I don't think we ever got it on DVD. It'd be cool if they could find the missing performances and film masters of the show and remaster it. But probably, we'd get a transfer from the DVD master (for the canceled 03/04 boxset if it was done) if a release ever happened.

Yes, definitely, as long as the original setlist is complete. And BAT should be released too, or should I say "re-released", because I have the laser-disc although I could never ever watch it OMG.

This was shot on film, so unless it was edited on tape, we should be able to get a Blu-ray (I prefer 4k, but beggars can’t be choosers).

Well if all the music videos were edited on tape this probably was too 

The 40th anniversary of the Like a Virgin album was yet another missed opportunity to release a super box set of the era containing vinyl, booklet, posters and Blu-ray of the tour.

I think it is very unlikely that we will ever have the complete show. From what I read somewhere, Warner would have "thrown away forever" the songs that did not make it onto the VHS. The decision would have been made to reduce the cost of producing the tape. If they kept all the songs, they would have needed to use a 120-minute VHS tape for less than 70 minutes of shows. So it was cheaper to cut 2 songs and make the show fit onto a 60-minute tape.

We know circa 1983 Madonna's contracts for requested a copy of video from any of her club dates and I suspect in her archive she may have a lot of footage which is likely to include the unedited Detroit show

Question:

So the version we have starts with her "dream" monologue before the title card goes straight into "Dress You Up."

The one used for the live video starts hyping the show with the Madonna fans outside the arena, am I the only one thinking this adds more hype to before the concert starts?

It's to say the least outrageous she's not recognizing Like a virgin 40th, let alone the Virgin tour, and we are expecting an Ep from Bedtime stories instead. Comparing the two albums it's obvious which one of the two made an impact and has a main relevance in her career.

So much laziness and no legacy respect... even 80''s bands or acts with very little career or who were merely "a one hit wonder" have restored/reissued and expanded their albums and shows from the past.

Agree. I’m too lazy to google but at this early point of her career she didn’t have the control to get final edit hence missing songs ( I’d read what they taped was subpar but 40 years later we all know borderline doesn’t sound the same live) and saucy moments from VT. I DO think we will eventually get BA diarrhea of footage; both video and TOD film footage.

The only chance is (and if) we get the Like a Virgin expanded album with a bonus DVD. 

DVD's and Blu-ray's are not popular anymore, I can't see a specific tour release in those formats nowadays, even classic ones like The Virgin Tour and The Blonde Ambition Tour.

I would be happy if one day a good soul leaks the 3 missing Detroit performances.

No. DVD looks shit. It was shot on film but just like everything else Warner or Madonna do, They just through that shit away. Otherwise if they had the film They could release it in 4k or HD at least in a decent 5.1 and Original stereo mix. A simple scan and clean up is around 20,000 usd. But i guess that's too much money.

ive never understood why this didnt get a dvd release when GS and ciao italia did ? does she really hate it that much - i mean its a very amoeba version of herself but at the end of the day its her FANS who will buy this and not her ? the sound mixing on it too was amazing - i have the lasersdisc and the PCM audio is fantastic ... another long line of wasted opportunities ....

It's a glorious sound mix. It's very much a missed opportunities.
