I actually think the lions share of the discourse comes from women possibly. I would never encourage clicks on anything from the Daily Mail ( I know) but I did read Sarah Vines ( I know) column online somewhere because it made front page news here. I was expecting a diabolic rant of hate and bile....but most of the article is full of high praise for Madonna, her achievements and her forward thinking boundary breaking career. Cosmetic surgery is even given the thumbs up in some instances.
I can't speak for women but from the outside there seems to be a sense that maybe women of Madonnas age or he early fan base feel a sense of betrayal. No other woman came through for them like Madonna had before and in some ways since. She kind of broke the glass ceiling and stuck two fingers up to the patriarchy and what old society expected of her, both men and women and the spectrum between and beyond. She set a new template for how women could act, be, express themselves which often defied traditional beauty standards. She was chubby, unshaved, had a mole, exposed her flesh with her own agency, played with gender roles, bisexuality and felt like the future and the right side of history.
"She is wearing a mask of societies expectations - and it doesn't suit her."
"To see her re-defining herself along such limited and limiting lines, succumbing to the pressure to deny the passage of time and adhering to unrealistic beauty standards goes against everything this icon has ever stood for: freedom, defiance, individuality."
When Madonna has been the stick an entire generation (maybe two) have measured themselves by I think it's pretty much priced in that her image and choices in her later years will evoke a response particularly from women. Perhaps these women are saying to themselves  "what does that mean for the rest of us and our place in society?". Madonna has taught them, and most of us, how to question our place in society and challenge societal norms.
Throughout most of her interviews she has often responded with "Why not?" to interviewers questions, statements and commentaries on her personal life and her work. She seldom gives definitive answers but leaves the interviewer and audience questioning themselves...... so people did and people will continue to do so.
The NYT article is an interesting take but I really don't think Madonna would really go down the Orlan Saint- Etienne route. It's most likely vanity. I will make one observation in regards to that article though. I do think the days of surgery that looks like you haven't had surgery are not an era we are currently living though. We are most definitely in an era of people having procedures that want people to know they've had work done.
I fully respect people who fight the good fight and will always champion the libertarian agenda. However I do think some balance is needed ...and I'm not talking about her ass. Which I think we can all agree is ( regardless of personal choice), a curious aesthetic decision, but maybe even that tells us something and reinforced my previous point. I'd actually really love her to address it and talk about it, (of course she wont), but I'd be genuinely interested to hear her take on things. She's been so open about pretty much everything in the past, this last chapter seems incredibly shrouded almost like the elephant in the room that people can't see past. but like she said she's not gonna start now.
I also think Sarah Vines statement in bold above is slightly contradictory in nature. Madonna 4.0 is obviously an uncomfortable incarnation for some but I understand we must learn to accept it even if we still have questions about it. There's no doubt the debate is fascinating. I defo preferred it when the conversation was about her work and not her "work" ....yet here I am.
This will be my closing statement on the subject.

I mean. I’m honestly devastated with her own personally empowered choices to her face and that ass since Rebel Heart and I think it’s gotten to the point where it undermines her. We’re at pretty severe levels now and I find it uncomfortable to watch cause I love her so much. It’s .. a lot. We all know it and it’s her choice etc I just find it concerning so it seems so odd when others don’t see a problem to me. Maybe it’s a cultural thing I don’t know. Our UK older celebrities don’t really go to these extremes.
… I don’t like to talk about it with friends or family so I’d rather discuss with you lot. Sorry if that pisses people off. I possibly ( naively),  consider this a safe space for all things Madonna cause anyone outside the forums reactions to her are … not good and it’s been like that for a few years
    but….having said that
the comments on Twitter and even on the front pages of the news are abhorrent.
People posting pictures of their moms in their sixties and then of Madonna. There’s no need for that.

