10 worst missteps of Madonna´s carreer

For me, it's all subjective because I can see instances where better choices could have been made, to help make something more successful than it was. Though, it's not always a guarantee or in the end wouldn't make much of a difference to her career.  After all, it's not like Madonna has or is suffering financially or career wise.  Sure, she isn't as popular and not selling as many records, but she's pretty comfortable where she's at. She still calls the shots and more than not always able to gain attention for just about anything she does.  As fans, we want everything she does to succeed and break records.  However, she's been at this for over 40 years.  No one is ever to go on this long and continue to keep up with the success of their past achievements.   One big difference though, Madonna is still well sought out and revered, there's always a chance for some sort of resurgence.  Just look at Dolly Parton and Cher right now. While they aren't breaking the same records they had in the past, but they are very publicly known among the public and still doing things they want to do if not more.  I see Madonna following down that similar path, depending on what she wants to do.  As for Madonna, I yet see her resign to acceptance of just being a legacy act, only depending on her back catalog just yet.  But their are signs of it happening. The Celebration Tour really was a nice throw back to her 40 year career, and most of the public loved it.  Her newer stuff will never gain the same attention and success. That's just a fact. We can hope and wish, but I wouldn't expect it to happen.  Like Cher and Dolly and it seems the Rolling Stones, Madonna has no interest in just retiring. So I see her continue to doing more things and only will her health or death will stop her.

At the time I didn't like the 2003 VMA Performance (ironically this person's #1 misstep) but have come to think a lot more fondly about it over time.  I mean for one thing she was more than twice Britney and Christina's age at the time but looked naturally to be around the same age as them.  Pretty impressive on it's own.

That list was last updated in 2012.  Wonder if that user feels any different today?

On a side note that seemed like a cool little old school blog spot by a genuine fan.  Is that your page?

ricardo gomez as her photographer and guy oseary as her manager

I'm sure Madonna would greatly disagree and anyone looking at the money Oseary has made for her, would say it's hardly a misstep.  Certainly, they have had some business deals/products that didn't turn out like they wanted, but more than not, he's been a very profitable manager for her.  He's her BUSINESS Manager, so of course, he's going to look for the best deal that will benefit Madonna as well as him.  Let's remember he was behind the 360 Deal and the Super Bowl. And most likely there are so many other things throughout the last twenty years that were far more financially successfully for her than it would have been if it wasn't for him.

Give Me All Your Luvin and Bitch I'm Madonna being released as singles... I never knew a person (hardcore fan or not) that genuinely love those songs. I remember a lot of casual admirers at the time asking "WTF, she used to release great things". It was a really turn off moment for a lot of people.

It's a shame because Hard Candy and MDNA have awesome songs but their single choices were a joke. I think it's curious how she became so self-celebratory, out of nowhere.

Of course today I enjoy these songs in an unpretentious way, but they were not a clever move.

Bitch I’m Madonna is a classic and should’ve been the first single.

This was a great read. Interesting it was posted in 2012. Because I can guarantee only a few if any of these would still be top 10 if we also include the last 12 years....

Like if the Britney/Xtina moment was #1, I'd love to see their reaction to Madonna feat. LMFAO, Psy, that Maluma performance. Slung Up on Tokisha etc.

Wait, I just remembered "Hey You" was prior to 2012. I demand a recount.

I'm a hardcore fan and I love Bitch I'm Madonna.

The biggest misstep of Rebel Heart era was not releasing Bitch I'm Madonna as the lead single. Out of 24 tracks on that album, BIM was the only potential hit.

MDNA however... The only redeemable part of that era was the Super Bowl performance, and even that was dragged down by its association to MDNA. She should've headlined in 2010 with a (high quality) dark electronic album ready to go.

I think my thoughts on her missteps, are her barrier between art and having a fan base. I think in that respect she didn’t really listen to us. She chose her art. TOD, IGTTYAS… two great tours. Releasing a docu and behind the scenes… and just sort of not caring about a proper tour release. There are so many aspects of it but I’m not sure if I can blame bad management.
I respect her strive to do art and project herself in artistic ways, but she sure has a funny way of sharing it with the people that stood by her the longest. We never really got that. We’ve gotten a lot over the years, but it could have been a lot better in terms of output.

That said, she will be who she is, whether it’s bad direction or her just not wanting to do so. Can’t fault her. But… big mistake. Huge. I’m 40 and wanting BAT Paris from TOD. Big. Fail. LOLOLLLLLLLLLLLLL

The only thing that kept Bitch I'm A Madonna a top 40 hit and maybe top 10 is Radio Airplay.  Do the Math!  Radio won't play any pop artist under a certain age.  Yet, BIM was HUGE on almost any other platform. If Radio was playing the song by the time the video hit, she would have definitely had a top 40.

Another STAN who loves the song.  Very Madonna... the woman who is able to evolve with time.  Too bad some of her fans can't!  They still want dated 1980's song that no one will play or listen to in 2015/16 let alone 2024.  And this is coming from a HUGE 80's fan.
