I don't think the editing of the video has anything to do with the images. The silence gesture is about  be quiet, like a dominatrix telling you what to do. (she is your mistress tonight) In the video , images from different scenarios and kinks appear while Dita is your MC and sings around them. It's like a cabaret or circus (Girlie show)
I disagree about the setting, I think is a motel, he has the jacket around the armchair, and she has her clothes next to them, like the just walk in some cheap motel where this tryst is happening.You can see the spare blankets, iron and the phone book in the back. that's not a home. The other picture they have together is in the mirror, and that's such an intimate couple moment but also showing power dynamics. He still wears a suit, like business clothes. Also pay attention to the underwear she has : is really basic, 50s style , not fine lingerie. It tells you about the time and the story of her.
btw he is Helmut Berger muse (and lover) of Luchino Visconti and a figure in european cinema and open bisexual . It's not by chance he was selected to  do this , like Rosellini and Udo kier.

Censorship in Japan is more about laws, politics, and legislation than public morality or personal preferences. A lot of these rules trace back to the Meiji Restoration, a time when the government was all about control and limiting freedoms. The Obscenity Law from 1907, part of the criminal code, is a good example of this and still shapes censorship today.
Something similar happened in Europe and its colonies with buggery laws, which outlawed same-sex relationships and other sexual acts. It took until 2003 for England and Wales to get rid of all remaining anti-sodomy laws through the Sexual Offences Act 2003. But many former colonies still enforce these laws, even though people are obviously still having gay sex.
America did their part with the puritan rules, roots to the mentality they still hold today, with legislation like the Comstock Laws or the famous Roth v. United States, that shift what could be obscene or free speech.
Japan, meanwhile, has a rich history of erotic art, like the famous shunga. But even with that artistic legacy and lots of traditional folk, old laws and the strong cultural tendency to avoid challenging norms,especially around modesty, have kept restrictions on showing genitals, pubic hair, and assholes It’s a bit ironic but it's about going against legal hurdles.

Maybe 2025 should be the year of vacations.

Oh totally! Anything similar now wouldn’t have the same impact. 
edited to add: another distinction is that Madonna was the most famous woman in the world at the time of Sex. While Kim Petras has her fan base, it wouldn’t be as shocking as a household name doing it. 

Someone said in the Sex Book thread that they couldn’t imagine any other pop star doing something like Sex now and I immediately thought Kim could! I can see lots of parallels actually, this would be a fun collab. 

Well I am a big AL fan, was obsessed with that whole era at the time and still appreciate it to this day. Hollywood remains a fave. I think my favourite scene in the video is her auburn hair pink silk pantsuit look. 

but then again I am a fan of Guy Bourdin’s work which was the “inspiration” behind it also
