DL: GHV2 Megamix/Megamix 2001 Remixes (3 CDs) [STRETCH GOAL #4]

These are such a treat, thank you!

I mean no offense here but my burning question regarding promotional product (and I *Love* promos) and its little niche industry: Who failed here?

If this material meant to promote has been unheard for decades, I blame the recipients. Madonna and her team have obviously delivered a large amount of promotional material. The DJs, influencers of that era, radio personalities, and record stores (and likely more) are to blame in my opinion. They did not do their job and now fans have to buy this shit later? I love obtaining new promo material but as a former radio DJ/music store/video store employee the amount of promo material I came across in the early 2000s I'd compare to a river flowing, I'd grab what I could and make the best of it. It doesn't seem like many did or they held on to them for the opposite of "Promo Use Only Not For Resale Not For Manufacturing", keeping it to themselves like a hoarder. At some point this was a freebie. Just my 2 cents as someone who has bought, been given, and worked in order to obtain promos over the years.  When I paid 100 bucks on Southland for a CD of Buenos Aires remixes in the 90s was the first time I experienced this, like if no one plays it whats the point? I know this is more philosophical, I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on Promo Only (the label/stamp/sticker, not the DJ service) material. DJ service material I get cuz thats a DJs choice to play or ignore.

I do also wonder how wide they were distributed and for what purpose - perhaps it was just to test the mixes, so given to a select few DJ's to trial it and see if they met the mark and then were pressed more widely on the promo vinyls' - or perhaps these were all in house only, to execs to give the final green light?

In the case of GHV2, these were distributed widely on vinyl. CDRs were distributed "as needed" - CDJs were not popular yet. The CDRs would be either just for listening internally, or perhaps for a small handful of DJs who had already switched to CD.

Madonna was reportedly uninterested in promoting the Megamix so there was no commerical release... people did play these, but mostly off the vinyls :)

oh interesting re Madonna - was she not keen on remixing it and so it was the labels decision?
