They need to make it integral to the plot and not just featured in the background. Witness the difference between Material Girl in s3 (not integral to the plot) vs. Running up That Hill in s4 (integral to the plot). Being tied into the plot provides much larger returns.

It would be great if it's out THIS Friday or Friday next week. If she misses these two windows nothing's gonna happen until next year, with the Xmas holidays and Warner/Rhino shutting down for that period, I guess.

Her latest Instagram stories with the song give me hope that they're going for it very soon.

"Back That Up" is exploding and it would give her a much needed boost, just like the "Frozen" remix and "Material Girl" did in the last 12 months. She needs it and it's easy and quick, just releasing officially an old 2014 demo, what's not to like?

But wouldn't you agree, releasing it now, the song would get lost in the shuffle so close to the Holidays?  I think it makes sense (if it's true) that she gets it up, early January.  Besides, this is just hitting its stride, so I think it's safe to believe the moment is going last long past January.  These viral songs catch on and are used for months and months if not longer.  We saw that happen with Frozen.  It was growing popular by the time she finally uploaded the original viral mix up and it was still doing well, by the time she released the other mixes and videos.

Maybe you're right. But if they want to wait a little bit for it to not get lost in the middle of all the the Xmas music, they still have December 30 and January 6 - instead it's coming on January 13. Seems a little bit "late" for no reason. But of course maybe they're working on promo, or a music video or whatever, behind the scenes.

It's going to work anyway cause the trend is not dying: it's properly exploding instead! Repeating today at #11 on Shazam worldwide. That shows there's interest in the song. But in a month things can change and it would be a shame if somehow the song ends up not performing as well as it could if it was released now.

A huge part of what makes up streaming is based on in-house playlists at retailers. These generally default to a head office created Christmas playlist during December which gets played 24/7 on repeat. 

General punters will just search for whatever Christmas playlist Spotify throws at them when they're getting in the mood for some decorating or shopping. It's not that everyone's seeking out Brenda Lee,  Nat King Cole or Andy Williams.
