I’m all for strict curfews, it’s respect for the fans whom travel home after and respectful for the workers who expect the shows to be over and the venue locked up by 12.

I actually like the fact she’s had a bit of a shove from them. For someone with a reputation of being super disciplined, her lateness this last few years is almost uncanny.
She looks lovely on those photos btw!

Too bad she didn't decide to post DCFMA instead.

Not at all. You’d just open doors at 1830. Excuse all you like, she could be on stage at 20:45 every night.

Glasgow was fabulous and she was in fine voice, she sounded awful in Manchester by comparison. Glasgow  and Manchester 2009 are my two fave experiences.

The fan reactions on Facebook kinda sum up the public perception and lack of tolerance to her pity party I am the censored artist victim persona she adopts when things go wrong (that she could have avoided).

At the end of the day, she and some fans can call the venue all they want, but start on timE and finish on time is very simple logic.

Notice how on the official video on Facebook of I Rise you can only hear her say ‘COME ON PEOPLE’, but can’t really hear her singing at all. Kinda sums up what Enrico said about most of the music genuinely coming from a tape.
The atmosphere on that video though, wonderful, takes me back to RHT Glasgow which was a terrific night!
and as for Censorship, she really needs to look up what censorship means. She wasn’t censored, the post itself makes it clear the true curfew should be 11pm... if 11.15 is supposed to be the absolute final cut off, the venue probably just got sick of her taking the stage time of the show to the edge every night.

i have a feeling tonight will be the shorter show, and I’m still scouting for a decent seat.

She mentioned Andrew Lloyd Webber at the first speech (the Mozart one), regarding a string quintet. After all, he is the owner of the Palladium.
Then when she sang the fado song, she said that when Gaspar challenged her to sing fado, she thought "I could make it, after all I sang DCFMA", the band played the first chord.
The rest is history. Instead of the beer bitch, she dedicated the song to ALW, saying she felt embarassed.
The best gift I could ever imagine! First time I hear it live. For those who don't know,  I played Magaldi in a regional production and saw the movie 4 times on the day it came out.

I think rules are made for everyone. If not, there will be caos and corruption. If u have to finish at 23.15 u have to finish at 23.15. Have all day to prepare to go in time. That's all.

"Oh, they don't like my speeches now do they? Scrap the show and let me tell them about how Martha Graham gave me the name Madame X. And let's sell one pair of my shoes so Mercy can have new boas during Crave in the show."

    "You cut Crave already though."

"Oh I did? Well, no boas! Tell Mercy to finish the remaster of Like a Prayer on Napster cause the fans are waiting. Rip one of the remixes off YouTube as a bonus too! Ask Aldo for a new cover and make it limited to ten worldwide!"

Oh my god the timing of this post, lol.

Someone competent please take over her social media accounts, please dear god i beg of you. Didn't we suffer enough when we had to endure her fever dream-esque postings during the Rebel Heart era?

And I absolutely agree with @Enricoabout the  lost opportunity in terms of musical possibilities this record and theatre experience is representing for some of us. The only tracks I use to listen from the show are Human Nature (excellent arrangement, my ideal kind of music), Batuka (thrilling energy) and Welcome to my fado club/Sodade (the real gift from this show musically imo).
Said that, I'm waiting, dieing to be honest, to finally see the show in dvd-bluray formats,, having unfortunately lost my chance in Lisbon, due to a last minutes cancellation.

I must admit, there is no better Madonna experience than watching the WTGT with virtual surround on a 5.1 system and playing it loudly. Peak Madonna right there.

alternatively the deal 5.1 mix of GS is superb, I just find most of the concert excruciatingly boring besides JML.

That’s exactly how I feel - I’ve always wondered why she bothers to have back up singers and “ musicians “ if all she is going to do is use backing tracks for the majority of the show ? I miss the “ live “ sound of her 80s and 90s shows and thought being in a theatre she would go back to it ? ?

Agreed, but then again it’s not a physical performance and of course there’s digital assistance.

But you can get that kind of full feel with just four players, the players could be digitally double tracked while playing level, given a chorus effect, padded out with reverb... instead they’re apparently playing to a 22yo studio recording... that’s the shame here. So much live potential of musicians that are literally being limited by a musical direction who wouldn’t know a decent arrangement if it was dangled in front of his face.
    This.
    all of this.
    i so love your posts.
one thing we have in common Enrico is a love of real live music.

I am sorry if you find the conversation boring, but I hope you won't dare to compare the great live musical arrangements of WTGT and GS with the fake sounds we have been hearing in the past tours. Those shows prove that pop can also be of great musical quality, and I'm not talking about M's vocal performance. And yes, it's a genuine love for live music that makes me say this. With the MX theatre experience and the great musicians involved in this tour, many of us - I can mention at least @stefoor @Belor @mirtillohere - were hoping to get that live sound back, but unfortunately we didn't. When I listen to the MXT recordings, I don't have the impression that the musicians are playing live, and I am curious to know what is happening technically. That's all.

    You're so naive...
Her voice is live melted into pre recorded vocals much louder than her voice...
What you call pop music is only reduced to the amount of some lazy singers... 90% of the concert I go to are 100% live pop music with real musicians... And the power of live music is incredibly higher than pre recording shits...
Oh the time of the Girlie show tour... Very few pre recorded song, all musicians live... And the Drowned world tour... Only one single song pre recorded : Sky fits heaven. ALL OTHERS SONGS were totally live. Madonna's real voice directly... I'm sad not to get this feeling anymore. Especially in a theatre where you ear everything. I felt fucked up by Madonna... She thinks she can do everything, starting late, cancels songs of her shows, asking huge amounts of money for what she calls "charity" but it's sad.
And years after years her success is weaker than ever. I don't care about her age. She still can be awesome. Madame X is an excellent album. Better than the shits she produced between 2008 and 2015 (I save many songs of course but let's face it, they were her worsts albums... Especially MDNA). Then she did Madame X which was like the following good album she should have done after Confessions. Still on top of quality.
Just sad she didn't succeed the theater concert for me... Tickets too expensive, charity between very rich people and reject the "too poor" people, pre recording of music and vocals instead of having a totally live music (of course she can have pre recorded effects and samples... of course)...

She is singing MOST of the time, but that doesn’t mean she’s clearly audible in the mix. She isn’t audibly live on most performances of Medellin for example. Most of I Rise chorus for example is pure tape.

It’s just that with this tour there’s the added aspect of real time pitch correction (both robotic and natural sounding) to contend with as well as prerecorded vocals.

some people will love this topic, some will hate it, it’s no problem regardless, and no reason not to discuss it...

If you think this is annoying, try a Celine Dion forum for topics about playback, it’s literally a daily occurrence.

edit- I was Dolly in 2011 and she mimed the ENTIRE show. Great show mind, lovely fun experience but the entire show was taped.

Kylie Minogue - totally live start to finish. Occasional backing track in choruses but always way quieter than her lead, strong live vocal. Hate to say it but yes, some artists do indeed sing a totally live show.
