Once again, the fact that Kanye has left their duet out of his album (although it was announced by M in interviews) means that they didn't see any potential in M for sales or promotion. This wouldn't have happened 20 years ago.

As for the "Like Madonna" demo, is it legit? Does it really feature Madonna  (she is not in the leaked snippet) and was it really intended for Rebel Heart?

That’s not true and not really fair to say tho. Kanye’s Life of Pablo had been reworked and revised multiple times during the span of 3 years. It was something that was discussed at length in the press when the album came out. Plus M and Kanye recorded Highlights in late 2014, when the album came out in Feb of 2016

It may not have had to do with sales at all, it could have just been Kanye’s artistic vision for his project
