lennyleonard reacted to deathproof in Very honestly, has Taylor Swift surpassed Madonna all-around?
She has number 1 records and songs, and high grossing tours.
Shes successful. No doubt about that.
But her artistry and creative expression is not in the same league. And there will always be that distinction. So no, she has not surpassed Madonna.

Patti is a bitter, old hag who can’t get over the fact that Madonna nailed Evita. She tears her performance in it down every time she gets the chance, even after admitting she has never seen it.
    She is insufferable.

I think she's probably extra bitter that Madonna did do such a good job with Evita despite otherwise being a generally bad actress. There are so many worse singer-actors and yet, for 25 years, Madonna is still on the tip of her tongue at all times.

When I woke up today, I didn't plan on making this post. I was actually fine. September 9th. My mother's birthday.

She passed away 5 years ago from breast cancer. The time between her diagnosis and dying was 5 months. She had no chance, it was too late and she made her peace with it, refusing chemo and choosing to be at home being administered morphine.

She passed away the morning after my birthday, living just long enough to give me that day. Today, on her birthday, I was fine. But I couldn't stop thinking about Promise To Try. That scene in Truth or Dare where she lay on her mother's grave, talking to her and wondering what she looked like now. And I broke like a piece of glass...

And that's how the day kept going. Little by little, the song kept playing in my head..."will she see me cry when I stumble and fall"... And every day I do stumble and fall, but I keep getting up, even when at times I just feel like laying there. "Keep your head held high, ride like the wind, never look behind". And I try to keep going and never dwell on the past. Never feel nostalgic, keep moving forward, never stay one thing too long and never let anyone feel sorry for you.

"Can't kiss her goodbye, but I promise to try". I tell myself I can let go, that I don't need to be comforted by tales of heaven and angels. That I'm ok with death being the end of it will help me find that closure. That I need to let her go. "But it feels like a lie".

And it kept playing in my head. Bringing me to tears each time today. Just one song. The power of Madonna's writing and vocal delivery, emoting so much. Intricate simplicity. Grief. A universal feeling we can all understand, but perhaps only mire so with this song if you've experienced losing your mother.

I don't need to listen to Madonna's songs everyday. I'm no longer a teenager in the early 90s. I've been there and done all of that. I grew up with her music in the 80s. But I feel I've lived through her music; I've sat on a plane fleeing an abusive situation with "You'll See" playing in mind, giving me the strength I needed. I've left home at an early age with "Oh Father" in my head saying "you can't hurt me now". I've gone place to place trying to find safety with "Drowned World" (travelled round the world, looking for a home). But today, Promise To Try hurt a little more than it usually did.

No, I don't need to listen to her music every day. I can go months without playing her songs as I get on with my life. I don't need to do any of those things because I can just think of her songs and I experience them because they've had a lifetime to bury themselves deep within me, waiting for the right moments to burst forward.

It's not easy. My mother died last October way too soon and it takes much much less than anything specific to make me cry at a moments notice.
I always felt bad for Madonna after learning about her mother dying, but I realize now that I could in no way understand what she really felt. And even now, in my position, I actually still can't understand completely because I had so much more time with my mother than she did. Her loss must feel so much more like something missing, something she never had then something she had, cherished, took for granted at times, and then ultimately lost.

    Thanks for sharing

I don't think they were intentional in the first place?
Keep in mind we're talking about mid 00s (2005 exactly) when the iTunes store was rising and Warner quickly had to put together a whole digital catalogue for the store (and later Amazon Music and the rest), when Madonna and Apple reached an agreement to add her music to the platform before the "Confessions" release (the infamous video chat announcement with Steve Jobs).
The easiest thing to do would have been ripping all the original CDs as they were, right?
Well, Warner don't work like that (other labels do). They always used (use?) original digitalized master files for the digital stores and now streaming, never CD rips. For some internal reason NO CD rips.
So the team in charge for Madonna's iTunes/digital catalogue just put together the albums tracklists with whatever they had available. The shorter Q-Sound Mix of "Holiday" wasn't created for the "Madonna" digital album, it existed already from a random 2001 Warner compilation. The original Q-Sound mixes masters of "Lucky Star" and "Borderline" must be lost or damaged, cause they have never been used on digital and they even found alternate ones for "Celebration". So the "New" mix and the album version were used for digital "TIC".
Also remember for years the extended remix of "Dress You Up" was part of the "Like A Virgin" album on Spotify, the extended of "Papa" on "True Blue", a remix of "Express Yourself" instead of the album version on Amazon...
It wasn't intentional. It was messy.

Polio is basically eradicated so it doesn't constantly mutate. Flu and COVID will never be eradicated and will constantly evolve which means boosters will always be needed.  That's the reason we don't take polio boosters.

Musically 4 Minutes is brilliant. I just kinda dislike the Justin bits even though I actually dig Justin.
Medellin was beaut but undercooked a tad.
Britney one is still one of the worst things she's done.
I like her Dua verse on Levitating a lot.
Sam Smith is mid and gimmicky
Popular are the definition of mid background coffee shop music.
Love Song should have been so much more for the star power
I do love Be Careful with Ricky Martin but again it's very unshowy.
Sexy Santana, Tokishca, Anita, Sickick, hard pass.

There were always rumours of a stadium tour to follow. Lemme hope this is it.
Mama better get that cash. A three month stadium tour wouldn’t be too taxing for her. She’s had a nice break now.

She only really did Europe & North America continent wise and the Rio gig.
Oceania , Asia & South America plus the odd Major City in Europe & USA.

She really want to keep the world sweet before the biopic too.
Of all her tours this would be the one that would have a second leg. Her first Greatest Hits show not touring the world?

I cannot help believing that that the precious CDr that Bertrand graciously shared (https://www.discogs.com/release/27048402-Madonna-Various-Remixes-CD-1) was one of many others... I fuzzily remember a photo with many cdrs like this one along time ago in an ebay auction, but the photo was taken from afar and I couldn't decypher the titles (I'm sure I have the photo downloaded, it's either in one of my HDD or lost in one of my too many dead HDDs)... if there is a number 1 why not more??... Wasn't it warner's plan to archive her back catalog. Since the remix edit of La Isla Bonita and the LP version (the US promo 7'') are included on this archive comp, why not the US promo 7'' of OYH (with LP version and Edit of Extended version retitled remix in the UK) on another one?? And why they haven't leaked... I don't have the answer...So many marvels have not leaked and we know some collectors have them... Maybe one day...

However, I really love the sound; to me, it stays completely faithful to the original master (even the volume is the same as the masters that were on HDtracks). I'd do anything to have OYH (Remix) with the same quality.

Yes, the vocals were very plain and nasal, don´t know why. The entire Madame X sounds like that, but on 2004 she could have sounded at the studio much much better.

About the CAC EP, something we talked about @club78boy:
I compared the Movie House Mix with the one from the Yellow Single CD, and they do match in speed, indicating that they come from the same master.
Now, because the one that I have is the @Aiwa08 shared, EQ'd to match the equalization of the Japanese boxset, I don't know if this mix from these 2 sources (the new digital EP vs the Yellow Single) is the exact same track, or a variation of the same master.
Couldn't compare the other tracks yet :|
But at least they didn't boost the audio levels! yay! (:
