But thats not because of the quality of the record. At the time, the public was suffering from Madonna overload. She had been everywhere at once for 3 years. Something (im assuming from her track record in recent years...and since) she has learned from.

In my opinion, it was the combination of "Erotica" and "Sex". It was too much for ordinary people. For me "Erotica" is a masterpiece. I even remember classic fans (from "Like A Virgin" era) hating her for "Erotica" and "Sex". It was a really dark era to be a fan.

I definitely didn’t think it was dark at all, I thought it was her most amazing time career wise. The interviews, the videos (Much music in Canada played the hell out of them, even the edited version of erotica) and we had a huge all day madonnathon that was repeated often, they played the hell out of BA and WTG tours and when GS tour premiered they made a huge thing about it) the singles were always playing on the radio, tons of merch in the record stores. I guess it was different in the states but we loved the entire era in Canada

....also don't forget Body Of Evidence. People had had enough of Slutdonna but myself, I was loving every bit of it. It was a glorious era. The Girlie Show is also still my favorite tour of hers.

You have not understood me. I've said that it was dark to be a fan because even my friends insulted Madonna ("whore", "she is doing porn", "she disgusts me", "she does anything for fame", etc, etc, etc). For me Erotica is one of her best eras (Girlie Show, Album, Singles, Videos) but the hate was too much.

By masters, you mean from the actual master tapes themselves or down to the stems?

To me a master is the original tape with the stereo mixed version. Going back to the stems or multitrack would end up in another mix to me (like on the immaculate collection).

I'd loooove if they took the time for this but it's never gonna happen

OK but Prince's vault of unreleased material can not be compared to Madonna or any other artist. Plus he's dead, so he can't decide what is released and what not. A Super Deluxe Edition with 2 discs full of unreleased songs and demos... It's not realistic to expect nothing like that from Madonna, she probably don't even have that many per album, to begin with.

The first studio album reissue will be the real proof of what to expect and how far she's willing to go with the unreleased stuff. So let's wait and see. :cute:

The first studio album reissue could either end up being the least or the most interesting of all the releases. Not much was recorded for this album that didn't make the final cut. Yes there is Ain't no big deal which is not exactly hard to find. Nor are there many alternate single versions like some of the later albums had. However, if Warners has permission for the many demos and audio liove recordings then this could be a bonanza multi-disc release.

The first album would be worth it if they include the "Pre-Madonna" (the album of demos released by Stephen Bray in 1996) demos, for instance, and/or the Emmy demos. She was listening to some them on Instagram when she was writing the biopic, so at least they are on the radar.

Except "Erotica" (the song) the singles were a flop in sales. Radio stations didn't play the singles. TV didn't play the videos. We all love "Erotica" but like it or not it is considered the first Madonna's flop in music.

"Erotica" almost kill her career.

I’m not sure in other places but on MTV Europe erotica deeper and deeper and rain got tons of airplay. Especially Rain was on non stop during the summer of ‘93.

I read that Rusty was asked by Warner to ship them the tapes last year, so they should be safe and sound. :)

That to me hints that everybody and the first album are the first studio album to release 😁 I’m happy with that and hopefully we will get some jellybean and Steve bray demos plus the original version of spotlight - I just think it makes sense to go in chronological order and at least we kind of know what will come next and experience her evolution all over again 😉🥰

Unfortunately, we can't re-write the history. Erotica was one of major albuns flop she had and it has nothing to deal with music quality and the great video singles. SEX book controversy eclipsed the album and it was a comercial flop at the time. It's a cult album now and also one of the most fans favorite era, but if you take a look at streams, you'll see general public still doesn't connect with it. Streams are very low, including youtube videos.

Now, I know Wiki isn't always accurate - but Erotica sold 6 million copies worldwide, I'm Breathless 7 million copies. Erotica hit No. 2 on the US Billboard charts, the song itself hit No.3.

It was always going to be really hard to follow up LAP no matter what she did!

Rain was huge here in Australia -was on the radio all the time, so was deeper and deeper -

I totally can see "Erotica" as the first reissue, as a statement on her part more than anything. "Look how I paved the way for everyone else... 30 years ago and I'm still doing it today". It also has countless demos and versions that she can use as bonus material.

But let's see. Of course "Like A Prayer", "Ray Of Light" or even "Madonna" would be safest choices.

Also they could release the Erotica Picture Disc for Black Record Store Day. It would be perfect.

Chronological order would be so boring and kill some of the hype. I'm sure Warner has a smarter marketing team on this. Also, they won't re-release all the albums, so going in chronological order is going to make us notice it more

I’m pretty sure all the albums will get rereleased. But only some will get expanded and boxsets and such

Gurl I'm hoping there's nothing, cause if it wasn't good enough to be on THAT album, it should probably be destroyed with fire

So much good dance music came out during 2009-2012... Robyn, Rihanna, Britney, Gaga, Katy, Kesha(even though I didn't like her then) Nikki Minaj, Roisin Murphy dropping random singles, iamamiwhoami, Beth Ditto....    and then Madonna released...  THAT!

What an awesome time to be a fan of electronic music and then Madonna just took a big shit on it.

I was so excited for Madonna's vision of this time periods music, and it just fell super flat for me. Britney's Femme Fatale was playing with sound in such an amazing way... I was really hoping M would tap into it.

Seeing the tour live and hearing the bad mixing of that was also a big mood killer.
