The Immaculate Collection is perfect as it is, it honestly doesn’t need WTG, CAC, TB.

I agree. As much as I and many other fans love WTG (as well as DYU, CAC and TB), they really aren’t among her most remembered and most iconic hits. Their lack of professional or memorable videos may have contributed to that. True Blue has the video but it wasn’t aired in the US, so it technically didn’t have a proper one in the minds of most people. DYU & CAC used tour performances and they also weren’t as big as the other songs that made the cut. The video for Who's That Girl was absolutely nothing worth talking about.

But I do think that Everybody was, at one point, on the running but then discarded. It is her first song after all and it did well.

I just can't picture that tbqh. There are several songs that deserve more of a spot than Everybody, even if it was her first single.

The Who’s That Girl soundtrack songs were very much dubbed inferior versions of songs that had gone before them.

Into The Groove

La Isla Bonita

Live To Tell.

I adore the WTG songs but even I can see why people thought that.

Everybody & Burning Up would never have made it on there. This is Immaculate Madonna not “the singles”.

Dress You Up really should have made the cut tbh. It was a single from her biggest selling  US album and only two songs were there to represent it. The debut has three, True Blue had four, and Prayer had three. So Dress You Up was robbed and it sort of fits that dance pop vibe of the whole album more than say True Blue or Who’s That Girl.

If anything should have been cut in it’s place it probably should have been Lucky Star which was not as big as hit at all.

Causing a Commotion sounds nothing like Into the Groove.

I keep reading people saying they sound similar when they aren’t even close in sound.

Just because they share the words ‘get into the Groove’ does not mean they sound similar.

Talking about the Holiday video, i've just read this in the Lucky Star book from 1985 by Michael McKenzie & Martin Burgoyne

Capture-d-cran-2023-04-18-011043.png

So the Burning Up video was not released at the same time as the single but way after the album release and after the Holiday single release (the first off the album in june of 1983) when the song was finally a hit after Thanksgiving of 1983. That's when they did the Burning Up video.

Capture-d-cran-2023-04-18-014249.pngCapture-d-cran-2023-04-18-014553.png

Then Borderline AND Lucky Star were shot a week apart in February of 1984

Capture-d-cran-2023-04-18-014126.png

Like A Virgin was supposed to be released on july 18th 1984 but was postponed due to the success of the re-release of Lucky Star (originally released in september of 1983).

The timeline was really confusing to me, fact is the videos were not released with the singles except for Borderline and the re-release of Lucky Star but why did they shot that video in february when the single had been already out since september and if Holiday was too "dance oriented" for MTV then, so was Lucky Star, unless that one, in all its simpicity was made exclusively for clubs. So Jellybean remixed Burning Up in the last quarter of 1983 to make it sound less "dance oriented" and more "new wave" because that was what MTV played then (Rock and New Wave only). So maybe they sent Lucky star to MTV and people digged it even though it was too dance oriented for MTV. How this one got re-released and pushed back Like A Virgin (which already had a release date as seen in this book) to november is still a blur (to me at least).

I can’t see them re issuing the immaculate collection - I think that will stay as is.

I do think there will be a Celebration: Tour Edition released this year though. Make it up to 40 tracks from 82-09 (adding 4 extra tracks from the Warner years such as True Blue, Deeper & Deeper, Causing A Commotion and Give It To Me), whilst also fixing some of the edits to make them help her general streaming (e.g. Holiday 7", Dress You Up with proper opening, Cherish IC version...)

It's a no brainer really considering the branding synergy with the tour, although I'm not sure how it might in with the album re-issues.

(Scary thought, imagine this was the only re-issue this year...)

Lord, somebody hold me back if this ever happens. I WOULD BE PISSED. XD

If they do want to reissue Celebration for the tour, they must fix the glitches on Music, replace DYU with its proper album version, fix the editing on Erotica and Cherish (which they did for digital streaming) and arrange them in chronological order. As for the remaster, no helping this bitch at all. XD

Actually... you got me thinking of something, @Bjonkers...

Why only until 2009? They included songs from 2012-2019 on Finally enough love, so it seems it's not a problem. A tour edition of Celebration should definitely included newer songs, since she's gonna perform them. I would say Give me all your luvin', Girl gone wild, Living for love, Ghosttown, Bitch I'm Madonna, Medellín, Crave and I don't search I find and Back that up to the beat should be there. Plus, a new song, since she has obviously made at least one recently.

The official US release date for Lucky Star as a stand-alone single was August 8, 1984. Prior to that it was the B-Side to Holiday which was released on September 7, 1983. Holiday was chosen as the A-Side because it was performing better in the clubs. The UK got Lucky Star as a single first, on September 9, 1983. It was released to coincide with her performance at Camden Palace, You can see the "sunglasses" 12" in the background of the photos from Camden Palace. At the start of 1984 Madonna had to pay huge legal fees as she was being sued by Camille Barbone for breach of contract. She was persuaded to record a video for Lucky Star as it was sure to boost album sales and make her enough money to pay off the legal debt. Due to heavy rotation on MTV and good radio play, Warners decided to put it out as the 5th and final single from the first album, even though Like A Virgin was about to drop.

I had been thinking about it contract wise and her not getting the Interscope albums back until 2025, but you're right, they did use those albums on FEL.

Based on that, they could well keep the 36 songs from the original Celebration (with better edits) and add an extra 4 songs such as GMAYL, Bitch I'm Madonna and Medellín. Add on the new Max Martin bop and you've got a snappy general-public-pleasing, marketing sub-title - Celebration: Tour Edition 40 years, 40 hits. I couldn't see them adding anything that is not fun like Crave or Living for Love though. It's a celebration...

There is precedence for this type of thing with Warners. In 2016, they re-released New Order's greatest hits SINGLES (originally released in 2005) which was remastered and certain edits were fixed to maximise streaming. They also added a couple of extra tracks which had been released since the 2005 version. So, let's see...

Lucky star was her first top 5 hit, a breakthrough moment with an iconic video

It should and would. She ain’t gonna reissue that without adding newer songs. They’ll probably even put “40 years” on the cover or something.
