Holy shit. This has officially become the longest and most hell-bent-on-product-dissatisfaction thread I've seen here.

If you don't like her live singing, then listens to the studio mixes.
If you don't like the editing of the film, watch a bootleg.

If you don't like the cover, but the digital format.

    Good god.

    Outta here.

For additions for things that are not in the actual original show, I absolutely love the Sparks at the bottom of the staffs during iconic.
I love that in the UB montage they don't focus solely on the celebrities, those fans who got to be onstage with Madonna get to not only have that EXPERIENCE but they are FOREVER a part of that. No one can take it away. I think that is so friggin cool.
I really do like the random midsong hair and costume changes, no shade. I really liked all of the outfits for the Rockabilly Tokyo section, and I got to see all of them.
Holy Water was shot SO WELL.

    Quoting the press release:

"Madonna has announced that her record-breaking MADONNA: REBEL HEART TOUR will be released by Eagle Vision on September 15 on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray complete with bonus content, and an audio CD of highlights from her much-heralded tour.

The Material Girl will also release a live album featuring 22 songs from the Rebel Heart Tour, available on double CD and digital download."

If we interpret this literally, they're saying we're going to get a highlights CD with the DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital video (like with Confessions and S&S), and there will be a seperate 2CD live album released as well.

That's great news for both camps: those who want the full show on two CDs, and those who want just the highlights. Yay!

(Not to mention giving collectors more product to buy )

I'm sure those recordings are somewhere. Maybe they are not edited for the VHS but I'm sure they exists.

I think the problem here is that (as always) they don't really know where those  recordings are. When Madonna was asked about the "Blond Ambition" Paris concert to be released, she told something like "When I find the recordings" and Alek Keshishian told that the tapes were lost. That the company was bought by other company, and this new company bought by a bigger one and nobody knew where the tapes were and that even the owner didn't know that they have them. And, months ago Madonna uploaded to instagram videos of her on a "warehouse" (I don't know if this is the correct word) and we could see lots of "Truth or dare" tapes that maybe were there for more than 20 years and nobody looked to them.

Other problem with this is that Madonna doesn't seem interested in releasing those things. She isn't interested on selling over and over again her past, she always looks to give something new. If she doesn't want to re-release her albums with bonus songs or make a decent compilation of her videos for "Celebration" why somebody would be interested in waste time looking for something like that if it won't be released?

The same way that we have the B-roll of "Vogue" or "Rain" I'm sure that the recordings of "The Virgin Tour" are there too. Why would they save those video outtakes and distroy the filming of the tour? Maybe someday we'll see it.

A friend of mine is Michael Jackson's fan. I remember talking with him about "The Bad Tour". I wanted to see it and told me that there was only a professional recording of one Japan Show and nothing more. Whe he died the London Show was released as a bonus DVD of the "Bad" album or something like that. Lots of people were surprised because they didn't know it existed. Later I read that it was for Michael Jackson's personal collection, was never intended to be released.

I think with "The virgin tour" will happen the same. And sooner or later (sadly I think it will be more later than sooner) it will see the light of day.

At the same time we gotta be careful we're not implying "you have bad taste, we know better". i mean I'm sure people have literally told her that "to her face" on instagram. We can joke and be extra on fan forums but to go to Madonna's and Aldo's instagrams or tagging them is too much for me.

It's her art and obviously she cares, and obviously she thinks she's going for the best, and she's also involved enough to give Aldo instructions on what she wants.

My guess is that she just doesn't have a firm grasp on digital aesthetics that much yet, like for us who grew up doing photoshop, we know what a generic lense flair, bad cropping, etc, looks like. It jumps at us. For people like her who are used to doing things differently it's likely not so obvious unless it's pointed out, but we gotta do it politely. Aldo is clearly learning and improving, he may not be ready for primetime but i'm rooting for him as someone else said.

I mean, let's also remember that she chose a fan to design her covers after we bitched at her about her artworks. It was a nice gesture.

And i'm not mother teresa but I play one on this thread.  so thats that.

I work for a company called Blueprint London. We specialise in designing and printing artwork for the Home Entertainment industry, and my client is Universal Pictures. As both an industry professional and fan I am surprised this artwork was chosen for the press release (if not the final product). I can appreciate the concept but the execution falls short. No need to dwell on it's shortcomings here, as they've already been addressed elsewhere in this thread.

Although I hope this isn't the final product, it would be very bad Marketing practise to announce a release date via press release showing one design, only to change it further down the line. It's confusing for fans, and the inconsistency would disrupt the sales momentum created by the press release in the first instance.

That said, I suspect most die hard fans have already seen the show either on Showtime or via YouTube. Waiting this long after the event is a mistake in terms of physical release potential. However, I suspect the sale of the TV rights were far more profitable than the number of units any physical release could hope to achieve. The sales of those rights usually impose an exclusivity window before they can be resold to another distributor, or commit to a physical release, which is why we've waited so long for the DVD.

A DVD/Blu-ray/CD is a nice memento for collector's, but it's not a money-spinner in this age. Remembering first and foremost that this is a business, I'd suggest it's increasingly irrelevant to compare the sales strategy of this release to any of her previous concert DVDs.

The inclusion of a double-CD is potentially a good idea - the additional manufacturing costs are negligible compared to the perceived retail value, and it gives reason to buy the physical release if you've already watched it on Showtime. That said, I find it hard to believe anyone who wants the audio wouldn't have already ripped it (or simply downloaded it) from the internet by now, which is why not including the missing songs feels like a wasted opportunity on the physical release.

I'm on the fence regarding TOAC. Yes, it's inclusion would've been a must-have for any fan; but then again it's increasingly mythical once-in-a-lifetime (or should that be twice-in-a-lifetime?) status makes it's even more special for those who got to see it. And in any case, it was a completely different show to Rebel Heart, so why would it be included in the Rebel Heart Tour DVD?

One further thought - I suspect TOC is still a work in progress; a demo version of a show Madonna hopes to tour later on in life. It might not necessarily be called TOC and the set-list will surely be refined; but why put out an official release for a work-in-progress now, which might cannibalise sales of a new, far more polished tour in the future?

Ultimately though, I'm a fan and I'm just grateful that we're getting a release. It's a brilliant show that deserves to be archived and remembered. Thank you again Madonna. I'm looking forward to it.

Hopefully the product will be great and include the full show and lots of extras cos fans have been super annoying honest and direct with this release. i expect a backlash regardless lmao. I even expect fans to complain that the editing wasn't changed to be more slow paced and why didn't she include all 342 surprises she did during the tour into the show to make it into a 4 hour show. â—”̯◔

Anyway I expect the release to be similar to all her other recent releases, but at least I can be appreciative of the fact that the show is already 123982349 better than MDNA Tour's raggedy film. So to me, mission accomplished already.
