The album remix is actually quite good on its own, haven't heard it in a very long time, even though I personally think it belongs strictly to STR cause it fits so well with the other tracks

What took me by surprise is the Hot Mix Edit, cause it sounds so fresh, lively, and modern. It was one of the first files I downloaded God knows from where, at the time when telephone-based modems were at their height. It was a file with the RM extension, and it was one of the Hot mixes

I don’t know why the club mixes of this song got a reputation of being bad. They are absolutely flawless and aged really well.

The Soulpower remix is beautiful, makes me want to grab a 40 oz, put my hat on backwards and hit the highway in my 64 Impala with hydraulics.

I really dislike the Soulpower Remix and was so disappointed when I was up early to watch the premiere of the music video, not only by the boring video, but by the remix they chose to use.

 

I saw a video where someone used the Album Remix and it works so much better. Perfection.

The Velvet Rope is my least fav J album. Too dark and depressing for me.

I like both the album and Soul Power mix. I presume probably they played the Album remix for the shooting, cause in minute 3:50 you can clearly see how she pronounce the "Don't" that is present in the album remix but not in the soulpower mix. Here is the version with the album remix.

I think they just used a wrong/bad edit of The SoulPower Remix for the video. If you play the CD version of SoulPower remix, it matches her lipsyncing as the Album remix does.

It must be fake or bootleg, I think I came across that version a long time ago, it's probably based on the Hot mix

I guess Warner (and herself) pushing for a more R&B sound in 1996?

They really wanted to release I Want You as a single but Motown blocked the single release and threatened with legal actions, sadly.

You'll See was a hit but probably not enough of a hit to carry the whole compilation. In my opinion, the smartest move would have been to release Forbidden Love (and promote it as a single from STR) which was originally scheduled to be the fifth and final single from Bedtime Stories (b/w Don't Stop) but was canceled to move on to Something to Remember.

They probably ended up releasing LDLHA because it was the only somewhat exclusive thing on the compilation (other than One More Chance which was terrible). The song was also planned as a single from LAV at one point but axed because a different singer released a cover of it at the same time.

I love "One More Chance" but I understand why many fans don't and it wouldn't have done anything commercially either (it was a respectable UK #11 though when released there).

"I Want You" being blocked as a single was a shame. What a great cover and music video.
