30 years ago, "Lucky Star" was originally released in the United Kingdom on September 8, 1983, by Sire Records, it was the fourth single from the album. The song also appears on her hits compilations The Immaculate Collection (1990) and Celebration (2009). "Lucky Star" was written by Madonna and produced by Reggie Lucas. However, during recording, Madonna was not impressed by Lucas' version. She called her then boyfriend John "Jellybean" Benitez to remix the track according to her ideas. "Lucky Star" is a medium-paced dance track and combines the heavy beats of a drum with the sounds of a guitar played in a high riff. The lyrics juxtapose the male body with the heavenly stars in the sky.

Both contemporary and modern critics praised the song, heralding it as the introduction to upbeat dance music. "Lucky Star" became Madonna's first top-five hit on the Billboard Hot 100, when it reached the peak position of four, becoming the second single in her record-breaking string of 16 consecutive top-ten hits. It had already become Madonna's first number-one song on the Billboard dance charts, when it peaked the chart alongside the previously released single "Holiday".

The music video portrayed Madonna dancing in front of a white background, accompanied by her dancers. After the video was released, Madonna's style and mannerisms became a fashion trend among the younger generation. Scholars noted that in the video, Madonna portrayed herself as narcissistic and an ambiguous character.

#OnThisDay in 2001, Madonna cancelled a show in her "Drowned World Tour" due terrorist airplane attacks on WTC

On September 11 2001, Madonna postponed a scheduled “Drowned World Tour†concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California due to terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. The concert was re-scheduled for September 15.

“Violence begets violence,†Madonna told the Staples Center crowd of nearly 20,000 fans on September 14th, “and I don’t know about you, but I want to live a long and happy life. I want my kids to live a long and happy life.â€

“What happened was horrible, but I’d like to think of it as a wake-up call. There’s terrorism every day all over the world.â€

“Last night, we had a minute of prayer for everybody who died on Tuesday,†said the singer, who had traded her Scottish kilt for a skirt made from an American flag for her first costume of the evening. “Tonight I’d like to say a prayer for peace.†The crowd obliged her request for a moment of silence, but fans soon began chanting “U-S-A†as many waved American flags frantically.

Relenting, Madonna said, “OK, USA. But start looking at the whole world. I said it last night and I’ll say it again: If you want to change the world, change yourself.â€

Madonna pledged that proceeds from her final shows would go to relief funds for victims of the attacks and their families.

Just prior to the beginning of the conference, Madonna was handed a hydrangea by a fan. Although she accepted the flowers with a smile and told the fan “thank you,†she immediately turned to her costar, and with a hot mic, said, â€œI absolutely loathe hydrangeas. He obviously doesn’t know that.†Madonna’s dubious remark quickly became a subject of controversy in celebrity news, leading to much online gossips and commentaries criticizing her fuss over flowers.
