  1. Yeah the fact they can't even give us unedited versions of the songs in the movie says a lot. Plus they re-created the original trailer and none of the outtakes from songs are used as I assume they didn't have those scenes anymore to re-create it. I think they did lose all the concert filming tbh, but often those things pop up unexpectedly
  2. Toby Phillips talked on the Paris show but I can't remember if it was him who also talked abut Japan or it was someone else. It was from the blog The Beats Within. Whoever ran that blog interviewed two people, Toby and someone else, a woman whose name I don't remember. One of them mentioned Japan and the other said they didn't think that had happened. Honestly going off memory as I read the interview only a couple of times and can't find the blog anymore. I wouldn't consider it 100% confirmed, but more a possibility. I have heard separately that Michael Jackson used the same company and also archived all his performances and Madonna had a habit of using many of the same people as him and we know she has many things archived and in storage. Plus back in 1990 it was reported Pioneer were originally going to get a compilation of shows from various countries for their Blond Ambition tour release and it would be an around the world compilation rather than one show. But again I would never consider it confirmed.
  3. No it was Jamesy who talked to someone from Nocturn, I remember it specifically. It's why it has never been considered 100% confirmed.
  4. This I am less sure of. The story was that David Fincher left the project and Alek came on. Alek has stated he was there during rehearsals of the tour and he is there in the airport when M lands in Japan. Possibly David was still around and left as Madonna decided to have Alek do the documentary and David the concert filming and maybe he didn't like that and left. Not sure but there is doubt around the Japan filming.
  5. I think it was madonnatv.com that confirmed Nocturn who shot the screen footage in the arenas/stadiums has every show from WTG onward archived. So the Paris shows likely exist in full.
  6. Yes. Truth or Dare was re-released on VHS in May 1992 by Live Home Entertainment and they included both bonus songs at the end of the movie. I got a copy from ICON fanclub back in the day.
  7. Toby Phillips who produced the concert sequences said otherwise. He also did cinematography and stated that he needed to get special permission from Madonna to change the lighting with gels and bring the brightness down, hence why the Paris news footage is darker and with deeper colours. Madonna had concerns the paying audience wouldn't be able to see the show properly and he had to compromise to make sure it looked good on film and good for the audience. It was a completely different crew that Toby was in charge of, just because Alek claims he only needed certain songs, doesn't mean he made the decision about which parts of the concert were filmed. I doubt he had any say, it was Madonna who decided that. He said all three nights were shot in full. I doubt Madonna would be willing to compromise her show for three nights just for a handful of songs. Yes it was shot on 35mm film. They shot the B&W scenes on 16mm and shot 250hrs, you think that wasn't expensive?
  8. According to Variety the creative differences were indeed about how the character should be portrayed so you may be right. Also correction the woman's name in the film was Roberta Guaspari not Tavares, I have no idea where I got that name from, unless there was a name change, but likely I got it confused.
  9. Yes it was the earliest title of the film, then 50 violins came next. Possibly like me, many thought Fiddlesticks was a horror film when paired with Wes Craven's name. Haha, I don't doubt that
  10. According to Goldie Hawn, she and Madonna were dumped from the project. So she would have been waiting an eternity for that one to go ahead. I do think she should have learned her lesson and worked with an actors director. She always did better with directors who could guide her and help her shape her performance. When she was left to her own devices, it never turned out well. I don't know why but I feel Jodie Foster could have gotten a great performance out of her, if she had had a project for her to do. In terms of Dangerous Game, that was a fluke as director Abel Ferrera used a lot of real footage from rehearsals when Madonna was literally being Madonna.
  11. Yes Fiddlesticks was the original title directed by Wes Craven. I thought it was a horror film when it was first announced but it was about Roberta Tavares and her teaching violin to inner city school kids. Madonna dropped out 2 seconds before filming over creative differences and Meryl Streep stepped in and the title changed to Music of the Heart. This was around the time she went brunette and did the Power of Goodbye video, that was the look she would have had in the film or similar. I have to say Rupert is basically saying the same as Griffin Dunne who said Who's that Girl? ruined his career. He was on an upward trajectory until that point. Griffin surprisingly has more anger over it than Rupert.
  12. I couldn't remember but sounds right. So yeah I think mostly the recording/mixing was done post Speed the Plow. Possibly she had already done some recording prior to September 1988. Not sure.
  13. While I still prefer to wait for official word from the family, that is if they are going to make any statement, it does seem likely he passed. My condolences to the family. I hope he had a happy life and lots of love around him and I hope the family can be together and be there for one another. It is sad that they have lost two family members so close together.
  14. She started working on the album proper after Speed the Plow. From around Sep 88. By all accounts it was fast process. I'm assuming she had most of the demo work done by Sep 1988 and it was mostly recording and mixing being done. In terms of the video we have the onset footage with clapper board that shows Jan 20, 1989. Is it possible they re-shot the video?