    Are you serious? Lol.
She came on consistently at 8:30, almost on the dot, for most of the Confessions shows. You think the projector and blank stairs on Madame X had such extreme production issues each night that starting the show past midnight was a justifiable professional response? And you think that these said production and wardrobe issues are so regular that they wouldn't adjust the setup and soundcheck schedule accordingly to ensure proper checks were performed earlier in the day? No, if Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, the Rolling Stones, U2, etc etc etc. can come out before 11 PM with the productions they offer, then Madonna can do the same.
All of these anecdotes from posters in this thread about "other artists starting just as late" are laughable -- Name ONE concert you've been to by a major artist that started past 10:30 PM. The absolute extreme I've experienced in the 100+ concerts I've been to was Mariah Carey starting at almost 10 PM, and the audience was *not* happy, myself included.
Stop finding excuses for her. She's proven that she can come out on time if she wants to. She just doesn't. It's really not complicated.
We as fans know it likely won't change. We as fans also know that by and large, a lot of her audience may be seeing her for the first time and be upset by her lack of respect for them and their time. They will complain. We will tell them she's known for this. They will continue to complain. They have extremely reasonable reasons for doing so. They may be dependent on public transportation that will shut down. They may have early meetings in the morning and were planning to be home by midnight, as is normal for most concerts. They may have babysitters that can't stay until 3-4 AM. It won't change what Madonna does, and she'll continue to do what she feels like.
Let's accept it and move on.

Defending her lateness by saying "oh everyone else is too" as if that somehow makes it okay? It isn't just a Madonna problem, no, but that doesn't mean it's not still a problem of Madonna. Yes, 30-40 minutes late is to be expected with complex live shows, that's just how it is. 1.5-2 hours is not acceptable.

I'm a long time Madonna fan. I know she comes on late. I accept it as a fan and move on.
However - As someone who works in the touring entertainment field,  I have a behind-the-scenes insight that most don't. What really sucks is how this affects the blue-collar stagehands. They are compromised of a mostly local, union crew. They aren't traveling with her. They are just working a job locally. When she's being a diva and not coming on stage on time, they are forced to work longer hours than expected away from their families (though with double pay) to accommodate her being a brat and doing what she wants. That's disrespectful to the local stagehands who just want to do their job and go home.
And NO - artists coming on hours late is not common place. Maybe some big name, unstoppable divas do it on occasion because they can (Beyonce, Prince, Mariah, etc.). But most artists can't and don't get away with doing it regularly. The fines for adding overtime pay to stagehands/ushers/security would bankrupt them and piss off their promoters. It eats into their profit.
Quit excusing this bad behavior just because she can get away with it.
I love her. I don't love this behavior.

A ticket for the Girlie Show at Wembley was £35.
For context the price of the Erotica CD in 1992 was £13.99 so tickets for her tour were about 2.5 times the price of the album the tour was promoting. This is at Peak Madonna notoriety.
Compare a CD to the price of her concert ticket now.
What 18-24 yr old that may take an interest in her would be able to afford one of her shows? I cant and I'm nearly 50 and in a good job.

We won't know until the tour starts but keeping an eye out on reports from the first shows will give some indication of how it's going to go.
And no, it's not a crazy question as every tour there are inevitably a bunch of casuals around me who are actually shocked at how late it ends up being and ask for and do get refunds, so for the actual general public, she does need to get her act together.  The GP isn't "overlooking and accepting" her lateness so much as they probably just have no clue if they don't read Ticketmaster reviews and haven't been to her shows in years.  It's good to be prepared.

As someone else mentioned earlier, I would love for Stuart Price to get back on board for this tour. He is an excellent producer and just gets her back catalogue.
Imagine a full tour of reworks like he did for Everybody & Erotica/You Thrill Me? It would end me.

Sadly, I think Kevin Antunes is basically confirmed as he directed both the Pride Show and the Maluma appearance. What does he even do, source the original album instrumental and steal a few mash-ups off Soundcloud? It's so sad as Stuart just totally got her music, he was able to do that magic of updating stuff without taking away the essence....I dunno I can't describe it, but he was just a freakin' genius!!

Don't say this name near me... This f****r is getting paid to get the audio files compressed, bass boosted and really loud and gets to be credited as a remaster. I bet he never went near to the original tapes.
