Pootz333 got a reaction from valinecode in "Gaga's "Born This Way" vs Madonna's "Express Yourself"
I've been a lifelong M stan. And also worked with the Haus of Gaga around this time. I didn't hear the similarities until the mashup that came a few hours later from DJ Tripp.
IMO, the "BTW" album always sounded like LG doing a "Greatest Hits" album of 80's/90's tracks. Whitney. Pat Benatar. The Cure. Billy Idol. New Order. KMFDM. La Bouche. Etc. They are all there.
I still think if her response had been "Of course, it's inspired by Madonna and all the greats I grew up listening to..." instead of calling the comparison "retarded" and reaching for her Marilyn Momroe lighter....that might have helped.
In a perfect world, they would have collaborated when they did SNL.  There was a ton of overlap in the M/LG fanbases prior to the feud. For me, LG was doing a lot of things I wanted from M. This might be dramatic, but I believe this feud did the most damage to M and turned off a lot of young potential fans.
If I was LG, I would forever feel like the baddest bitch. My idol, the greatest living pop star, on tour, shading me every night? And then I show up to her party with my Oscar?!?! Mary.....

Let’s face it, I’m never in the mood for True Blue as an album, but they could’ve released every track as a single it may have all ended up on the charts somewhere.

With this video quality we could say that's a lost rare performance of that song on TV

I like both artists and I’m probably the only person who doesn’t think BTW sounds like Express Yourself - I don’t like the song BTW very much but I like the video a lot - you have to Gaga credit for making great videos up until 2012- I just think she lost her edge since the Artpop era and the songs and videos got more reductive

What's cool is: we're posting in a forum where we're allowed to match up these two artists and songs. I would get a warning or banned at other forums for doing this. Anyway, which song is your favorite from Lady Gaga's "Born The Way" or Madonna's "Express Yourself? What about the VIDEOS too?
I love both songs, but, I give the edge to Madonna. As for comparing the videos, Madonna wins for me on this too. So sultry, old Hollywood, beautiful, and so classic Madonna. Lady Gaga has always looked sickly and unhealthy to me in the "Born This Way" video, but, I do love all the dancing in it. It really takes you on a trip as well.
Extra FYI: if you haven't listened to @Fighter's 2020 mashup of these two songs, be sure to do so here. It's a hottie IMO!

"I'm Breathless", while not my favorite, becomes more and more interesting as the years go on. I can't really compare it to any other M release.  If anything, I think it deserved a better film to go with it! Love the visuals of DT, legendary cast, but that's it for me.
I think M's ballad version of DCFMA is the best version of that song. The way she starts off so delicate and how it builds. Everyone else just seems like they are yelling out of the gate when they sing it.  And "Eva's Final Broadcast"...whew. And I know it's not on the album, but the fact that she would give us one of her most camp masterpieces in the middle of being  "serious actress" with those Miami mixes...a legend.
They both were projects where it seems like she was so inspired and really pushed herself.

When I was a kid, I mainly listened to the singles and remixes. So this song has stayed fresh in a weird way. Considering where she was during this time in her career, it probably would have been another hit single. It feels like the most "rock" we got from her in the 80's on official releases. Also one of Rupaul's favorite M songs.

I woke up today in a mood that could be described as Britney waking up scene on Crossroads. Which means I got up my bed in a very good mood (that doesn't happen a lot), opened my iTunes and played Open Your Heart on the maximum my computer could handle! I brushed my teeth and made up my bed performing it LOL

Then White Heat came on next... WH is one of my favorite Madonna songs EVER! It's always been. I could be banned for this, but I enjoy White Heat 100% more than Papa Don't Preach! And listening to it on the mood I was this morning made me kinda angry... Damn, that's probably the biggest waste of Madonna's 80s discography! The track is perfect! That should've been a single and should've been remembered and performed even after the True Blue Era/Who's That Girl Tour. It would've fit perfectly on MDNA TOUR opening act, for example! Thank God we at got a performance on the WTGT!

Physical Attraction and Gambler are other huge wastes from Madonna's early years to me...

Anyway... I just needed to put it out of my chest.

I don't miss Madame X at all, I didn't get it at all. Still the only Madonna album I don't own.
I didn't get the Hard Candy era either with that terrible artwork and songs. It took me about 10 years to buy Hard Candy and that was only because it was the Japanese edition.

I just like to balance my extreme love for her with some light hearted shenanigans. Like how the BA dancers said she wore fake pearls and had plastic surgery. I enjoy clocking her for silly things.

so you think she just made up the whole story about being called Madame X back in her early days?  its possible, but i also think she probably didnt think very fondly of it until more recently. maybe she didnt really think about it until something reminded her?  i know there are plenty of things in my life that i never thought was very significant until years later.
