching this is “damn, she looked amazing that night!!!”
  2. True. Most fans seem to think she’s just getting ready for the MX Tour DVD. Aaw cute. #nothappening
  3. Sadly, Madonna's career during the last 5/6 years has been plagued with so maney cringey moments; in fact, I'm always on edge now whenever she actually announces an appearance somewhere... my first though is usually "OMG how is she going to fuck it up this time?" Yup, it's come to that. I'm all for the freedom-champion performance artist narrative she likes to pull, but often it has nothing to do with that and a lot with lack of judgement and wisdom... like, how on Earth did she ever think that kissing Drake on stage would be a good thing to do? Or even delivering a "serious" message about the pandemic while in her bathttub & surrounded by rose petals (Even if her intentions were good, and I do think she was misinterpreted)? We live in a world where optics matter more now than ever before. Soundbites, thanks to social media, are all almigthy, and have the power to trigger anger, violence, happiness and sadness in equal measure. As independent, confident and wise as we know she could/has been... honestly, she could've done better these last few years. I agree with some fellow posters here about the many awful cringey moments we've "endured" recenty. Notably: - Drake - The horrible Aretha speech... not only was it out of touch, but she was also unashamdely recycling bits of her own 2009 tribute speech for Michael Jackson. And was the audition bit even true? Oh, and nevermind the dress. #mess - Eurovision is probably the worst ever for me. It was really heartbreaking. Pathetic, I know. But the disappointment was real for me. A mere "we experienced tech issues during my performance" post would've done wonders, but she pretended nothing happened and the whole MX era was doomed from there. She gave all her haters the material they needed to hate on her more ("the woman cannot sing, she's a has-been, she's a fake," etc)... I remember watching Good Morning Britain the next day and hearing the harsh/hateful comments, particularly from a man Jeetendr Sehdev who called her "the most inauthetic, dishonest and media-manipulator celebrity of all time". Ouch. - Yes, the 2015 BRIT Awards... The social media reactions were beyond brutal. - The GIF above did remind me that the Superbowl performance had that super weird moment with LMFAO — what a horrible choice. She probably thought they were the s*** and "edgy". Little did she know... - Every time she pretended to like Taylor Swift's music LOL - As much as I enjoyed her brattiness during the Graham Norton 2019 interview (I really did!), it's uncomfortbale to notice how her sense of humour really seems to go nowhere with most people... she just ends up scaring everyone around her. I do enjoy her sarcasm... unfortunately it's probably not TV/Entertainment industry material... happens to her in most of her TV appearances, and perhaps more and more as time goes by. - When she got all bitchy at concert goers in Santiago, Chile in 2012 while she was rehearsing because allegedly someone in the audience was smoking... Truthfully (if you watch the video on youtube), she got mad at them because they had laughed at her when the wind turned her umbrella over haha. So much for her claims to having a good sense of humour. Yea, only when she can be the bully in charge. She can be so rude to us.
  4. 34 here! Fan since I was 12. Edit: Being raised in a Catholic household, I remember prior to that she used to really scare me. My aunt used to call her "Madame Satan". Now I can only relish in being a Madame Satan devotee, LOL.
  5. I wonder if you're being rather unfair? We all change. Many of your faves have changed, I'm sure — but perhaps they give the public a more marketeable/comfortable/conventional image? Madonna has changed a lot over the years, whether you were comfortable with her different past personas or not, that's another story. Arguably, the 2000s gave us some of Madonna's most successful and consistent years; she delivered great music and seemed very accessible then. Yet, she was also at odds with many of the "Madonnas" of the past... she constantly dismissed her Erotica/Sex book era in interviews, and even tried to distance herself from a lot of her previous accomplishments (as she usually does, anyway). For a few years, Madonna suddenly was this conservative married lady, who went to pubs and who was actually far removed from the bold pro-LGBT activist we saw earlier in the 80s and 90s, or even in more recent years. She seemed more like a woman in love willing to fit into her husband's mould, rather her authentic self — THAT, to me, was a more troubling version of Madonna than the current one. I would also argue that is probably not a good idea to judge "who she is" these days based on what you see on her social media. Most of it is staged, either for fun or also to get a lot of reactions. And of course, she has been unwise at times and posted ridiculous stuff, but she has moved on, and so should we. You mention Britney out of all people... You realise the poor thing hasn't been herself since at least 2007? Whatever the current legal situation with her dad, it is clear she suffers from mental health issues, and that fame hasn't been her best friend. You can find a few of her interviews pre-crisis were she was already breaking down and showing signs of things going bad for her. Madonna, has at least, always kept her sanity and never allowed "the business" to destroy her spirit — That's quite remarkable. Has she reached a point where she truly doesn't care? Have the successes of many years given her the sense that she can actually be more artistic in her creative output, rather than commercially sound? Does she refuse to be imprisoned by her fans' expectations of who she ought to be? Has she slowed down a little for the sake of her children, and also because, why not? I don't know, it may be a mix of these and other things. And quite frankly, her business, her career, her choices. Personally, I enjoy the ride. I'm constantly fascinated by her career and changes — call it, "reinventions", or whatever. I'm always surprised that the same woman who sang "Future" or "Unapologetic Bitch" is actually the same one who at some point sang "Like a Virgin" and "Jimmy, Jimmy". That's a full life, indeed. Not many artists out there are as open-minded and adventurous as she has been. Moreover, many stay in their own niche/lanes, stay cosy in the boxes society and their own fans have built for them, and truly end up becoming the ultimate sterotypes of their "eras" and genres. Of course, I would love another number 1 album, or even single, but I also find a lot of comfort in the depth of her creativity and yes, stubborness. It is often that character "flaw" that has given her the courage to deliver some of her best stuff. Don't get me wrong, I also agree with many fans on how bad and frustrating the whole Madame X campaign/promo was. For an album that seemed to be so packed with love and creativity on her behalf, it was also full of missed opportunities and, surprisingly, lack of vision along the way.
