FINALLY!! It's one of my most favorite albums of hers! And I would kill to hear songs from BS live!
The only thing I'd change in setlist is Rescue Me. I would use Titanic Mix and put it in the beginning of some Act. Just imagine that massive bass line in a packed arena or stadium, it'd sound awesome

NothingReallyMatters reacted to Enrico in Is Madonna Just Hype?
How old is your friend?
There was a moment when EVERYBODY loved Madonna. Especially 1985-1991.
Things have changed mainly for three reasons:
1) Her total disinterest towards her legacy, to prove she is not a thing from the past. And her team didn't help.
2) She became a "gay" thing so her fan base is now more limited, in a way.
3) Age. Her type of music and shows have always appealed to young audiences, but obviously young audiences look for young stars. She got lost in this. Madame X album, especially the first tracks, shows how they tried to make her sound young, with a contemporary trap and reggaeton sound. She doesn't have the musical strenght of Paul McCartney or Elton John (who are not successful on the charts anymore either), and didn't focus on music even in this tour when she had the opportunity: and ended up with knee and hip injury.
-
NothingReallyMatters reacted to Tiago Lisboa Rodrigues in Is Madonna Just Hype?
How can you be overrated when you're the industry's standard and the best selling and most successful woman in said industry?
Her YouTube views suck but all that is due to the fact Madonna never cared about her legacy...and yes...that's hurting her in the long run.
-
NothingReallyMatters reacted to Voguerista in Is Madonna Just Hype?
Since the beginning, I've never understood why so many people hate so much on Madonna and won't give her the legendary credit she deserves? Sure, you don't have to like her or her music, but, the "legend" status is in all of her long time fans, hits, and numbers.
-
NothingReallyMatters reacted to VogueMusic in Is Madonna Just Hype?
You don't become the most successful female artist in the history of popular music by hype alone. Period.
-
NothingReallyMatters reacted to somethingscomingover in Is Madonna Just Hype?
Yes! Exactly. I find myself saying that all the time when people talk about Madonna retiring.
I think that she's not all hype. Our forum would not exist if there were not a lot of people from so many different places who are fans of hers. The general public seems to dislike Madonna. At this point, I don't think there's anything any of us can do to change their minds.
And, they say that hype stuff about a lot of legendary artists. You're always going to have critics.
-
NothingReallyMatters reacted to baymad4her in Is Madonna Just Hype?
I clearly don't think this at all as I'm a huge Madonna fan and always will be, but, I ask this as I had a big argument with a friend of mine who said Madonna was overrated.
She said, if Madonna is so great, why hasn't she had a million seller in the UK and why are her YouTube views so low and why can't she have a hit single anymore, then she mentioned Madonna's age, saying she should retire, then I said, it's interesting I never hear people saying Paul McCartney or Elton John need to retire. She said loads of other stuff but you get what I'm saying.
Why does Madonna get so much hate her way and why do people say she's all hype?

NothingReallyMatters reacted to stefo in EROTICA is underrated
Erotica is her second best work in my personal chart. I also think it's a little underrated, especially for the strong musical and thematic identity and the originality it will always represent. It was indicated as one of the best experimental albums of the 90s by Rolling Stone though, a highly deseved recognition, and it's adored by many of her fans. Let me express my deep love in a few lines (I don't expect many of you will really read as they came out not that few, sorry)
She was brave and creative, pushing that hard on the house vibe and fusioning the hipo hop sound with jazzy arrangements (Where Life Begins, Waiting, Secret Garden) and esthetically the track Erotica is an absolute masterpiece imo, with the pattern of background sounds, male voices, the cold "metallic" mood, with deeply dark and dramatic peaks in the sinth strings spreads of the second half.
Her ability to create a homogeneous sound, passing through different genres is really remarkable, from ragge (Why's it so hard) to 70s discomusic (Deeper and Deeper) to a jazz-blues old standard like Fever. In no other era, except Ray of Light, she was able to get that level (think about Music, a good album, various but not that cohesive, or Hard Candy, cohesive but not genre various).
Lyrically it really explored the sexual issue 100%. Sex is told as pleasure (Erotica, Fever, Where life begins), loneliness (Bad Girl), cause of discrimination (Why's it so hard, In this life), obsession (Waiting), maybe the only part she didn't explicitly focus on was the connection between the sexual act and love, taking love as a matter of his own (Rain, one of my favourite ballads, Words, Deeper and Deeper).
And then we have the visual aspect, one of the strongest and most interesting of her career, from the '20s-'30s Dietrich ispiration to the graphic concept, a rare example of appropriate and elegant rough-manufactured effect, too often used to create an intriguing mood around musical projects wich are unconnected with it (to stay in M's carrer I think "American Life" is a good example, excellent concept, good album, but just Die Another Day and American Life really fit the graphic hint for me).
And then her voice, her subtle, sinuous voice...
Erotica is definitely one of the reasons I am here. Long live Queen Dita
-
NothingReallyMatters reacted to LivingForLove94 in EROTICA is underrated
Erotica is one of her best albums and the era itself is a career and culture defining moment.
An amazing era lyrically, musically, visually and vocally (she was on fire, some of the best vocals of her career).
Erotica was more than music, it was a concept, a project, you had an album, a book, a movie, a tour, an alter ego. Simply groundbreaking, she made history.
As for the albums you mentioned, It is absolutely on the same level as LAP and ROL while COADF, on the other hand, gets way too much credit, the credit You Can Dance deserves.
-
NothingReallyMatters reacted to stormbringer in EROTICA is underrated
I wish she'd done more tracks with Andre. If I'm honest half the album I never to listen to anymore. I love Erotica, Fever, Where Life Begins, Bad Girl, Waiting, Rain and Secret Garden; the other tracks I skip.
-
NothingReallyMatters reacted to anel_ in EROTICA is underrated
Us fans know that Erotica is one of Madonna's most compelling work of art. It stands the test of time, broke so many boundaries and the songs are incredile
However this album unfortunately isn't critically acclaimed the way LAP, ROL and COADF are. Imo Erotica arguably in some way could be her best album. It's fantastic from start to finish. She only worked consistently with 2 producers on it Andre Betts and Shep Pettibone (being a co producer herself) wrote the songs along with Shep and Andre, she also managed to keep a continuing narrative story going through the album, especially with waiting/thief of hearts/words (Madonna's best song trilogy)
I understand that back in 1992 realeaisng an album like Erotica was dangerous and risky as fuck BUT in 2018 it isn't. This album should be revalued (more than what it already has been in the last few years). Rolling Stones still haven't placed it in the 500 greatest albums of all time and it absolutely deserves a spot in that list. Not just Rolling Stone magazine but Im using it as a primary example
Who agrees and disagrees?
