For me, the best 7'' versions are those that enhance the album versions, such as Like A Prayer, Express Yourself, and Open Your Heart. However, when it comes to shortening a song, the edit of Cherish is perfect because it trims the song without disrupting its structure and removes the parts that feel repetitive in the album version. There are other great edits of Madonna's songs, but I believe that if Cherish isn't the best, it certainly ranks in the top 3.

@Would You Like To Try In my humble opinion, speed up and slow down versions are abominations. I detest them with every cell of my body.

I am very happy to finally be getting some of these mixes and edits digitally! I would love to finish the 80's though with:
    Everybody (Rusty Egan Mixes)
    Burning Up (Jellybean Remix)
    Dress You Up (Remix Edit)
Over and Over (Remix and Dub)
Causing A Commotion (Mixes and Dub)

Does that mean that the 'Open Your Heart (Remix Edit)' is closer????

Lucky Star on Celebration is a unique version, different to the Immaculate Collection version in many ways. Different editing on the intro, different mix arrangement, and different outro. TIC has "You may be my lucky star... what you do to me baby" as a faded outro whereas Celebration version has "Star light, star bright, baby" ad lib outro.

It would be great to get Dress You Up, it always feels somewhat forgotten by the general public as it was not on Immaculate. Now that would have been cool remixed and in Q Sound.
I would love love love an "It's That Girl" release but i doubt that will ever happen.

If you're interested in knowing what the music video for 'Express Yourself' would have been like with the album version, here it is:

I agree with IC Holiday as a definitive, but I prefer that cold ending to Material Girl.  I'd always prefer the original Into the Groove and Like A Prayer though. I could do the whole track listing on if i prefer the single version over the IC versions though ha ha.
I remember getting the cassette on the day it came out and was so excited at remixes. I take them all on their own merit these days and it's nice to have all the versions to make our choices on favourites. Apple (or insert choice of platform) Playlists are a marvel, back in the day it was a mix tape with all the record hissing in between each track.

I’d say Material Girl album version is still king. Probably Like A Virgin too. And I’d put Holiday in the TIC definitive category. Idk if anyone besides her fans plays the long, plain old album version.

It's a much better version IMO. The original "TIC" version edit is a little bit clunky, while the alternative Q-Sound mix on "Celebration" is perfect and closer to the original single edit.

Actually is one of the best bits from that campaign! I still love it to this day.
It's funny how "Celebration" was basically meant to include almost the whole "TIC" album plus all the other songs from later. I mean, it shows they just took the most easily accessible master tapes and ran: the ones from "Immaculate", some album versions (straight lifted from the albums with fades in and everything, like "Hollywood"). Then fans complained and they made some bad edits on the go: "Express Yourself", "Cherish", "Erotica"...
People thought "GHV2" was lazy, but "Celebration" was way, way more lazy. That lack of quality control with an artist like her was surprising and disappointing.

To be honest, I’ve been making playlists of all my favourite artists and most of the legacy acts don’t have their past remixes/b-sides handled any better than Madonna. In fact, she’s one of the better ones.
Michael Jackson for example does not even have his old remixes/singles uploaded at all. Kylie is missing all the singles pre 2004. Janet Jackson has some uploaded but way too many missing. I think what Madonna has done is quite fantastic as most of the best remixes are at least available now.

My fave version of EY has always been the Video Remix Edit (hybrid of the 7" Remix with Local Mix intro/outro) that appeared on the Immaculate Collection DVD, albeit the sound quality was awful for that particular track. I also made my own edit of it, but I have to say that the segue at the start of your creation between the local mix intro and 7" remix is next level brilliance, Amazing job! This will now be my 'go to' version.
Ps Loved the Spotlight, Into The Groove and Holiday New Edits too!

Being angry at or mocking fans for wanting all the old singles on streaming would be the equivalent of being angry in the mid 90s when the original 80s singles were reissued on CD (the Yellow singles). "But I already got them on vinyl!". AND?
What's the point in complaining about that? The more accessible her material is, for old and new generations, the better, right? And streaming is the most accessible format now.
No one is asking for all the old vinyls, cassettes and CDs to BURN in hell, let's also keep them, thank you very much.

Yeah I’m glad we have what we have but if Emily was an employee of mine she’d be in for an appraisal / disciplinary. It’s giving high maintenance unreliable employee who lacks consistency.

While I acknowledge the flaws here and there along the way, I don't share such a negative view... it's true we've lacked some particular promo mixes sometimes, it's true some releases like "Borderline" have been messy and it's true not releasing them as new to take advantage of Release Radar has reduce the impact on these releases a lot (again, we don't know if that decision was Warner on their own or Spotify and the rest of the platforms requested to not send old releases as new).
But look at her Singles discography on Spotify today. We're close now to have all of the singles there, which is a dream really. Most of them are the complete singles as they were released originally.
It's hard to believe now but not so long ago, only four years ago, her oldest digital single available but "Hung Up" (or "Sorry" depending of the territory). We've come a long way.
I think what really changed the focus on these old singles releases (and the remastered videos) was the change of direction after she decided to tour instead of doing the movie. The focus clearly changed a bit from that moment.
If anything, the remastered/upscaled videos is the most disappointing part at this moment, the fact that "LAP", "La Isla", "Vogue" and other monster iconic videos are still SD in 2024 is BAD.

What I really want is that they sort the singles correctly.
For example, moving Love Profusion and Don’t Tell Me from the albums section to the singles section.

I am still dissapointed that they didn't give us the full/movie version of This Used To Be My Playground. It feels like that might have been our last shot?