  6. Yesss! I've never believed that Martha Graham story. But of course, Ms Graham isn't alive to corroborate it, how convenient. M is notorious for constantly re-writing/reframing her own story. Sadly, it rarely works in her favour. Hasn't she noticed yet?
  7. I mean, cool, she has a very particular sense of humour... but at this point it doesn’t even make financial sense... Has Madonna reached a point in her career where money isn’t really an incentive anymore? if this is indeed a repeated attempt to troll us, she must be aware that her stunts are not making her much money anymore... or are they? There used to be a time when bad press was considered good press... but after sooo much bad (and even indifferent) press during the past decade, I can’t see how all this is paying off.
  8. I'm on your side too. I have ZERO issues with M using autotune and vocoder effects on her voice. In fact, I think it has given her work with Mirwais a distinctive and revolutionary sound. The sonic clash of old/traditional instrumentation/genres being incorporated into newer sounds and technologies is pure lush and also very interesting (and bold!), in my opinion. More importantly, this contrast in sounds throughout MX makes me think that that's exactly the binarism and paradoxical world Madonna wanted to create and convey all along — a constant push and pull between extremes, sonically, philosophically and lyrically. Madonna has been using autotune since at least Music and suddenly the world accuses her of not knowing how to sing (again!), or overusing it... It is clearly an aesthetic choice, and many of her fans cannot see that, still (even when a lot of them actually saw her live on the MX Tour, when her voice was in superb shape). Also, SO many artists nowadays use autotune (particularly in rap, hip-hop and R&B), yet M gets criticised for it? Drake and Kanye have made a career out of excessive use of autotune. I have wondered if maybe pop fans actually have sexist expectations on how a woman's vocal delivery should be? Madonna has dealt with very harsh criticism in regards to her vocal talent throughout her career, but maybe now critics feel that, with autotune, they finally have the perfect "excuse" to bash her? Honestly, I don't know... I just think the answer is far more complex than we think. And of course, you're entitled to not liking autotune. That's okay too.
  9. I keep thinking the same, but even if that’s the case, whyyyy?!?! Makes no sense.
  10. I’m surprised that, as a Madonna fan, you have made it this far without knowing that this was a Frida Kahlo painting (My Birth), and a famous one for that matter?! M has quite the art collection — Kahlo being one of her faves. In fact (I’m afraid this will break your heart LOL), but back in 1990 when discussing this painting with Vanity Fair, Madonna said the following: “If somebody doesn’t like this painting then I know they can’t be my friend.” So, 1) Madonna could not be your friend; and 2) I dare you to tell it to her face—that this painting is “absolutely disturbing”, that is ... (she’ll probably make Stella and Estere kick your butt afterwards haha) For anyone interested, there’s more information about the painting here: http://www.kahlo.org/my-birth/
  11. Hm true! Maybe a “Queen” titled project is “coming soon”, after all. Maybe a greatest hits album? (As odd as that sounds?)
  12. She looks great! And tbh it really comes and goes... a lot of her posts suffer from bad lighting and bad camera angles... she really doesn’t care. She has fun on IG, unlike most people who perhaps take it too seriously. She shows us the bad, the good, the ugly, the beautiful. Ever the rebel.
  13. Hmm I think something is definitely happening... she keeps referring to meetings and/or meeting “important people” in her latest IG videos. Unless, of course, she’s only getting ready to go to the dinner table and the “important people” are only her kids and Malik? Lol.
