I just think it's the kind of music people wanted from her for years and she finally gave it to them. Yes, we always had her remixed for clubs. But those versions we loved were finally the album versions. Coming off American Life, which I loved then, I was actually surprised to see her do what the audience wanted. But still, there was something natural about this record. She was in her element. It didn't come off desperate.
The videos are awful. Aside from M practicing in the studio and walking down the street in "Hung Up". She looked great in "Sorry" but that was never 2nd single material to me. Should have been "Get Together" or "Jump". Those two songs are some of her best ever. I really believe if those had better videos and promotion they would have smashed.  The gayness from "Girl Gone Wild" was needed here.I
I always wonder how things would have gone if ABBA declined the sample.
Stuart's production on the record, and for the tour in particular will never, ever be overrated imo.

60's girl group pop meets the future. Leslie Gore, The Ronettes etc.
Seems like everyone still just wants Confessions 2 though....
Would love for her to do another musical. Challenge herself to be a bit submissive to a great director.
Also, it boggles my mind that she hasn't had a proper remix album in forever. If they chose great producers who respect her catalog (ie Monsieur Adi, Pet Shop Boys, Richard X etc), it would smash.

I think she’s only really concerned with  creating stuff that her kids and her boyfriend approve of. She pretends not to need approval but deep down she wants to appeal to a market many years younger than she is so her kids are a natural springboard of opinions for that.

If she's not listening to Rosie, she ain't listening to us.
But in the past, I would have said...
Pride: Do a medley of your greatest remixes. It's a room full of gays who kept your songs at No. 1 through remixes, even when the general public paid them dust. Give us a Peter Rauhofer tribute!
I can't believe she's never played Central Park. One free concert in the park with the hits and everyone would shut up about her ticket prices forever.
Eurovision: Was a fun set of hits too much to ask? I guess people think its aged well cuz of the gas masks.....
Enough with the hip hop. I don't need Confessions 2. Just make whatever inspires you with producers who aren't producing everyone.  Being late and rude doesn't make you a freedom fighter. Yes, bitch, you ARE MADONNA. There is and will only ever be one. Act like it.
Then, she'd read me, tears, we'd go into her closet, get in drag, drink lemon drops and eat hot tamales til dawn. Fin.

Many of the above actually. I'd tell her to make music her first professional priority again. If she's gonna say she's sleep deprived, at least let it be about her kids and her music. And the staff can get the kids ready and take them to school but no one can write her music. I'd tell her to make soundtrack songs that'll keep her relevant. Also to make records always thinking about the singles wisely. Or let others choose them for her. But most importantly, I'd like to tell her that the great records are inside her. She doesn't need an army of writers or producers or inspirations all over the globe.
Bonus: To make appearances women will want to imitate. She can be peculiar and mysterious like Tilda Swinton, she can be classy like Cate Blanchett, she can have abs again and show them off like Jennifer Lopez but please not a Pirate of the Carribbean meets Dita Von Teese at work.

I was thinking about the International whirlwind trip that we,ve been taken on over the years which has been a pleasure for me.... let's see how International this forum is...
    1. What Country / City do you originate / live / associate with ?
    2. Has Madonna been inspired in some way or drawn from your culture and if so what ?
    3. If not, what should / could she take ?

    For instance :

Punk scene - Drowned World Tour

I’d suggest that she take some time to curate a record that showcases her beautiful natural voice and range. Then I’d want to watch some of her live performances and talk about her vocal delivery and pitch.

-Hire a fucking community manager for your social media accounts. You are not doing it well, sweetie.
-Keep your fans happy. In the end, they're the ones who buy your records nowadays.
-Live in the fucking real world, 400€ for a concert ticket won't get your "real" fans to the concerts, only the rich ones.
-You're a living legend, care about your legacy.

I have never seen that last pic. I have seen other pics, but I haven't realized those were 2 outfits.
Since the Erotica era was inspired by the 60s, and the 70s a little bit, the Erotica look was inspired by Barbra Streisand.

A couple of things I've read as "confirmed" over the years but never really know for sure...
That The Pet Shop Boys were going to produce the album after Confessions/ what ended up being Hard Candy. And Warner formally withdrew the offer.
That she fought Warner for Impressive Instant to be a single.
That Benny Bennassi remixed the song "American Life".
That "Be Careful" was going to be a single and had remixes commissioned by Victor Calderone.
That she asked Armand Van Helden to remix "Bedtime Story" and he turned her down.

