Definitely not fact, she has an amazing voice, you just haven't listened closely. If we are being serious about vocal strength, she has a better voice than Madonna lol

I'd love for Cher to explain what was the storyline behind the "If I Could Turn Back Time" video, where she's running around half naked on a navy ship. The nuance of the plot was lost on me somehow .

I mean, if Madonna did it, there would have been at least a small storyline that would justify the reason she did it. I can't think of any storyline to wear a nude body suit and twerk on Beatleguise with a sports finger.

I was really too young to understand it fully. I heard everything Madonna said ... and I understood what she talking about to a degree, even my grade school friends would repeat info or make jokes about stuff they no doubt heard from members of their family. Obviously 'gay" was something EVERYONE in my age group knew about, and it wasn't a good thing to be. but the total picture of the epidemic I never got until I looked back.
My grandmother put up her first born son for adoption when she was young. Later, when I was 10 or so, either he found her or vice versa. I wasn't yet aware of my own gayness, but when I met him and his wife and two kids I knew instantly he was gay. The first gay person I met in real life.  In less than 3 years he died of AIDS. He made up some story of being raped by some guy one night... but we all knew the truth, he was just gay. How this didn't affect me negatively in my maturing, I don't know, But I think children are preprogrammed to be resilient for survival purposes. Something that fades with time. I never really thought about it in my sexual encounters.
I do think that the association of HIV/AIDS with gay people did permeate my idea of how I perceived promiscuous people, specifically gay men. Anyone seeming like they were easy or like they got around was an immediate turn off for me. But I myself would go out and get lit and take guys home somewhat regularly. Pure hypocrite.  I can even remember being in the middle of having sex and being disgusted by the person who I was having sex with, who was allowing me to be inside them. I think this idea persisted up until kinda recently when the younger generation started posting their nudes in public all over the place.    Or every single guy having an onlyfans account. Coming to the realization that sex isn't dirty, it's natural. EVERYONE DOES IT. Who you do it with or how often or with how many people isn't to make someone looked down upon. Don't get me wrong, there are risky behaviors we still need to pay attention to and be aware of. But if you removed all STD's from this world, the idea of promiscuity being bad or dirty would fade a bit. There would still be some notion of trying to have a "pure"or virginal partner by men, but that's a whole other issue.

Yes i just finished watching the tv drama "Its a Sin" which is incredibly powerful and moving.. all about a group of friends and  the impact of Aids in the 80's. I absolutely recommend it.
I was a teen in the 80's so although aware i wasn't really affected until 89....like a prayer and then of course Blond Ambition. I read the insert from the album and laughed as she told everyone you never really get to know guy until you ask him to wear a condom...and the "hey you don't be silly put a rubber on your willy" and  she did educate me as a 16-17 year old in a way that leaflets couldn't

SHE DID NOT HAVE TO GIVE US A FUCKING WHIPLASH! This has to be one of the better upscales of her videos, with Erotica and Music. The colors, the deep blacks and the natural whites, the details that they didn't destroy like the man's pores and Madonna's eyelashes. Stunning!
    Gonna make another comparison video!

I just said this in another thread, but, it seems like Madonna never gets enough credit for everything she's done. And here's something else...
Madonna Was So Happy Daughter Lourdes Went to College, She Donated $50,000 to the School, SUNY Purchase
Madonna’s kids are growing up and going to school, some have graduated or least made their way through a curriculum.
The Material Mom must have been happy that daughter Lourdes, aka Lola, went to the State University of New York at Purchase. She donated $50,000 to the Purchase Foundation in 2018.
Lola attended the school between 2016-19 and was in the dance program. Recently she signed with Creative Artists Agency.
The SUNY Purchase donation turned up in Madonna’s 2018 tax filing for her Ray of Light Foundation. In addition the school donation, Madonna also gave the Lycee Francaise on Manhattan’s Upper East Side a little bonus of $10,000. She’s been doing that for years, and sending her kids there. I’m sure they say, Merci beaucoup.

Madonna’s still heavily involved in the shady Kabbalah Center. She donated  $160,000 to them. Madonna’s given Kabbalah millions and millions over the years despite the group’s scandals and financial investigations.
All together, the very generous singer donated $725,000 to various charities including $5,000 to her friend, Rosie O’Donnell’s Broadway Kids (she should give more there, frankly), plus $200,000 to a group called Creating Hope International in Dearborn, Michigan. They describe themselves as assisting local organizations that work at the grass roots level in Afghanistan and India.

    Not fascinating but humbling:
There's still a lot in between Madonna and Rihanna:
Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd.
Plus, there's stuff still ahead of M: Beatles, Elvis, MJ.

All of which are sonically and culturally much more relevant than Rihanna has been so far. I say this, and I actually like the girl. But she is still not "there" yet, if you know what I mean. (Hell, even the Gag holds more cultural relevance.)

That being said, the whole comparisons with other stars and singers really gets on my nerves.

I Am Because We Are is a 2008 documentary film about AIDS orphans in Malawi. It was directed by Nathan Rissman and written, narrated, and produced by Madonna through her production company Semtex Films.
The film premiered at the 7th annual Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, on April 24, 2008, and at the 61st annual Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France, on May 21, 2008. The film also headlined the 2008 Traverse City Film Festival. On December 1, 2008, it premiered in the U.S. on the Sundance Channel for World AIDS Day.

I Am Because We Are depicts a journey in the second poorest country in the world, Malawi. In a country of 12 million people, so many children without parents has caused irreparable damage. The film attempts to explore what is going on in the heads and hearts of these orphans, and what the future holds for them. Suffering from AIDS, infections and malnutrition, most of the children in Malawi are in need for food, medical care, but also for proper education and guidance. More than just a story about Malawi, I Am Because We Are provides the audience with keys to help changing the situation but also spreads hope for a better world.

Let's post about Black History intersected with Madonna. People who have influenced her, performances that focused on social justice, artists that she has worked/collaborated with, Lyrics , Songs, Videos... Anything related.
    I'll start.

Although this song comes off like a B-Side on the record, it's performance at The Girlie Show really shines as a statement piece.

How a Madonna fan can say that? lol

I don't think COADF is not underrated at all. I absolutely love that album (except Push).
In terms of overrated, the only one I'd agree to is Madame X. A couple songs are alright, but 90% of it is virtually unlistenable to me. I can't understand anything but English and even if I understood other languages, the robotic voice irritates me. I appreciate the variety of "world sounds" and I appreciate the originality of the album, but sonically I don't enjoy it at all, can't understand what's she's singing in a lot of it and due to the vocoder, it doesn't even sound like her to me. The majority of the songs actually annoy me and grate on my nerves listening to it, and that rarely ever occurs to me and never up until that point with a Madonna album. I'll never forget listening to it with friends, us all shaking our head in disbelief, laughing and asking "really"? I couldn't wait for the album to be over. I literally hated it. Such a change from Rebel Heart where I absolutely adored half the album like crazy (thought the other half was just ok). Anyways, different strokes for different folks. ???‍♂️