  14. Her latest video on IG is... emm... “interesting”? You can see some of her nose hairs towards the beginning (lol), listen to her nonsense and, to all those obsessed with her looks, I actually think that fillers and all, she looks quite her age and good too (depending on the angle, of course... Haha). I’m still surprised at the little makeup she uses these days, especially around the eyes. Oh well. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CJKIsjIB4pM/?igshid=m1qhxqcs36bb
  15. Haha as someone pointed out, it might not be more than a personalized 2021 diary. Trolling us as usual... It works.
  16. I saw this pic today on Facebook. Not necessarily “rare” but I just wondered if anyone else thought that the veil and crown looked a bit too similar to the dark veil and crown she wore for her entrance/“Girl Gone Wild” performance on the MDNA Tour? Wonder if there’s an actual connection? After all, MDNA was her post-divorce/ultimate angry breakup album....
  17. The thing is that we all change as we age. Let's first accept that. Secondly, yes, she has decided to have a bit more control over that process, and it's totally fine. At this point, we should also learn that just as we complain about her "current" face, she surprises us, and looks stunning again... it kind of comes and goes... but since, these days, we have mostly seen her without a lot of make-up and in lounging clothes, it's probably fair to say that she will look just fine next time she comes up with a proper project (and photoshoot). Just as some have pointed out, she looked fab for the Madame X videos (particularly "Crave"), so don't worry, LOL! I attended the MTV Special where she debuted the "Medellin" video lat year and I couldn't believe how gorgeous she looked (the makeup, the legs, the hair, the BOOBS!)... We all have bad days, and she probably even takes photos right after she undergoes her filler treatments... I actually admire her "don't give an F" attitude towards what she posts on IG and instead of giving us highly curated/sanitised posts (which I know some, if not most, fans would prefer!), she opts to share a little bit of everything... Madonna lounging in her PJs, Madonna and her post-op scars, Madonna being silly around her house in an ugly grandpa sweater... I mean... that's also kind of cute. To me, it's quite clear she doesn't use IG to sell anything; unlike most celebs, wanna be celebs, influencers, etc., she just uses the platform to have fun, share random stuff, troll us, and even be stupid at times. Even when she tries to actually sell a product (MDNA Skin crap or the awful MX perfume), it really doesn't go too well... So, If all that (even seeing her without makeup and in really unflattering ways) annoys you, just don't follow her. Do I miss some of her previous faces/looks? Sure (1995-96/2004/2012 M in particular). But I'm actually more interested in witnessing Madonna's on-going and neverending evolution(s) as a person and artist. Even the way she alters her looks and body in the process is super enjoyable to analyse/think about. The social commentary that has developed over the last decade around her in regards to ageing, respectability, motherhood, cosmetic surgery, success, dating after 60, etc. are quite fascinating imo. The sociologist in me, I suppose! LOL
  18. I mean, it’s nothing new. Even if there have been changes to what she’s talking about, it truly has been going on for years. It sounds like she’s reading a garbage article from a tabloid. And sadly, her post has been used as another excuse for her haters to troll her. You know, “Madonna sounds like a silly old aunt/lady who just doesn’t understand how technology and big tech companies work”, or “another uneducated Karen goes on Facebook”, kind of thing. Awful.
  19. Here’s the clip of him telling the story: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CIxu6imHAQX/?igshid=zwp2cu7t20hn Who’s the moron that towards the end of the clip brings up the Madonna is old, by the way? The ageism towards her will never end, will it?! Such disrespect! “She’s quite old as well, isn’t she?” Unbelievable! “Haha” how funny ugh.
  20. Hmmmm this changes a lot but I will go today with... Girl Gone Wild, Vogue, Spotlight
  21. I also don’t mind his previous opinions on M; I mean, why do some fans even “feel” offended? The only one entitled to that here is Madonna. Period. That said, I’m glad that, all in all, he respects and admires her still. Too bad they don’t speak to each other anymore, though why would they? This episode with Rupert Everett is also a reminder to us fans of how much M guards her personal life — even if some take her IG so seriously. She’s rather unforgiving with people who break her trust, as we’ve seen... from Rupert to Christopher to Junior Vasquez. I don’t blame her... She’s right to be cautious; everyone will want a piece of her and sell it to the public (whether is the media or a tell-all autobiographical book).
  22. “Swim” is absolute gem. I’m surprised many fans don’t dig it as much as I do. I love the way the electronic sounds and the percussion evoke water, waves and even the dark movement/mood of the lyrical content.
  23. She does look beautiful... I’m just more interested in her odd choice of fashion these days. She seems to have a thing for long-ish comfortable dresses now... and sweaters ?. It’s like she’s hiding her body. A very Frida thing to do.
  24. Nirvana IS influential, but #1? Madonna and Prince deserved to be the top 2. Oh well. At least she’s the most influential female on the list. Nice article too!