I thought we should have a topic for people to ask questions about Madonna's career and start a discussion. I looked on the forum but I couldn't find a similar topic. So ask way anything you have always been wondering about M!
    I'll start.
What's the story behind the American Life photoshoot by Craig McDean? Did they really photoshop all the guns?

Hey. You know what is missing (or I can't seem to find on the forum)? A comprehensive list of each eras unreleased or rumoured songs. I know there's a downloads section but I'm not talking about something that is downloadable. It would be great to have a really concise reference as a pinned post at the top of the page. It seems like a no brainer to me at least.
It should probably be compiled by a forum master or something so it will forever be editable as we discover new song info and stuff is slowly leaked over the years.
Does someone think this is possible. The only reason I mention it is because I was looking through that American Life era thread and found a couple of song titles I had no idea about.
There used to be  "file discussion" thread on the old version of the forum but I can't find it now.
Just for formats sake something like:

    AMERICAN LIFE ERA: 2002
    Album track alternate versions
"Hollywood" - (early version possible from MUSIC sessions) "Silly Thing" - (early version of Nothing Fails) "The Process" - (Dance version of X-Static Process said to be similar to Impressive Instant) "Mind Trap (per)" - (Early Version of Nobody Nows Me) "Round & Round" - (Early acoustic version of Easy Ride rumoured to have no string arrangement) "I've Got You Under My Skin" - (Early version of Love Profusion) "Love Will Change Us Forever" - (Early version of Intervention originally created in the MUSIC album sessions) Unreleased Tracks
"Set The Right" - (leaked) - Mirwais "The Game" - (leaked) Mirwais "Cool Song" - (leaked) Mirwais "My Ejector" - (It is said to sound like the final version of “American Life) "React" - Mirwais "Adverse Youth" - (said to be a ballad) "Can't You See My Mind" -  (ballad from Die Another Day soundtrack) "I Can't Place It' - (said to be a heavy guitar driven stop start track like Don't Tell Me. Possibly an early demo of Im So Stupid) Abandoned / Rumoured
"Alpha Beta Gamma" - (collaboration with French duo Air. Later released as an instrumental) Madonna also reportedly reached out to Dr Dre and Paul Oakenfold to work on the project. Goldfrapp were also invited to a screening of Swept Away at Madonnas house for a potential collaboration. George Michael was also reportedly seen visiting the studio Madonna was working in Aphex Twins were quoted as saying Madonna contacted them to work on music for her
Any one on coronavirus lockdown fancy having a bash at this as a lil project?

The absolute bottom of her albums pile. These new think pieces about the album are trite. If you want a good example of the sound of that time play FutureLove / SexSounds, Loose or The Sweet Escape.
I think I was more disappointed because I was genuinely gagged that she had enlisted Timbaland and Pharrell who were on fire at the time and the previous albums listed above were insanely good. Hard Candy was so dull. Her lifeless vocals on Miles Away, the Nichole Sherzingher phones in album tracks, the experimental car crashes of Incredible and Spanish Lesson. Recycled old lyrics on Voices, The dreadful music video and chart evaporation of Give It 2 Me which should have been one of her signature hits by now. The DREADFUL tour. Miles Away been shat out at the end and the debacle with the video. The horrific artwork, the new face, The weird Gaga segment on SNL.
Ugh like...why claw your way back to the top with Confessions after your career almost implodes with American Life and waste all that Glory on ....Hard Candy. Even the name is reductive. Possible the weirdest move she's made in her career.
What a curious set of disasters. 4 Minutes and the tour sales and revenue breaking records is the afterglow affect of Confessions era. Also see Born This Way sales after the Fame Monster.
Not only that she tortured us with the shit stain that is Candy Shop on successive tours to the point where it became her most performed song live in her career. A literal joke.

April 19 th? I'm sure it was released on 29 th!
I think the tour was amazing, and the album was funny and cohesive. The lack of good visuals, concept and videos were the worst part of all the project. Also I can't understand why the album was abandoned after Miles Away, Beat Goes On was a good option as a 4th single.
