WORK IN PROGRESS MIXES  8/21/97

The main reason we're all here. Here's a description of the demos:

Drowned World: This is pretty similar to the final album version. The intro (the drone synth section before the vocals start) is stretched out about 15 seconds longer.

Candy Perfume Girl: Quite a few structural differences throughout. It matches the Instrumental version we have (except this has the vocals obviously). From this, the final version had the intro shortened, one break chopped out, and another break filled in with beats, and one "girl/boy" chopped out of the ending.

Sky Fits Heaven: The highlight here, this is completely different from any other version I've heard. 100% Orbit production, but without straying too far from Nowell's initial idea. It's the rumbling bass rhythms and half-time rhythms that Nowell's demo started with, but with Orbit's psychedelic soundscape that made me a Madonna fan in the first place.

The tracks overall sound a bit better than the album too. In particular, "Candy" doesn't have the same piercing sibilance that can be a bit grating on the album version.

My observation is also that this version of Sky Fits Heaven likely features beautiful strings arranged by Craig Armstrong. I wish she would reconnect with him so much, he was very proud of his work with her.

I agree, the other demo sounds lower. I guess thats studio magic? The vocal on the other demo also has that kind of oscillating effect and sounds thinner, this vocal is much more robust and clearer. As a longtime fan, I love the Patrick Leonard guitar sound on the 6-6-97 (why are mine labeled two days later) demo, wish Orbit had found a clever way of keeping it as it ties the sound to earlier albums most notably Like A Prayer.

Yeah, I like this clearer vocal more. The drums and the other instruments sound clearer too. 

I wonder if the higher pitch is intentional or is it just a transfer error 

And I checked the scans, the demo disc has two different dates labeled on it, that's why

It's exactly 1 semitone up, they must have tried producing/singing it in a different key
