I think the biopic should be a book!

What year does part 1 go up to? I need to read this book.

Yes, as Adonna said the books end at 1980. It's around 400 pages I believe and ram packed full of information. I'm obsessed with it. I think she's had one of the most fascinating careers in music and Hollywood. I don't think there's been anyone as mistreated, dismissed and overlooked as she has. And fuck me, I think she's had more comebacks than any other soul.

does Cher tell in her book why Madonna is mean?

Not this book. The book only goes up to 1980. She might in the next book. I know she was pals with Sean Penn so she might mention it. Although she already has. She's said Madge is a genuis at what she does and very inventive but at a party M was just so mean to everybody. I can't remember where I heard this but there was something at M's wedding that made Cher want to throttle her. M had something that riled her up so bad. I don't know who but I know it was someone close to them all. He showed pictures BTS of the wedding.

Cher, early on said Madonna was rude to her.  This happened all during when Madonna was marrying Sean.  It's no secret we know Madonna can be obnoxious and I think that's the issue Cher had with her early on.  Back then, Madonna had more to prove and so my guess she pushed a lot of people's buttons. I'm sure at the time, Madonna didn't see it as her being rude or mean, but being very assertive and standing her ground. I can see that rubbing some people the wrong way.  Over the years, Madonna and Cher have become more friendly towards each other. I'm sure Madonna looks back and understands why Cher felt the way she did about her.

I get it it's a long process but M and her team started creating buzz around the biopic way too early and have kept it going for way too long with no concrete results. In my opinion that's a mistake. I'm sure it will be great when finished but it's been dragging on for years now.

She's actually giving us how a movie is made and some are still unhappy. Maybe the process is long, unfair and painful. Get over it. "The mistake" comes from being judgmental.

Let's be honest here.

Madonna is a bitch.

a book?? Who reads a book these days? no, I don't agree. I think that the ideal is a film and that it be directed by an experienced director and not an "amateur." For example, I would like Quentin Tarantino to be the director and I would like the actress to play Madonna to be Mikey Cyrus. I love that girl, her attitude is so similar to Madonna's and she is also a good actress. And she is beautiful by the way.

She can be a bit much sometimes, and it might not even seem like it's needed. But honestly, if she hadn’t been such a pain during her career, she probably wouldn’t be in the position she is now.

I'm tough, I'm ambitious, and I know exactly what I want.
If that makes me a bitch, okay.

I love Cher. Always have. I did a deep dive into her awhile back, listened to the albums, watched all the videos, Sonny & Cher episodes and so on. Was so much fun.

It made me realise that the claims Madonna did everything first is a bit misleading. There are alot of things Cher did that Madonna was inspired by I think. So much of it was on her 2 tv shows though, which is why it’s kind of buried and forgotten.

The one thing I will say about Cher is that she has never really made great albums the way Madonna has. Shes a wonderful singer with incredible songs but I just don’t think she ever approached music as a songwriter or with any desire to tell her stories. It was always other people’s songs slapped together into an album. So for that reason she’s never really stood out a musician.

Shes a very intriguing and inspiring person though. And an underrated vocalist imo.

Pure speculation but I kind of think Madonna was threatened by Cher. Cher was everything she aspired to, and of course she eclipsed her. But in the early days there was a rivalry there. Kind of like the Madonna/Gaga thing but reversed.

It’s very interesting that Liz Rosenberg “retired” and then went off to work with Cher. I’d love to know how Madonna honestly felt about that.

Totally. But I think Cher is too. They are both strong, outspoken women. So it’s not surprising they may have clashed once upon a time. Especially back in those days where women were more often pitted against one another. I’m sure they have a good laugh together when they see eachother as they would understand eachothers lives more than most people.

I'm not sure Madonna was really inspired by Cher in any way. I highly doubt Madonna has ever watched a Sonny and Cher show either. Still, both are strong women, and I can see how some of their actions as a superstar kinda over lapped, which no doubt can be seen as Cher did it first.

Anyway, I love them both. Love reading about your deep dive.  I agree that Cher's music hasn't been as great as Madonna's, but I will say I really love those comeback albums of Chers in '87 and '89.  Those two or three albums into the early 90's, were really good.  (Not Madonna good).  I like them better than the BELIEVE album.

Agreed about Cher's albums. I never have an album where I love EVERY song. Some of her strongest albums for me are 3614 Jackson Highway, Gypsies, Stars, Allman and woman, Take Me Home, Heart of Stone, Love Hurts and Believe. Cher for sure set the standards for the 'Madonna' mold. She was a woman who lived on her own terms, slept around, created controversy wherever she went. She was detested and beloved and still is it seems. To do all this in the 1960s and 1970s is insanely provocative. While still shocking and brave for the 80s and 90s it doesn't compare much.

She also came about in that era where most singers and female ones sang others songs and weren't usually allowed to write or produce their own songs. The songs she has written have been gorgeous (My song (too far gone)) She's no musician but she is a great pop star.

I forgot to add also. The era of the 1960s and 70s was very similar to now where the Album was an excuse to release the singles. Singles were the main focus and an album was just that extra way to make money. Whereas in the early 80s all that changed and albums became the main focus with singles there as a push. So I guess that's why Cher's albums are very hit and miss.

I had no idea Liz went to work with Cher? I don't think Cher has a big ego in the same way Madge does. She still has one but she's a lot more down to earth and calm. Maybe Liz got sick of the circus?

Some of her vocals on the Cher show blew me away. I knew she was a good singer but never knew the extent of it. Wow.

Actually, this isn't true.  Liz was working with Cher, years before she retired completely in 2015.  Along with representing Madonna and Cher, she also represented.... Michael Buble, Stevie Nicks, Prince, Rod Stewart, Carly Simon, and Ashford & Simpson.

I’m not sure what happened with Liz but we can only imagine there are big differences in working with Madonna verses Cher.

So is she working with Cher now or no? And where did this story come from because I’ve heard it a lot.

She has an amazing and very distinctive, recognizable voice, with great live vocals. I agree that she's absolutely underrated as a vocalist. She had a lot of things going for her, so the vocals sometimes went unnoticed, but they are one of her strong points.

To clarify, Liz didn't leave Madonna to represent Cher . Liz represented a number of people before she retired in 2015.  Cher and Madonna were just among a number of people she represented over the years before she retired.

No, Liz is retired.  Liz had worked with Cher all through the 2000's, specifically during her Farewell Tour (the first one!... LOL!)  I'm not sure why people think Liz left Madonna for Cher.  It's totally fabricated. In fact, if you google Liz, it says she retired completely in 2015, listing Cher and others that she once represented.

It’s a big myth in Madonna fan world then. I have heard this over and over for years and it came from big Madonna fans too.

What’s funny is that when Believe came out people said she used autotune because she couldn’t sing
