Madonna has no talent as a director. Let's face it, she's no Streisand (and I don't like that woman). Should she let a real director do the job the film would probably be a hit.

Rescue me. Definitely. One of her best lyrics, a poem in its own right. What I don't understand is what makes you compare both songs, since they're so different sonically and one was a single and the other wasn't. The thing with Rescue me is that it has many bridges, I don't know if other people have noticed that. And somehow there's too much stuff in it: thunders, heartbeats, etc. But I love her raw vocals and it's a clear tribute to Aretha Franklin: "R E S C U E me" = "R E S P E C T". Spotlight should have been more up-tempo and the intro is too long IMO, but is good anyway. LOve those funky guitars and bells, which were Madonna's trademark sound for a long time.

Totally ‘Rescue Me’. The production and those vocals. ‘Spotlight’ is not a song I go back to often. It sounds too similiar to other songs of hers from that period that are just better.

I will always say this: Rescue Me is a masterpiece. This song is one of her best singles, underrated and painfully forgotten. 
I love Spotlight but is not perfect. 

That's something consistent about her since the early 80s to me,   she's always wore cross necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc...  I have a Catholic background as well and still think of myself as a good Catholic boy at heart.
 
Her cross jewelry she wore/wears always added more to her allure with me besides her beauty.  More often than not I found it downright sexy.
 
 
But I always wondered why she enjoys wearing it so much.  It reminds her of her childhood?  To be close to her mother who had the same name as her and sounded real religious?  Or as she said once she found it sexy a man without a shirt on it is on it.  Lol.  Paraphrasing there.   

Every Madonna's fourth and/or third single from Bedtime stories onwards flopped. I don't think ROL was "experimental", maybe it was for the mainstream. What what truly experimental was "Music", I mean, the Mirwaïs section (Orbit's songs are appalling here).

Oh well I can imagine the age of some of you, cause guys, if you were part of the game when IB or WTG or EVITA came out, you surely would have listened to them. And much more than once. Those soundtracks were connected to huge projects and media exposition for her and the tracks were all over. Radio stations pass even not her singles songs sometimes.
About The next best thing, I think it was one of the best compilations of 1999. That was my most clubby moment, so fond of that album, I lived in London and I listened to it a lot ... great stuff indeed: Beth Orton, Groove Armada, Mandalay

Thanks for this. Her most bizarre, cringey and embarrasing gig ever. I admire her guts for going onstage to do this. The disturbing image of her mounting a tiny tricycle and going in circles, clad in clown costume and pink hair, haunted me for a long time.
