Veronica-Electronica got a reaction from Voguerista in New Music confirmed with Stuart Price! from her latest IG post
Another fan of the AL rap here. I remember when I first heard snippet of it on the news (coverage due to her pulling the video) and being horrified by it, thinking it was lame. But I grew very quickly to love it. AL (the album) as a whole is one of the Madonna albums I revisit most.

AL the Album is a masterpiece I listened to it like two years in a row in a time when everyone of the songs spoke to me directly.
AL is such an amazing song that many Americans don’t get the same meaning every one else gets. So that’s why I guess it’s so controversial. I loved it since the day I heard it on the radio before the beginning of the end of the radio days.
AL is my number one album EVER PERIOD

I'm with you. I agree the rap is "tongue and cheek" so I never took it too seriously. I agree it's a bit awkward, but I absolutey love the remixes where the rap is sped up. It sounds great....

I may be alone on this but I absolutely LOVE AL (the track) from the first listen and it's still a song I NEVER skip when it comes on shuffle. The rap is tongue in cheek, and has become one of THE most iconic bridge among her songs.

I feel like sonically American Pie fits in with the Music album thanks to William Orbit’s production but its placement at the end of the album makes it feel out of place, like tacked on. Gone is a great album closer, in my opinion.
Had they placed it earlier in the track listing, say between I Deserve It and Amazing, I think it would have flowed more cohesively.
I know the trend is for bonus tracks to be relegated to the last tracks, although Madonna has bucked this trend before and since (with Into The Groove being placed in the middle of Like A Virgin and Extreme Occident being placed in the middle of the deluxe Madame X)

GONE is the perfect album closer.
In my opinion, American Pie neither fits, nor belongs on the Music album at all.

Despite being a worldwide hit and selling over 1 million copies, “American Pie” wasn’t featured on Madonna’s 2001 greatest hits compilation album GHV2. At the time, she said regretted including it as a bonus track on Music, so she was “punishing” it.
“It was something a certain record company executive twisted my arm into doing, but it didn’t belong on the album so now it’s being punished,” she told the BBC in an interview. “My gut told me not to, but I did it and then I regretted it so just for that reason it didn’t deserve a place on GHV2.”

Think the Interscope albums are her worst 3 albums - all 3 of them I think would have been crafted better before being released, had a more condensed stronger track listing, some production re-worked, mastering and mixing errors fixed before released, better single choices and better remixes - because of Warners input, guidance and control.
There are good moments and songs on all 3 albums but all 3 sound like mainly filler or demo's/ideas that had the potential to be made into something stronger.
They are not bad but the Warner albums are golden

Yes! Her first three albums had 8/9 tracks, Music had 10. most others had 11. I think there’s something to be said for editing and keeping it tight and concise instead of bloating the tracklist.

Veronica-Electronica reacted to alb69 in Madonna Songbook - new book
I made a linen hardcover for my madonnasongbook. For protection and I think the beauty within the book deserves a more luxurious cover. took some effort but I'm proud ;)
It's an exelent book, the foto's, layout and detailed text about the songs , music, writers , producers etc. is a good read. Makes you want to go listen to the songs again, specific remixes or mentioned inspirational songs.
Getting to know Madonna and her music since I was 12 in 1982 I still read new information in here
How many songs in total are described in there, actually ? @ggg

There were so many songs on the Interscope records so I forgive a little filler.

Indeed but she is the original performer unlike Fever Argentina and American Pie. It’s not just a financial decision it’s an ego thing too. Three covers on your second hits albums is not a good look. Especially when there are zero on your first. I said this in my original post.

I never knew that until today!
In Australia, Britney’s “(You Drive Me) Crazy” and Madonna’s “Beautiful Stranger” and “American Pie” were all physical singles. We were spoilt! 😆
