They completly ignored the Roxy when it was THE place she hung out the most with her gang. Danceteria was striclty for business, i interviewed acquaintances of hers from then and definitely they enjoyed more the hip hop / Latino mix sound of The Roxy and The Funhouse than the arty rock and new wave of Danceteria.

They also bypassed the Garage when her first video was shot there and it was her favourite after hang out.

I've always believe she was more hip hop/funk/latin oriented than rock/new wave, even in her early days.

It’s interesting to ponder for sure. Regardless, she was pretty much exclusively hanging out at edgy, arty, and underground places. She wasn’t following corporate or mainstream acts other than those that crossed over eventually like Blondie, etc.
