Blond Ambition in Paris is one of the holy grail items for me. They claim that the whole show wasn’t filmed, only the performances that they intended to show in Truth or Dare. I find that kind of hard to believe, but who knows.

I've spoken to several of the film crew over the years and they all confirmed that all the Paris shows were filmed in full. It's a lie that they didn't film the complete shows. The lie was fuelled by one of the producers who was tasked with locating the film reels/tapes. They haven't found them yet so they falsely claimed that the shows weren't filmed. Maybe to cover their own back?

I've never shared this, but here are some comments from a discussion I had we Toby Phillips, the cinematographer:

It was three shows in Paris and we filmed all three in full, moving the cameras to different positions for each night.

We didn’t shoot anything that wasn’t “live”.

We used 3200 Kelvin stock and I’m pretty sure it was Kodak 5296 (500T)

There was a complete rig set-up for audience lighting.

Primarily we reduced the intensity of side lights crossing the stage to eliminate harsh shadows.  Controlling levels of some lights in various scenes so that there wasn’t massive overexposure / underexposure.  Otherwise I thought that the design had a great theatrical feel to it.  The follow spots on Madonna were put in different positions than normal (per my request) and had a light pink and softening gel added.  Each of the two follow spots was set carefully to be at the level required for each song and not to change so that there was never a need to change exposure on the cameras during the show.  This also required the very best follow spot operators, as there wasn’t a “hard edge” to the spots with the added gels, so hard to see if it was “on”.

Like many commercial jobs, the negative often sits somewhere for a very long time and not with the “owner”.  In this case I would assume that Madonna was the owner, as she funded the project.  Propaganda as the production company would have been responsible for protecting the assets.  The Post Group / LA is where we did the color correction over a couple of weeks.

I would think that the Post Group would be the first place to start when looking for the original negative.  However, because the film was “cut” to make the master print for the movie, the negative could have moved to another editorial company for that.

Dont get me started on BA and why it STILL has not had an official release post laserdiscs from 1990 !! considering how iconic it was/is and that it created the blue print for modern concert format-when they announced the campaign 3 years ago i thought this meant we would finally get some official live content (maybe bundled in with expanded releases as Prince estate have done) and NOTHING !! all people care about is those friggin DAD dubs instead like they were high art remixes ....

Thank you for this. I had a feeling the whole show would have been filmed. Didn’t she post a picture of her finding some footage from Truth or Dare a few years back? Perhaps they have finally found the light of day? Paris, I would assume, would have to be a full re-edit to make it into a full show, but this could be done easily.

Yeah, she posted pics of herself in a warehouse going through archives from Blond Ambition tour as well showing some reels of Truth or Dare. I tried to google the images, but all I can find images from this time. Though, I thought there was another time before this where she actually showed some reels?

I think the same... I remember an interview with Alek Keshishian published on a Spanish magazine (I can't remember if it was "Fotogramas" or others that doesn't exists anymore and he said that the concert was filmed in full. Years later they started with the "we have to find the reels" and even later the "We didn't recorded the show in full". In ten years from now maybe they'll say "I don't remember Madonna went on tour in 1990. "Truth or dare" must be an AI movie made by fans" :P

Prince is similar, limited singles/EPs on streaming. Same with Janet, Whitney etc. Considering, Madonna's output is amazing!

Janet has a lot of her singles streaming.

Rhythm Nation is pretty much all there, mix wise, Janet. has a few things but very limited mixes per single, Control is completely lacking.

It seems they uploaded the album instead of the single on Apple Music

I think this is Apple Music usual internal f**kery. It also happened with the "Like A Prayer" single at first, when they have the same title they mix them up and combine "editions" and it's a mess.

I'm sure it will be sorted in a few hours, but that's Apple Music's side, not her team or Rhino (for once).
