Remixes Better Than Original?

Recently I got a Spotify membership and I was going through Madonna’s catalog and I stumbled upon this AWESOME remix of Sorry. The PSB Maxi-Mix Edit! It’s addictive I probably listened to it like 15 times today!

Which brought me to the thought of are there any other remixes that are better than their Album version?

The 2 that I love are Justify my Love, Beast Within Mix, though it is so different it could almost be a different song, the whole the maxi single is great. I also love some of the LAP remixes on Remixed Prayers. I am so annoyed with most of Madonna's early remixes not being on Spotify that I have started collecting them on CD off eBay. I am discovering new ones each week.

I only discovered the PSB Sorry Remix quite recently and absolutely agree, it is fantastic. I know it has often been rumoured but I would love to see them collaborate further.

I really can't choose only one best version for every Madonna single, because I love every version and I listen to all of them...

But here are some very popular and amazing remixes that sound so great!

 Burning Up (12" Version)

Borderline (US Remix)

Angel (Extended Dance Mix)

Dress You Up (The 12'' Formal Mix)

Papa Don't Preach (Extended Version)

Open Your Heart (Extended Version)

Like A Prayer (12'' Dance Mix)

Like A Prayer (12'' Club Version)

Express Yourself (7" Remix)

Express Yourself (Video Mix) (Or the Remix/Edit Version)

Keep It Together (7" Promo Remix)

Keep It Together (Single Version)

Keep It Together (12" Extended Mix)

Deeper And Deeper (Shep's Classic 12'')

Secret (Junior's Luscious Single Mix)

Don't Cry For Me Argentina (Miami Mix)

Nothing Really Matters (Club 69 Radio Mix)

Music (Groove Armada 12" Mix)

What It Feels Like For A Girl (Above & Beyond Mix)

Nothing Fails (Radio Remix) (Or the Nevins Mix)

Ghosttown (Offer Nissim Drama Remix)

Crave (Tracy Young Dangerous Radio Edit)

Nothing Fails (Radio Remix) (Or the Nevins Mix)

Crave (Tracy Young Dangerous Radio Edit)

There are so many. I usually go for a 7'' Version or official single remix if i do a compilation but there are better mixes available than some of those. I can't stand the 7'' Version of Cherish, They miss the entire Break, I prefer the Video Mix.

Thats just one example I could go into it forever.

Holiday

True Blue

Dress you up

La Isla Bonita

Don't kill me, but from "Burning Up" to "Give It 2 Me" I find the radio edits and the remixes better than the album versions. I am a fan thanks to her singles.

I don't know why I've always found her album versions too long or (I don't know what is the correct word in english) too "empty" if you compare the album versions with the single versions because the singles versions usually adds new elements to the original song (Examples: Like A Prayer, Express Yourself, Open Your Heart, Cherish, etc, etc, etc).

Yes, the album versions are masterpieces, but the singles version adds new layers and enhances the original song (of course, in my opinion).

And many remixes turns a really good Album Version into an amazing song (examples: Express Yourself, What it feels like for a girl, Keep It together, Don't Tell Me, Ray of Light, Frozen, Fever, Bye Bye Baby, Nothing really Matters, Beautiful Stranger, etc, etc, etc).

Again, in my opinion.

From MDNA to Madame X I prefer the album versions.

In most cases the album versions or single versions are better than any remix. But there are some remixes that are as good as the album versions and must haves. Here’s some of my favourites:

- Like a Prayer (Sheps Remix)

- Express Yourself (Sheps Remix)

- Justify My Love (Orbit Remix)
- Deeper and Deeper (David’s club mix)

- Secret (Junior’s Single Remix)

- Bedtime Story (Orbital Mix)

- Don’t cry for me Argentina (Miami Mix)

- Frozen (Stereo Mc’s)

- Ray of Light (Sasha’s Remix)

- The Power of Goodbye (Dallas Austin)

- Music (Groove Amada)

- Don’t Tell Me (Tracy Young)

- What it feels like for a girl (Above & Beyond)

- American Life (Oakenfold)

- Hollywood (Stuart Price)

- 4 Minutes (Timbaland)

- Give it 2 Me (Oakenfold)

I would seriously recommend getting all the maxi singles at the very least especially the 90’s ones. And the 12” versions from the 80’s are also a must!

Yes, I am doing just this.

The other ones I like are the Tracey Young mixes of Crave, not a fan of the album or single version, but love the dance beats on this one, and iirc it was the version Madonna performed on MXT

The Felix Da Housecat mixes of American Life.... well, actually, most of the mixes of American Life. The album version is so horrid that the remixes actually make it tolerable. The Felix Da Housecat mix is pretty damn good though.

The Album version of American Life is AMAZING ? Did you not like Madame X too?

Anything Shep remixed is better or as good as the original, from late 90's to today I like some remixes but nothing beats the originals for me.
But if a song was improoved by the remix it was Borderline. Jellybean's single mix is MILES better than the hollow, neverending album version.

Causing a Commotion (Silver Screen Single Mix)

What it Feels Like for a Girl (Above & Beyond 12" Club Mix)

Nothing Fails (Nevins Mix)

Hollywood (Oakenfold Full Remix)

Hung Up (SDP Extended Vocal) - it's right up there with the original. I love the club feel to this mix.

Give It 2 Me (Paul Oakenfold Remix)

Bitch I'm Madonna (Sander Kleinenberg Remix)

Guest Nobody Knows Me

While there aren’t many remixes that I prefer to the original album version, some of them are:

- Causing a Commotion (Silver Screen Single Mix)
- Express Yourself (Video Mix)
- Hollywood (Jacques Lu Cont Mix)
- I Rise (Thomas Gold Mix)

I really wish they’d released a full radio edit of the Jacques Lu Cont Mix of Hollywood.

American Life ranks as one off the worst songs in her discography for me, which is odd as the rest of the album is really good. As for Madame X... No
