Versions - Whats the obsession ?

I still get confused with all the different versions to especially the debut album singles

Collecting is a thing for all ages and generations.

People collect basketball cards, stamps, funko pops… my Nan used to collect souvenir spoons from every place she visited. My mum used to collect the bones of dead animals and birds she found in the backyard. I had a friend who was a grown man that collected Barbie dolls. Often these things is about connecting back to your youth. I think that’s largely the case with Madonna fans.

Collecting digital stuff is no different. And people get to a point where they want their collections to be complete. I collected pretty much every remix of Madonna’s at one point. I rarely listen to the obscure ones but I’d have FOMO knowing I didn’t have them all. For sure, it’s about crazy but whatever. People have all kinds of weird idiosyncrasies.

Naturally, as a hardcore/ride-or-die/life-long fan, you want your collection to be complete (and correct - as streaming has quite a few wrong uploads on there).

And while I'm not huge on remixes (though there are a couple handfuls I love), the earlier work (especially in the 80s) had not just 'remixes' persay, but alternate mixes, from 7" to 12" etc., that were like entirely new versions of the original song, many of which were used in videos, performances, etc. I adore some of those other mixes far more than just the original album mixes. So for the early work, it's incredibly important to have. As for the 90s, those were some of her best dance/club remixes.As for access to them on streaming, even if just accessed by hardcore fans, I think it's still good business to have them easily available.

Now, as for some of those mixes, as you said, that are just about a different 2 second fade, that I can't keep up with.
And I don't have any interest complaining about a supposedly "bad" mix on some compilation.

Madonna can go fuck herself, and I say this as a fan since the 80s.

but Kylies new stuff is absolute gash!   Personally I'm all about her Deconstruction Albums, where her talent shone through, Can't even bear to listen to Padump

I understand wanting remixes, demos, anything unreleased. But reissues of the same songs I've had for 80 years because they are put through Q sound or Mike Dean's garbage disposal is a mystery to me. 

That and collecting the same magazine cover from 55 countries. Love her down, but like....

Mike dean did good job on Finally but I refuse to believe he didn't work on any else of the remasters we have gotten, I believe Everybody (7" remaster) was done by him... 

Oh and the crappy sound quality of the video version of the ralphi house mix, I believe that they ripped both Don't Tell Me (Thunderpuss Mix) and that from yt and they probably already downloaded the audio which is at mid quality and from there ripped it at worst quality and forced Dean to master whatever is that weird audio version of the mix 

I literally like did this myself and it sounds exactly like the Finally Enough Love mix master 

Maybe I should be her new remasterer...

EDIT: Omg I just listened to mine which is a 70 kbps OPUS compressed and EQ'd like the Finally Enough Love version and mine still sounds better and fuller I'd say🤣

But my personal problem is I think I’m going deaf. I can’t tell the difference in any remaster to the original album version. 🤪

When I found out they were contacting members here for old material I was floored. As someone who used to download her remixes from Kazaa, Limewire, and Audiogalaxy at 128kbps I'm probably not the right judge for this topic😄

I love different versions, edits, radio edits, and fade. But sometimes I give a pass for those versions which fade slightly differ from other official versions like wtf. I would keep it if the fade is on the other part of the verse but if its the same with 2-5 seconds discrepancy, okay but no.

 

I would keep it if the existing version has a mixing with the other song like Dear Jessie.

I can't remember the specific threads but apparently members of this forum were contacted by either her team or the record company for certain material in the best quality they could get. It might have been remix videos? Maybe it was the FEL thread. If anyone here remembers or can link to those threads, please chime in.
