People are wrongly assuming that laserdisc was a new format in 1990, it wasn't. It was started in 1978 and was successful throughout the 80's. It didn't decline until the mid nineties with DVD arriving.
Pioneer stepped in to sponsor the tour when Pepsi pulled out which is why they tied it to their flagship product format, although they did release the japanese edition on vhs too.

at this point she should start looking at a complete singles/promo singles/club single collection. a definitive radio edits, 7" version collection of each release including songs limited to smaller markets.
 

This is a reconstruction of the demo version of Into the Groove played during the end credits of Desperately Seeking Susan, created from the multitrack. I spent a lot of time making it match as closely as possible to create an HQ version of the demo. It uses the original bass and drum sounds and none of the instruments which were changed or added to the released mix or the Shep Pettibone mix.
4/8/22 UPDATE: This is a newly revised 2022 version which is closer to the sound of the demo version. This is my 3rd version and I think the final and best.

It says nothing about the region, as u see, but IT'S REGION FREE. It plays perfectly on my bd player, and it only plays B or region free. So this one is region free for sure. I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!
 
TAKE A BOW is out of this world. The image quality is a million times better and clearer than the showtime version. IT'S FUCKING AMAZING. And as i just said, TAB made me cry. SO BEAUTIFUL.

Well... Technically what came in 1978 was "Video Disc" - optical discs with video on them.
 
Never took off - was relaunched later in the 80s as "LaserDisc (LD)" (digital discs with longer recording capacity) - still never took off.
 
Pioneer were madly pushing Laser Disc at the end of the 80s - and it was part of this big push that they sponsored the BA tour in 1990 with a promise to "exclusively" release the tour on Laserdisc in 1991.
 
Laserdisc never broke into the mainstream. It was always a "niche" product. I had a player - I bought it in 1991 specifically 'cos of the BA tour release! Even back then pretty much no-one except enthusiasts, knew about Laserdisc - and aside from small sections in very large branches of HMV or Virgin - you couldn't buy the discs on the UK high street.
 
As for Pioneer's hold over the release - I think that's long gone. ICON at the time said the Pioneer exclusive rights lasted only a year or two I think. 

For me it was the Glasgow show of Rebel Heart. Will never forget holiday with the lights up, no speakers and the pink Santa Hat. Made it extra special, and worth the wait.

Great idea, this should be a wiki page. Surprisingly small list really for such a long career. Why not include the promo shows for Music (roseland and brixton), American Life (on stage and on the record), Confessions (koko, GAY, Coachella), Hard Candy (Radio 1 Big Weekend, Roseland). Most were broadcast in some way
