Holiday '91 not released as CD single?

Recommended Posts

Just a question really. Been going through a lot of Madonna's CD singles and noticed that the re-release of Holiday in 1991 was never issued on CD - am I correct? If so, it seems odd, considering at that time everything was being issued on every format (except for Oh Father). Anyone know why this may have been?

Makes it a bit annoying to have missed out.

The cd single for that release is The Holiday Collection but a uk promo with the same cover of the vinyl was available.

Ah thank you, I have that one but never realised that the Holiday Collection counts as the actual Holiday single.

Sold my collection ten years ago but just started replacing the CD singles I used to have. Bit daunting, but I really missed them.

On this subject I’ve wondered- when it was released in 91 was it the standard version or the IC mix? Like which one got airplay?

It obviously wasn’t officially rereleased here in the states but I remember the IC mix getting some airplay summer 91, around the same time as Truth or Dare and when the video was being played heavily on MTV.

No, the single had original version on each format. No Immaculate Collection version version. The single was mainly a Uk release with multi formats but was also available in some other european countries. It was released in June 1991

The UK 12'' Single had the album version but the B-Sides were listed as 'Where's The Party (Remix)' & 'Everybody (Remix)' with the remix  credits from YCD. I though we were gonna get the 2 rare edits or the full length YCD Remixes but it was just the original album versions. I always wonder if there was an error or the remixes pulled last minute.

The Holiday collection CD used the original album version.

the UK promo CD Sam 800, used the original 7” edit.

the q sound mix was only issued on the immaculate collection album.

I'm pretty certain it was an error. There is a shorter edit of the Q-Sound Mix that was released much later. It's possible it was intended for the 7" release but due to the major fuckup, it was never actually released.

I think no one except for the fans actually noticed that there was a mistake.

Not me getting excited rushing home, thinking that I might be hearing those super rare YCD Edits for the first time.

What a fun era that was for the UK. The Holiday collection was so unusual on CD, A great idea though to add in some extra missing tracks from TIC. The Holiday picture disc was beautiful. We got the Rescue Me cover for the re-issue of Crazy for You and then a stunning Rescue Me cover. Such great marketing at the time.

It's called cut and paste, as it was easy and the cheapest option 😀
