Not sure about American Life video but that Black Madonna concept would have had MAJOR backlash. Very glad she did not do that.

Erotica and AL albums and to a certain degrees their respective singles were objectively speaking commercial flops. I consider Erotica to be among her best albums but to the general public and to critics they were career enders. Thankfully that wasn’t the case. 

Not continue to be managed by Freddy and then also Caress are more significant issues. Not having a publicist like Liz Rosenberg in todays social media insanity also constitutes a problem in my opinion.

Including Evita and the 2003 VMAs as 'missteps' is just wild to me. 

Most things happened for a reason so it's silly to quibble. In an alternate reality though, I wish she'd toured Like A Prayer, kept the American Life video and had had new music ready to go as the Celebration tour reached its end.

1. Not going on tour for either Bedtime Stories or a joint tour for BS and Ray of Light in 1999.

That has really led to a lot of her absolute career highlights never getting a live performance. To think she sacrificed the tour for another flop movie like The Next Best Thing…

2. The release strategy for American Life and pulling the original video. There are a lot of ways this era, which arguably marked the end of her career in the US, could have been saved. I think the way things went were unfortunate but could have been avoided.

3. The lazy visuals starting in 2005. Her videos were lacking in quality and possibly kept some of her songs from being bigger, especially with the rise of YouTube.

4. Releasing GMAYL as the MDNA lead single. This was truly the end for her career in the rest of the world.

5. Missing the moment when it was time to take care of her legacy and cash in on that (like her peers successfully do).

There are so many things she chose to do that I'm sure people around her advised her not to do, but she's willfully stubborn, isn't she?

Film roles for example; The Next Best Thing was a real clunker and was done instead of taking a hugely successful album on the road. Yes, it spawned a hit with American Pie, but she's never performed it and spoke of her resistance to even record it. 

Beautiful Stranger was a great track, but was it written for the Austin Powers or did it already exist in some form and could've wait for the next album and leave enough time for the Ray of Light singles release to complete its course with Skin? 

Swept Away and the stilted cameo in Die Another Day. The awful turn in Will and Grace. This was not a good set of decisions. The short film for Star, in contrast, was much better than those. 

Body of Evidence and the Sex Book. Always wondered if the Erotica album would've done better had it been packaged with a booklet that would've essentially been the Sex book. Rather than something sold separately. There really was no need for Body of Evidence, it was just overkill, which she should've seen with Who's That Girl film, tour, single and soundtrack album. 

I'm Going to Tell You A Secret was completely unnecessary instead of just releasing the tour, which she should have known given how fans felt about Truth or Dare and Blond Ambition not being released properly. 

Choosing Oh Father and Dear Jessie as singles. It really damaged her single run, rather than having Shep mix the heck out of Cherish and Til Death Do Us Part to compete with chart trends at the time.

I'm sure all of this had already been considered and she chose her way anyway.

Doing it was a great move. A huge gay icon, at the gayest of events was brilliant.

Unfortunately she didn't understand ESC and gave us a very political and off key performance. Lip synching is okay when your voice hasn't been used for a while.

If she'd chosen to do Vogue and God Control instead, it would have brought the house down, and Madame X would've sold better.

I was in shock because she did almost the same performance at the met gala and she sounded great, but yes it was a year before Eurovision so it could be lack of singing for a year...

2008 She stopped carrying about good nusic videos making GI2M the elle photoshoot and the eras were not themed anymore

Then horrible Give me all your luvin/Mdna. The tour was amazing but also too dark for stadiums

I got dragged by the macadamias in the Lady Gaga thread for saying exactly this. 

Get Together and Jump deserved soooo much more. GITM and Celebration also. 

Also, I'm not into the Anitta duet at all, but people were all over her socials begging for that to be a single with a video. The answer: "I've run out of money. I need to find the financing."....Esther, please... Please, Esther!

It's a shame because MDNA and Rebel Heart have awesome songs but their single choices were a joke. I think it's curious how she became so self-celebratory, out of nowhere.

Of course today I enjoy these songs in an unpretentious way, but they were not a clever move.

Her notable first misstep indisputably is releasing SEX before/during Erotica. The album had to come out first to sell in great numbers, then spice it up with SEX later. But she instead did both to make a fucking big shock value. And she did, she nailed it however the album was left to suffer till this day. Erotica streaming numbers are humiliating!

Making her 2012 tour a tour promoting MDNA instead of a tour promoting her 'Celebration' hits compilation

This is it. Its like when she left Warner she was in charge of all stuff she usually is not and it became obvios that to stay on top Madonna had a team of people who left

One of her mistakes because she has many and it is okay to make mistakes because only perfect beings do not make mistakes and in this world there is no one perfect. Well, going back to what I said, one of her biggest mistakes was doing that series of collaborations with B-class artists like Tokischa, Saucy Santana and others whose names I honestly don't even remember.

I never thought it was right that Madonna, being one of the biggest artists in music, would stoop to collaborate with these artists. I wouldn't have been shocked if she had collaborated with legends like Paul McCartney, Christina Aguilera, Petshop Boys, etc. but collaborating with these artists was a very bad idea as they never helped them reach number 1 which seems to have been their initial goal.

Especially this woman, Tokischa, one of the most vulgar artists in music. And I'm not exaggerating when I say this, because her lyrics promote free sex, prostitution, drug addiction, immoral behavior, etc. And right now Madonna is a respectable lady and I never thought it was a good idea for her to associate with this... woman who is not well regarded even in her own country.

err Erotica doesnt exist without the Sex book and The sex Book doesnt exist without erotica. The album might have flopped but the music is still amazing and stood test of time and she quickly bounced back with Bedtime Stories-Evita-ROL

It was also the height of grunge and anti pop.
