Madonna's landmark album LIKE A VIRGIN celebrates its 40th Anniversary on November 12th 2024.  The 1st single/Title track was released October 31st 1984. The album catapulted her to a WORLD superstar.  Let's poll Infinity members once again, asking your favorite edition, favorite tracks and videos from the album.  Let's also discuss our thoughts on the album and share our experiences in how we first came across this landmark album?  Were you there to experience the initial release or did you discover the album later?  Also, feel free to add some of your favorite images, live performances, remixes of the songs from this album.  I've included "Into The Groove" as part of the poll being it was the song that gained her international audience during this era.

Typo alert. The title track released as a single October 31st, 1984. Like A Virgin is a Halloween baby!

Yep!  Sorry about that. Brain fart!!!

Does it? I've never seen one

Not a proper music video. There was just a promo video that included clips of past videos. I don't really consider it a music video for the song that is why I didn't include it!  But I'll include it if it will make some happy! :)

Here's the video for people who aren't aware of it.  It was a Warners Promo video that wasn't played very much.

I love these Anniversary threads @Adonna! They are always so beautiful. Thank you!!!! :clapp::fire::jamming:

As for your questions: I became a full fledged fan in 1986. So, I didn't listen to Madonna's Like A Virgin album in full until several years after. Though I remember liking several of the singles at the time of it's release and I was definitely mesmerized. After I became a full fledged fan is when I bought the Like A Virgin album (the cassette lol) and I was just loving it!! The album cover is one her best. Her lacey look at the time was so catchy...especially how she layered all of her necklaces and bracelets. To this day, people have fun with this look and especially for Halloween. So iconic!!!

Sometimes I forget that Crazy For You is not part of the album, because I consider it SO great, it is a song that was a huge success here in Brazil, besides being in the same tune as Like a Virgin musically, you can see that it is from the same time. It's different from Beautiful Stranger, for example, which is very musically distant from Ray Of Light.

This is really fantastic. I've seen this before and had to do a double take thinking it really was Madonna!!  Just stunning!!

Kind of a funny story my first remembrance of that whole Madonna look from that era.....  I recall when I was in middle school MTV had AL TV for like an hour or two where they had all of Weird Al Yankovic's parody videos along with the video of the artist he parodied.

Madonna's Like A Virgin was obviously one of them.

I remember watching that AL TV with my Dad and he told me he could see that video was shot in Italy with where she was on the gondola.  That was the first time I saw or even knew what a gondola was.

Cool.  Do you know where this is?

Be pretty cool if this is the basement to your home

Oh I wish. lol  This display was pictured at Hard Rock Cafe's 40th anniversary Memorabilia Tour at Hard Rock Cafe, Times Square on May 18, 2011 in New York City. Not sure where it could be now.
